"Exploring" DAI shoes' electrical wiring
Contains actual hack-y stuff!

I've been curious for a while about what the fourth hole in my DAI shoes is for... I still don't know, either.

Below is a pic of my DAI shoes with labels of what I know...  The Vdd point is just the middle pin... I'm not sure it connects to anything.  What I'd really find neat is if either Vdd or the fourth hole can be used to send signals to the hearing aid...  I want to get in touch with an engineer at Phonak about that, at some point.  I probably ought to brush up on my electronics knowledge a bit though.  Any insights from anyone here?

In a week or so I'll do a similar test with my old audio shoes for my Pico Fortes.

It's been quite a while since I've looked at an AS9... but that 4th hole on the bottom of the shoe... take a closer look at it. Does it have a contact in it? If so, no idea what it does. If not, it might be the hole for a color marker tab. The Eleva's color markers are not visible when you change out the battery door to use the accessory battery door (for an AS9 audioshoe or an ML9x FM boot)

Just a thought.

Actually the color marker isn't part of the battery door, but it's near it.

As far as I was able to determine, there doesn't seem to be any contacts in either of the ? holes.

It'd be awesome if I could send a signal to the hearing aid to switch it between modes (even though the buttons already do that).

I personally find the Eleva to be an excellent hearing aid with crappy usability. Is opening the battery door to turn off a hearing aid a standard now?

Yes. The MTO switch is no longer on most hearing aids.
