its another case of the jitters in fencing again. and this time was only a mock competition. sigh. i mean, i know im good. really. but i need to stop FUCKING UP WHEN IT COUNTS. play like i always do. dont get distracted. dont worry too much. score like you always did, and stick to my own three tenets. esp with hong kong so near. to think at one point i was even telling everyone how my new blade was heavier. wtf. what a stupid excuse. wake up. its not all fun and games anymore, but treat it like it always is. thats the way to do it. |

FAFSAtime
Yeah, so it's FAFSA time. These things are really boring to fill out, but at least now you can do it in stages so you don't get totally overwhelmed, so it's fairly bearable now. Trying to hook up with some buddypals to see Half Blood Prince tomorrow at midnight. My local ultraplex (literally, its the main theatre for virtually my entire county) is having showings at 12:00, 12:05, 12:10, and 12:15, so essentially four midnight screenings. Most ususually, you can't score the tickets to the midnight Potter showings online as one might be inclined to attempt, so it's probably going to be a matter of me and my friends showing up early and hopefully scoring some tickets. I saw Horton Hears a Who yesterday, better than I expected, and probably one of those DVD's I'd just pop in when nothing else is on, and yet I don't feel like properly "watching" a movie and just need something playing in the background while I mess around on the computer. Since today is Railway Footage Monday, and the new Harry Potter comes out tomorrow, here's a video of the "Hogwards Express" on tour in the UK. In real life the engine is really a Great Western Railway Hall Class built in 1937, and would normally be painted green. I broke the 100 page mark on The Motorman yesterday. I don't expect this story to be more than 250 pages long. Current Mood: bouncy |

I don't know why but since yesterday night until this morning my wlan didn't work... it wasn't the connection itself as everything else (pc, notebook, Wii, PS3) worked just fine. Thought something was wrong with my on-board adapter so I tried new driver, re-installed the old one and read several forum posts. When nothing worked I went to bed, hoping everything'd be fine this morning. Shit happens, it was not.. but at least I was more awake and played with the router online. I don't know exactly what I did or if simply changing the WPA connection alone was enough but it works again. And~ it's the first morning in a long time without any rain! Happy~! Germany
I got back from Germany a few days ago! Other than some mishaps such as missing a flight and getting locked out of a hostel overnight (which was actually kind of funny), it was a really great time. I know a little German, but I was also with my boyfriend who speaks fluent German so there we no real problems getting around. This is the first time I have been to Germany, so here's a quick list of cultural pros and cons that struck me. (These are meant to be taken in good humor.) For reference, I was in the southern part of Germany. ( The pros and cons of Germany ) |

Just in case you guys weren't aware. I bought my midnight-showing tickets today 8) I'm going with my mom and my friend Tatum. I am unbelievably psyched. chambrofsekrits is doing a Movie Premiere costume contest, which I am totally entering because I always dress up anyway (specifically, this year, as Ginny). I'm working on rereading the book, so I've got it all fresh in my head when I actually see it. Right now I am watching a food styling competition on Food Network and suffering horribly because my 10:00 rule is in effect and I can't eat anything and Food Network is, as all college students know, porn for hungry people. (As a direct result of this, tomorrow morning I'm going to the grocery store and buying eggs and making myself some scrambled eggs with salt/black pepper/dill and Monterey jack and possibly some paprika.) Also, I haven't checked my flist in like two and a half days. I'm sorry, my dears, I'm a terrible flister. Current Mood: hungryCurrent Music: Food Network Challenge: Food Magicians |

Tiananmen Hey, let's all have a big party out in Tiananmen Square! Sure, I know the last one was busted up by the cops (and, uh, military), but it lasted for weeks, man! That one guy who kept standing in front of that tank? Boy, the stories he had! It's too bad they killed him instead of letting us bail him out of jail. But I tell ya, this next party? It's going to be BETTER! |

