Tim Kring quits Heroes?
Heresay or truth?

One of the comments on a blog (Artful Writer.com - scroll down to comment no:68) that is 'covering' the WGA Strike reads:

On another front, I have been advised by a source on Heroes that Tim Kring has quit the series. Apparently the network was making him remove storylines that could not be wrapped up in the existing episodes that are now being finished. This caused wholesale rewrites of three episodes over the past week and weekend.

And on the lot where Heroes shoots, there was an incident at the picket line where a PA working on another show ran over the foot of one of the picketers.

Fandom, my heart is breaking for writers I don't know (& who I'll probably never meet) who are striking because they have NO CHOICE, because they are being shafted on internet/streaming residuals by the AMPTP- who want to give them no money at all for internet work yup they want to claim that streaming episodes are promotional and thus the writers should get ZERO royalties - and worse I'm not sure they know we give a damn.

Wait -- Tim Kring quit? How reliable is this source?

No idea about reliability - though most of what was discussed on that blog about the strike was pretty spot on. It's an industry blog. It's heresay... from the industry.

Thank you :D

Hi...

It is edited into the post originally - the words 'a blog' are a link but will bold and flag that up.

Kring... quit? I'm so confused, how can he quit the show he created right in the middle of it?

It's happened before (Aaron Sorkin, West Wing, that woman who did Gilmore GIrls), but I don't know how reliable this source is. It seems pretty abrupt, if it's true.

This is like N.C.I.S.
The creator quit that show as well after he didn't like how the network was treating the show.

That's not what I heard. I heard his entire cast/crew revolted over his high-handed and erratic treatment and he left to keep the show going (and keep his residuals...)

idk if this is a good thing or a bad thing
Kring was acting pretty high and mighty with his "we need to teach viewers how to watch our show" stuff which really turned me off but man.

I'm to the point where I just don't care anymore and anything that can save this sinking ship, even if it means Kring leaving, is fine with me.

ha. I keep thinking that if only Ron D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) had time he should teach Kring how to actually write for a large cast while also giving each and every character an actual interesting storyline and depth.

Gah, so close.

W-O-W. This whole thing is so ~*~dramatic~*~.

But honestly, I think it would kinda be okay if he did quit...his latest statements were really lame and the season is kind of sucking, maybe some fresh blood wouldn't be the worst thing.

ia

Kring is striking me as someone that doesn't want to listen to new ideas which is what, in my opinion, this show needs right now.

HOLY CRAP.

But still as long as Heroes has a fighting chance to come back for Season Three, I'm not sure I am quite as disturbed by this as I should be. But I don't know what that means for the fate of the rest of Heroes...

I can't decide whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. I mean, NCIS is better this season after DPB left the show, so show creators quitting a show isn't a death sentence.
I will wait for confirmation.

I have to agree with [info]saint_renegade Kring has, of late, been quite conceited and arrogant in his comments regarding the disappointment of the season. I can't say that I don't completely disregard this news, as the current conditions could very well cause these repercussions but I'm pretty sure we would have known something about it before the strike if he truly was going to leave. (even though, the mounting problems could cause a quick pull-out)

Maybe this will jolt the season back on track and lets just hope that it isn't true.

Could it be (and feel free to correct me here) that this is merely confusion on the part of that blogger? Maybe he's striking along with everyone else, and it's been exaggerated. A girl can hope, right?

But to play Devil's Advocate--how much of the problems with Heroes in both S1 and S2 are Kring's fault? The slow pacing, the ponderous narration, the anticlimactic resolutions?

Some ideas are bigger than their creators. If Kring left, this might open up an opportunity to get a showrunner who really understands the concept and how to make it work.
