Countdown, by [info]amazingly_me
Title: Countdown
Rating: PG? Slight language, mention of violence (completely non-graphic).
Spoilers/Warnings: Slight language, completely non-graphic mention of violence. ;] Spoilers through Powerless (that was this season's finale, right?) plus speculation for the third season. But it's pure guesswork, so.
Challenge: Save The Heroes
Summary: Conversing with Bob was a kind of art -- if you didn't sound casually interested, he'd accuse you of being emotionally involved. There is a moment in which they look at each other, and then Bob shakes his head. Bennett readjusts to life with the Company.
Notes: I didn't see that the amnesty challenge had been closed, so I brushed the dust off of this and finished it. :]

I don't remember who first advanced a couple of the theories I threw in here, just that I've seen them around, and I like them a lot. Oh fannish geniuses of the internets, you never cease to amaze. ;]

Five hours and counting. )

The Amnesty Challenge went on a bit longer than originally intended, but it will be ending this Wednesday. If you have any last minute entries, post them before then!

Aspirations - Matt/Mohinder & Molly, PG, 389 words, early second season spoilers

Some people were born to be heroes... Molly slips into her cardboard wings, and hopes she can live up to expectations...

Title: Get Dressed Let's Go
Author: Rainne
Characters: Sylar, Mohinder, semi-OFC, a mention of Maury
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 1,482
Disclaimer: *checks pockets* Heroes, Heroes... Nope, afraid not. *sighs*
A/N: I never thought I would actually write this- it was just a silly idea The Fratellis' "Creeping Up the Backstairs" kept giving me every time I heard it. For the Lyrics challenge.
Summary: Pre-slash high school!AU, though pretty much without the high school. OOC!Sylar, since he's not a murdering sociopath yet. Anyway, goodie two shoes Mohinder meets bad boy Gabriel.

You're going to make a mother's nightmare out of me, aren't you? )

The Bad Part - Matt/Mohinder, U, 360 words, early first season spoilers

Flowers? A little kitten? What next! Matt thinks he can buy his way out of things with goodies again...

28 February 2008 @ 02:19 pm
This week's challenge is What Next?

This could include:
  • What might happen in the next season? You can write a scene from the possible season 3, or a scene from the season 3 you'd like to see happen.

  • What happened right after the season two finale?

  • Any broader implications of "what next?", such as what will the Heroes do once they've been revealed? Or what will a specific character do once they'd achieved a certain goal (for example, what might Mohinder dedicate his research to once he's found the cure to the virus? Etc.).

The prompt is pretty loose, so play with it as you will. You have a week to respond. Any questions, feel free to comment to this post or contact me via PM, and suggestions for future challenges are welcome at any time.

21 February 2008 @ 03:25 am
This week's challenge is the word regrets.

re·gret /rɪˈgrɛt/ [ri-gret] verb, -gret·ted, -gret·ting, noun
–verb (used with object)

1. to feel sorrow or remorse for (an act, fault, disappointment, etc.): He no sooner spoke than he regretted it.
2. to think of with a sense of loss: to regret one's vanished youth.

More definitions, origin, etc. )

As always, feel free to use the challenge word as you see fit--within the fic, as a thematic inspiration, etc.

You have a week to respond. Any questions, feel free to comment to this post or contact me via PM, and suggestions for future challenges are welcome at any time.

This week the challenge is an image. See it here:

[ Double Helix DNA strand. ]

You have a week to respond, and may use the prompt however you see fit—literally, figuratively, metaphorically. Your creativity is the only limit. Any questions, feel free to comment to this post or contact me via PM, and suggestions for future challenges are welcome at any time.

Hello all! I'm [info]trascendenza, and I'll be helping out with posting the challenges.

This community will be on a weekly challenge posting schedule; challenge will be posted once a week (probably Wednesdays/early Thursdays) and you will have one week to respond to the challenge.

This week, I've decided to go a grab bag of prompts. You are welcome to respond to any of the prompts singly, or you can mix and match, or you can respond to them all individually, if you're ambitious! Basically, any kind of response that is posted in response to one (or more) of these prompts is acceptable. Just do remember that we encourage stories between 100 and 2,000 words as ideal, with more emphasis on the shorter end of the spectrum.