I forget how much hard work rafting is
As what usually happens when it comes physical activities, whitewater rafting kicked my butt—but I had so much fun. Christine and I randomly decided to bring our siblings along to the Lehigh River Gorge in Pennsylvania, for an eleven mile rafting trip. Thank goodness she invited her guy friend from high school along, because for sure we would not have made it in one piece like we did. My feminist side is loath to admit it, but it is true—only because Christine’s brother is ten years old, and a slight boy at that, and his rafting power is … uh, negligible (for now). Christine and I were at the front, my sister and her brother in the middle, and her friend sat at the back, supposedly steering us as captain. I say “supposedly” because for one of the rapids, we accidentally overthrew our captain—literally. The front of the raft (where I sat) managed to avoid this huge rock in the middle of the rapids, but the back swung around and hit it pretty hard…catapulting our captain. The poor guy was crawling on the rock in the middle of fast rapids for a bit, until he was finally able to float towards us and we had to haul him back in. I don’t think I should be in the “saving lives” profession because as I heaved him in, I couldn’t help but laugh hysterically at the same time. All in all, we worked it out as a team. We definitely had our dysfunctional moments, like when we were marooned on yet another rock (story of our lives) and water started rushing into the lower half of the raft. In those situations you’re supposed to shift your weight around, and even bounce around to dislodge the raft from the rock, but when the water started rushing in all I could think of was to hang on. Once I got my wits back and moved to the back (as everyone was yelling at me to do), the raft was free and we floated downriver in one soggy piece. But at least we didn’t overturn! After that experience, we learned to hang back in the middle of the group and let everyone else get stuck on obscure rocks—serving as a useful guide for What Not to Hit. But man oh man, I am feeling so sore. Everything from my arms, to my back, to even my butt hurts with every small move. I will do my best to avoid any heavy lifting or bending for the next…month. :P ( Proof for our soreness ) Current Mood: sore |

Going to Festivals
I have decided that I should spend more time going out. My eyes long for natural beauty, and my ears too. Today I went to two summer festivals, that of the university for music, and the Japanese summer festival. I listened to some jazz - usually I am a classic fan, but I realized that I can listen to jazz, following the intertwining voices of the instruments, and listening to the quality of the single notes - but I am not really interested in rock and pop or any music that is just too loud and that does not offer anything that I can listen to intently. In German there is the word "lauschen" - means to listen very intently and carefully to something that is very pianissimo - if I can do this, I like the music. I don't care about diving into the music and getting overwhelmed by the mood it wants to convey. ( rest hidden for length ) |

Doorbell Prank
Just now, the doorbell rang. I wasn't expecting anyone (and it's a Sunday) so with a puzzled look I went to open the door. There were two boys (10?11?) grinning like mad. And on some unspoken command they giggled "Doorbell prank..!!", jumped down the stairs and ran away. Most awesome doorbell prank ever Current Mood: amused |

unbelievable chicken boys *__*
Wow, I'm beyond impressed and almost in awe of how good Tego and Massu are. I've finally started watching the Tanabata promos and listening to all the new songs and they're all so fcking GOOD! *_________* And right now I'm convinced we can get them back to Sweden again. But if anyone uploads the Swedish single, we're screwed. Ah, the messages from them on the Swedish single were sweet. :) And PHEW, I'm not in the documentary! XD Yesterday I was at Finncon, which was really nice. Thanks for the good company, vierran45 and melizah! Looots of fans came to the J&A meet!! Even some guys. And there were even more Johnny's fans at the con, who weren't at the meet. This is very good news. :)) Jossain tulevassa conissa me sitten yhteisvoimin pidetään J&A-esitelmä, eikö niin?! Kuka on messissä? XDD At the meet we did Intro Don at first, then we danced (or tried to dance) to Sukiyanen Osaka, and then damagea and her friend, dressed as KoyaShige, performed Chirarizumu on the table. ( some Finncon pictures )Speaking of YwBIS or whatever you're supposed to call them, I think I really like them. *facepalm*. Oh and I was in Helsinki last weekend too, at a J&A barbecue party at luma_chan's place, where we also did an all-night Hadaka no Shounen marathon watching. :D There are some pics here, as well as a video of most of us failing badly at three-legged limbo. |

