| | sad | ] | When Heather ( lady_mei) and I created heavenly_dorks, we had this image in our heads of a fun place where dorks can have a good time and share in the topics that make us all unique yet bring us all together. There was a time where heavenly dorks was exactly what we imagined. we had themes, we had many activities and we had a chat room. We were very active and flourished. That was a long time ago, heavenly_dorks is far from that place now. it hasn't been there for years.
When we created the community, Heather and I said that we would rather close down the community then let others run it. We do not want to take the risk of it being turned into something it wasn't intended to be.
With all that said, we have decided to close it down. 2 weeks from today, all posting access will be taken away. we will leave the community dormant.
We have all had a wonderful time, and we have all made friends in this place. So many good memories. I will Miss it. And I have missed it for the last 3 or 4 years. Its time to say goodbye, heavenly_dorks has run its course.
I want to thank our wonderful assistant mods from the past, who have helped us out in so many ways.. help attempt to keep this place alive!
meowchica - You have been amazing putting up with my laziness for so long! lol If it weren't for you hd would have been closed a very long time ago!
fighting_dreamr - As of late you have also been a string holding us together. you have almost been one of the only active members and your artistic talent has brought much to Hd! I am deeply sorry that I'm making this sudden change since it does have a large effect on your current HD plans.
the_duke - thank you for bringing the scots into our daily life!
missjecka - thank you so much for your computer skills and helping HD through the years!
rhys_landale - Oh kitty, you weren't a mod for long, but we thank you!
If I have forgotten you, I'm sorry. its been so long! I want to thank all of our current and previous members! You have brought so much life to this community and i have made so many friends! This is definitely hard for me to say goodbye!
HD will officially be closed down on July 10th! So if you have goodbyes do it now!
Stay heavenly and stay dorky! Ashley and Heather

| Help getting me into the 21st century? |
[May. 17th, 2009|01:59 pm] |
Hi folks,
I was just wondering if any of you could help me out. I decided to shell out some cash to upgrade from an iPod Mini to an iPod Touch 2nd Gen, but I don't completely understand how to use iTunes.
Basically, I've figured out that I need to create a library that'll be synced up to the iPod, which means I ought to preload my audio and video beforehand. The thing is, I'm not sure how to load video onto the iPod, specifically family videos that we have here at home of my grandpa before he died and some YouTube memes. :D
Do I need to convert those first into a different file format before iTunes will accept them for transfer? Could you recommend a free video conversion tool for personal use? I'm not too knowledgable about that sort of thing.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer. |

| Hit Play with PixelVixen707: Velvet Assassin |
[May. 13th, 2009|09:51 am] |

My buddy Rachael Webster, a.k.a. PixelVixen707, has just started writing a new gaming column for SuicideGirls called Hit Play. Her first post is on SouthPeak's Velvet Assassin and the real life WWII spy, Violette Szabo, who inspired the game. Violette went from working a department store counter to working special ops, parachuting behind enemy lines to sabotage roads and railways, help bombers find their targets, and rally the French resistance. Now you can live Violette's life vicariously through your Xbox.
Click HERE to read Hit Play with PixelVixen707 and the A-M-A-Z-I-N-G story of Violette Szabo.

I got a dragon this weekend. Yay! He is happily perched atop my bookshelf. At leat for the next week, until I move. But I couldn't pass him up.
Right side
Left side The flash makes his color stand out more than usual, but you still get a good idea to his color. And I swear his expression changes from time to time.

Go to ESPN.com. On your arrow keypad, hit up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. Then hit 'b', then hit 'a'. Mind = blown.
If you keep hitting up or down after that, it gets better. |

| The Codex Electro Special Edition: WADs for the Great ID Games Trilogy |
[Apr. 24th, 2009|02:54 am] |
| [ | Current Music |
| | Powerglove - Metal Kombat For The Mortal Man | ] | Well, well, well. It seems that, somewhat belatedly, there's actually a request for my Codex Electro posts. You can put the blame for this squarely at the door of meowchica for asking us to "discuss/review a video game you're currently hooked on". When I'm around, this is like asking King Kong to eat all the bananas in the Dominican Republic. Also: "pictures are a plus if you can get them off ign or something". Who needs IGN when Zdoom comes with a screenshot capability? Click the thumbnails and you'll see what I saw on screen.
This has just (within the last few days) been posted on extreme_nerdery to the sound of no comments at all. So, I am going to reproduce it all here, in completely unedited form!
First of all, though: go back and remind yourselves of the previous four entries in the series. They were:
I: Monty Python's Flying Circus (Atari ST) - 10/8/2008 II: Wizball (Atari ST) - 10/8/2008 III: Postman Pat (Atari ST) - 28/9/2008 IV: 1K Chess (ZX81) - 20/10/2008
On with the show. You wanted a review, you got three in one post.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was inspired to write this by Games Radar's 59 levels to play before you die, of which I have experienced precisely two - Tomb Raider's dinosaur experience, and a very brief flash of the N64's version of Rainbow Road, complete with crash barrier, which meant far less scope for The Computer to be A Cheating Bastard than the SNES version did. (Note: as of... yesterday, as it is now, I've expanded the list to three, as I've had a stab at that Mode 7 rotating level in Castlevania IV.)
When it comes to finding extra levels for my favourite first person shooters, there's nothing I like more than a truly enormous level. You know, about ten times bigger than any of the levels in the standard game, likely to be themed around a castle, something so huge and easy to get lost in that if it was reformatted for Quake (where there was no automap) it'd be damn near impossible. In short, the equivalent of a 20-plus-minute Moonsorrow masterpiece.
I was going to find one for all of my favourite FPSs, but as I haven't been able to play Duke Nukem 3D since ditching Windoze 98 about seven years ago, I'll have to restrict this article to the id Games Trilogy. I suppose I could have included Strife, but there are only three WADs for it! Anyway. Onwards.

| Sakura Con |
[Apr. 16th, 2009|11:42 pm] |
I ran into an HD person there I think! I can't remember who it was, but it was in the vendor hall, and I was Lala orange! XP Anyways..
( Pics ) I had fun, but I don't think anime cons are my thing. It was fun, but I'm only marginally interested in anime and Japanese culture. I'm thinking my next con should either be a steam con or scifi con. |

| Last Minute Outfit decisions! |
[Apr. 4th, 2009|08:51 am] |
I am going to Sakura Con in just over a week with a whole bunch of friends. Several of us are dressing up like the Color Kids.
I will be Lala Orange, and I have totally completed that costume! ( See exhibit A )
So my question is, what do I wear the other days? I'm not super into anime, I've seen a few, I read a few. But I don't have the time or resources to sew another costume before the con. I've thought a few ideas. I can:
A: Just wear a Fruits Basket T-shirt (only mine is hot pink instead of grey) with whatever and call it good. B: Dress like a pirate C: Try and do some sort of matrixish, black bad ass-ness or whatever. D: Dress as a Browncoat, (ends up being vaguely steam punk I think... really vaguely). I have this brown knit long coat that I can match with other stuff, and kinda improv it from there... E: Wear my Tudor(never mind the terrible lighting), and make up some anime that it's from.
Please go vote in my poll at my journal and let me know what you think I should wear. |

| [ | Current Music |
| | Spiritual Beggars - Ad Astra | ] | I've just had HeroMachine 2.5 pointed out to me.
Clearly this is extremely dorky because apart from giving the world the opportunity to make comic book characters from scratch, it also works on Konqueror instead of requiring me to reboot my system to the horrors of XP.
Although I find its lack of mjölners and chainmail disturbing. |
