COMMUNITY INFO/RULES/AFFILIATES/ETC.


Community Information

[info]header_contest is now an open community of creative people. A stepping stone towards expanding your skills, expanding your ability, and expanding your knowledge. A place to get inspiration. I hope to create an atmosphere here that allows for you to create something wonderful.

Every two week challenge will have a specific prompt. It may be fandom based, or stock based, or theme based. I plan to also have style based themes, and tool based themes. Other challenges may include the type of header (LJ Header, User Info Header, Friends Only Header, etc.)

I'm always looking for feed back. You can email me or leave a comment here or on a recent post.

This community is not anonymous. Your entry will be available to the membership of this community to be admired and/or used. This is a chance to share your art that is prompted by the contest. If you are looking to use a header, just leave a comment to the entry or the comment by the artist and let them know. Always credit the artist, it is greatly appreciated.

I hope this can be a warm, carefree community. Put out your best work and be happy with the creativity that surrounds you.

Color Schemes

Having trouble determining which colors go together when putting together your design? Never fear!

Typography and Fonts

  • The Font Thing (Windows) — Allows you to preview text in any font on your computer, sort fonts into categories, etc. Very useful.
  • Linotype FontExplorer X (Mac) — I've never used this, but I imagine it's pretty similar to The Font Thing.
  • DaFont — The one and only. I don't go anywhere else for fonts.
  • Typetester — Online application allowing comparison of different fonts on screen.
  • The Elements of Typogrpahic Style Applied to the Web — Sort of on the dry side, but informative none the less.

Image Hosting

All entries will be hotlinked for the header contest poll. The winning header will be uploaded to the Winners Gallery here.

RULES


  • Making Headers

    • Header must be at least 200x200 pixels, and no larger than 800x800.
    • Header may not be animated.
    • You do NOT need to include "header contest" in the entry, unless specified.
    • Specific Challenge Rules will be posted with each contest.

  • Submitting Headers

    • Submissions must be to the originating challenge post.
    • You must include both the image, and the url of the image.
    • Credit must be given to any graphic resources used. Within Reason.
    • One header per member per contest.
    • Entries are screened. However, This is not an anonymous community. Entries will generally be unscreened when the voting poll is released. Also - Artist Usernames will be posted along side the Header in the voting poll. So that people may download and use your header with proper credit.
    • A submission form will be given with each contest. Please read and fill it out carefully. If you do not use the submission form, you may be disqualified.

  • Important Notes

    • Headers may be posted by the moderator to an external header sharing community. Credit will always be given. This will allow for promotion of the community, as well as the artist.
    • Your header will be hotlinked in the poll. I do not upload all headers to a neutral host. You may not remove your header from the posted URL in your entry form. Once the winners have been announced you may move your header.
    • Winning headers will be uploaded to the winners gallery.
    • You may post your header outside of this community prior to voting.
    • You may not solicit votes.
    • The moderator reserves the right to refuse entry of a header under his discretion. This includes, but is not limited to, excessively obscene or vulgar images or text, excessive nudity, headers deemed to be in bad taste, or headers made by someone other than the submitter.
    • Votes may be disallowed if they are considered influenced or weighted by a participating member. If a participating member is found to be soliciting votes the header may be disqualified, and the participant may be banned from the community.

  • Using Headers

    • Leave a comment to the entry post, at the contest prompt, letting the artist know of your intention to use. Or contact the artist in a different way.
    • Credit the artist in your user info, or where appropriate for how you are using it.
    • Headers are only allowed to be used within LiveJournal.com
    • Any use outside of LJ must be approved by the artist.

  • Schedule

    • Contests will be every other week.
    • Deadlines will be posted with each contest. There is not a "time" for the deadline, only a date. Make sure to have your header in before the date of the deadline - The voting poll will go up at some point in the day the date of the deadline.
    • There is no time frame for the voting poll. It usually will last 3-5 days. Depending on scheduling, and participation.

  • Other

    • It is your responsibility to read the rules. Rules may be altered or updated without notice. (I will try my best to keep you updated, but it is YOUR responsibility to keep yourself updated.)

Results

I currently do not have a banner maker. Winning should give you the warm fuzzies enough. If you want to be a banner maker, let me know. I have been making banners as timer permits. If you are interested is helping - I would love to see some of your work.