Hahhaaaa
I love today's Sinfest. Mmmmm.... I read Sinfest, Questionable Content and XKCD regularly, religiously. They're all on my feeds so I don't miss them, but QC is by far my favorite. I regularly go to the actual website to check for updates, and I have a lot of his T-shirts. I usually forget about Gunnerkrigg Court until something reminds me, and then I check up on it. The characters are by far more complex and harder for me to remember than QC's. (XKCD and Sinfest's are mainly episodic with short story arcs.) This might be worth actually buying the book so I can easily flip back and forth and remember story arcs and characters. Same with Dr. McNinja, though it's a more beloved comic. I bought a poster off the site, but it got torn so I had to throw it away. :'( Current Mood: mischievousCurrent Music: You're Under Arrest |

two links
Ron Paul: Angry White Man. And here's something from a journalist about journalists' treatment of Sarah Palin, and how it lays bare the incredible bias that has shaped the public's view of her. [T]o me the entire Sarah saga revealed that it wasn't only the traditional media's business model that is broken. Our journalism model is busted, too.
In the 2008 election, we took sides, straight and simple, particularly with regard to the vice presidential race. I don't know that we played a decisive role in that campaign, and I'm not saying the better side lost. What I am saying is that we simply didn't hold Joe Biden to the same standard as Sarah Palin, and for me, the real loser in this sordid tale is my chosen profession.
[...]
Meanwhile, an unrelated development put journalism on the firing line.
That event was the decline of conservative, mostly Southern, Democrats (and, eventually, liberal Republicans as well). A patchwork quilt of ideology and regionalism gave way to a U.S. political system more closely resembling that of Great Britain. Today, an American who is liberal tends to be a Democrat, a conservative is almost always a Republican. This may help clarify things for voters, but it created a little-understood crisis for journalists. If being "liberal" now meant sympathy for the Democratic Party, and being conservative implied sympathy for Republicans, all those liberal newsrooms across the country were gradually going to alienate themselves from about half their readers.
That this might pose a problem never dawned on the men and women who controlled the media — even as it drove their right-of-center readers and viewers away in droves. When I tell my friends working in places like The New York Times that they created Rush Limbaugh, they respond with shock and disbelief. But it's obvious to me that it's true, even as the anointed sages of the Old Media solemnly denied that an animal such as "liberal bias" existed at all. It's like that scene in the fire swamp in "The Princess Bride" when Buttercup expresses fear of "R.O.U.Ses." Replies our hero Wesley: "Rodents Of Unusual Size? I don't think they exist" — just as one is about to chomp his arm off.

"She is a far-right conservative who supported Pat Buchanan over Bush in 2000. She thinks global warming is a hoax and backs the teaching of creationism in public schools," wrote Jonathan Alter in Newsweek on Aug. 29, 2008. Actually, she did not support Buchanan, she questioned whether climate change is man-made (not whether it's occurring) and gave creationists the most minor of rhetorical nods — and never questioned the teaching of evolution in schools.

Remember her callous decision as governor to cut Alaska's special education budget by 62 percent? After receiving emails to that effect, CNN's Soledad O'Brien cited the figure on-air. Oops. Palin actually tripled the state's spending on special needs kids.
Did you hear the one about her membership in the Alaska Independence Party, which favors secession from the union? That made The New York Times, and it was wrong, too. It's a really long read, but it's well worth it if you want to understand how unfairly Palin was treated, and how busted the MSM is. |

only Freud would combine phalluses and 6-yr-olds Your result for The Freud's 5 Sexual Stages Test...
Phallic Stage. You're 4-7 yrs old
You are stuck in the Phallic Stage , the stage you are supposed to be in when you're 4-7 years old. In this stage it is time for figuring out what it means to be a girl/boy. You deal with fear for castration or penis-envy. Also as a boy you have to cope with the Oedipus-complex (being in love with your mother and hating your father) and as a girl you have to cope with the Elektra-complex (being in love with your father and hating your mother). In this phase a human learns morality, gender-identification and confidence.
Well, something went wrong here and resulted in a Phallic Fixation. The most important cause is divorce of your parents according to Freud. The successful resolution of the Oedipus/Elektra complex and the resulting identification process requires the presence of both parents. Sexual abuse and religious beliefs (telling you sex is wrong) are common causes too.
A fixation at this stage could result in puritanical beliefs, sexual deviancies (both overindulging and avoidance) and weak or confused sexual identity.
