Hey I'm a new member and first time Heroes viewer. Haven't seen season two. LOL :)


So I must admit I'm glad that I finally sat down and watched the first season of Heroes. I came into this show with little to no expectations. I knew that many of my friends enjoyed the series, but the limited amount of the show I had caught didn't capture my imagination. I found it a blatant rip-off of every Sci-Fi show and comic book from the last century and I wasn't all that intrigued by the actors or the writers. How do I feel about it now? I LOVE IT! It's never going to the Buffyverse, nothing will ever be Buffy, not even Lost which really has come very, very close. With that said, I am left wondering what story they still have to tell. It's going to get very tiring the further adventures of Peter and Hiro. But I did think that about Buffy at first too. And I miss Isaac. Why did I get attached to a character I knew was going to die? Like I said, his name even gave it away.

Peter is probably one of the most amazing characters written for TV in a long time probably because he isn't really all that amazing. You can tell the writers do not spend a lot of time writing his dialogue, they give him a very normal life, almost boring reactions to situations and yet, he is not boring. It's not even that his power is so magnificent. It's not even unique, Sylar has the same (if not more powers) than Peter. Why do we love Peter so much? We love him because he is one of the few real "people" on TV. I feel as though this man could be my boyfriend, brother, husband, or friend. The same could be said for characters such as Matt Parkman. The downside for such normal characters is perhaps a lack of witty dialogue but they make up for it with Hiro and Ando so it all works out in the end.

I had this theory that Sylar was going to kill Peter in order to save the "Millions" people. Even though it does seem a bit Arthurianian, I would have liked to see that. There is some good left in Sylar somewhere. He does have a conscience. But it worked out better for Nathan to die than to be elected to an office that didn't belong to him. I just enjoyed the Claire/Nathan/Peter family dynamic and would have loved to see that developed more. I would have also liked to see how it affected her relationship with her “adopted” father.

I'm extremely nervous for Peter though. I have this vision of them going to this dark Willow place with him and it's scaring me. I just hope I'm wrong.


I'm posting this mostly because I thought you guys would enjoy reading a first time viewers thoughts on the series. Comments are encouraged. Thanks!

On a completely unrelated note...I miss Zach. LOL I really liked his character.