*

Prompt #1, Word Prompt: [ADAPTATION]:
A change in structure, function, or behavior by which a species or individual improves its chance of survival in a specific environment. Adaptations develop as the result of natural selection operating on random genetic variations that are capable of being passed from one generation to the next. Variations that prove advantageous will tend to spread throughout the population.

Prompt #2: Photograph.

Prompt #3: Lyrics.
Surrender, you've got to give up your need.
Surrender, you've got to give it to me.
The republic of complicity,
So electric--with electricity.

- Cruising by Erase Errata (full lyrics | song file)

*

Next week we'll probably be back to one challenge (unless people prefer this format?). I'm interested in seeing what sort of prompts you all prefer, so this is sort of a testing of the waters. Any questions, feel free to comment to this post, and of course to comment with any challenge suggestions!

Whoops.

In the craziness of the year, the strike, other fic challenges, etc. we completely forgot about Flashfic.

Flashfic's a wonderful idea, and a lot of fun, if there's an active and vibrant Flashficcer community. So far, Heroes hasn't had that.

Some of that's our fault, for not being more on top of this and more active ourselves. Some it's just that the show's so broad spectrum, it's hard to get the kind of support for activities like Flashfic that you'd get when there's a more dominant ship in a fandom.

Still, we're sorry, for forgetting and for not being better cheerleaders for this. We'd like to do more with this comm, but we're not sure if you're interested. If you'll participate - not just as readers, but as writers.

We're considering doing Flashfic assignments during the hiatus to keep things vibrant while we wait for a (hopefully stronger) new series of episodes, but it won't work if you don't want to write it.

Are you still interested? What sort of challenges would spur your imagination? Do you have a brilliant and burning passion for flashfic and want to help mod the community?

Talk to us. We're listening.

Allie, for Linaerys and Katarin

All around the world, people crumble for them. Everywhere they go people stop and they scream! (I can haz bastardizations of songs. My bastardizations, let me show you them!)

Whether it's the Heroes World Tour or my own personal sojourns, one thing seems clear: Heroes is the next big pop culture thang. When I went to buy an HD DVD player, the sales people asked me if I'd seen Heroes yet. Not since the first Harry Potter books have this many people I didn't know liked something that I do, ALL AROUND THE WORLD. And there is nothing like that.

So this week's challenge is dedicated to our beautiful shiny show with the best cast ever. RPF, canon, AU, you name it - make our Heroes or our cast travel, write about Papa Suresh's map if you wanna, a stop on the World Tour, something inspired by a World Tour picture (and you can cross-post to the World Tour RPF challenge!) whatever "around the world" makes you think of.

Remember, flashfic is supposed to be fun. One shots, short, no stress no pressure. It's just a fun way to make more Heroes fic! Of course, you can write as long as you want, but there's no need. Have a blast.

Ready, set, flashfic!

The "Going to the Chapel" challenge is now closed (*koff* a long time later, sorry gang!)

We had two stories:

Part of the job (Niki, Tina, PG) by [info]rainne

Thanks, y'all!

New challenge in a few minutes.

Title: Part of the Job
Author: Rainne
Characters: Niki, Tina
Rating: PG-13 for an itty bitty curse word
Word Count: 390
Disclaimer: Heroes is Tim Kring's sandbox, not mine.
A/N: It was harder to come up with something for this prompt than I thought, maybe that's why it's my shortest flashfic yet.
Summary: Minutes before her wedding, Niki has a problem.

Everything's a go. )

01 August 2007 @ 03:26 pm
Characters: Peter/Claude
Rating: PG-13 for my usual vague slash
Word count: 800
Summary: see below.
A/N: Written in 90 minutes to kill two birds with one stone: the [info]heroes_flashfic Wedding challenge, and the [info]peterandclaude Shave the beard, save the world challenge. Expect unbridled (as opposed to unbridal-ed) sentimentality, and smut.

When he thinks about what 'forever' means, he's surprised that it's not actually frightening. )

Taking a little break from cliches this week for a request from [info]mandysbitch: Weddings!

Are they forced to get married, simply at a wedding, planning a wedding, hoping for a wedding or wishing they were anywhere else?

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to write a flash fic that has something to do with weddings. You can be literal, or figurative, after all, a wedding is bringing two things together, possibly not even people. Use your imagination, and don't forget something old, something new, something borrowed and somthing blue!

Ready, set, WRITE!
