Evanescence Return to the Stage at "Secret" New York Gig 11/5/09, 9:29 am EST
Photo: Noam Galai It was a chant that hadn’t been heard in Manhattan in more than two years, and it started a little after 9 p.m., as the anxious crowd who packed out the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom started growing more and more impatient: "EVAN-ES-SCENTS, EVAN-ES-SCENTS." And though the last time Amy Lee floated across a stage George W. Bush was in office, you wouldn’t have been able to tell from the band’s adept, hard-charging performance.
But as the Evanescence frontwoman explained to the audience at last night’s extremely intimate secret concert, the one-off performance was quite necessary. After all, on November 8th, Evanescence will be performing before 40,000 screaming fans at the Maquinaria Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the band needed a little limbering up before heading south. “Thanks for being our guinea pigs,” Lee joked to the mostly female crowd.
With Evanescence hard at work on the follow-up to 2006’s The Open Door, it’ll be another year before they’re back in New York, making last night’s concert a one-of-a-kind experience for the band’s rabid fans, who sold out the show in five minutes.
Lee, looking rested and donning bulky black boots and a multi-colored dress that looked like it was stolen from the Project Runway work room, commanded the stage, stretching her operatic pipes and stomping across the stage like a pixie on speed during the set’s opener, “Going Under,” her voice as crisp and smoky as ever. The band, featuring fill-in guitarist James Black from Finger Eleven, sounded tight, and ripped through cuts like “The Only One” and “Missing” for the mesmerized audience, who hoisted smart phones and Flip cams in the air, recording every minute.
After "Haunted," the band pummeled the crowd through "Lithium," with Lee swaying and bouncing around the stage, pumping her fists in the air. The anguish in Lee’s voice was palpable, and the band skillfully replicated live what they do on tape. Next came "Good Enough," with Lee stroking the ivories and delivering her lyrics with an elegant sweetness reminiscent of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan.
After "Whisper," Lee and the band launched into the anthemic "Call Me When You’re Sober," which had everyone in the place headbanging along with Lee, whose hair whipped in circles wildly as she belted out the chorus. As the song ended, a fan tossed up a teddy bear that was intended for Lee, but ended up in the grip of a stage hand.
The audience sang every lyric back at Lee during “Bring Me to Life,” which was followed by "All That I’m Living For" and "Taking Over Me." Then came "Lacrymosa" with Lee going solo for "My Immortal," a song that’s become something of an Alanis Morissette-like battle hymn for her Goth disciples over the last few years. Before leaving the stage, Lee thanked her fans for being so supportive for so long, and promised new material was on the way. "My life is the new disc", says lead singer of Evanescence, the way to Brazil
Singer and songwriter Amy Lee spoke to the G1 on the new job.
After a period of hiatus, Evanescence seems to be slowly returning to life. The way to Brazil for a show at the festival machinery, on 8 November in Sao Paulo, the pianist, singer and songwriter Amy Lee spoke to the G1 by telephone from his home in New York, while drinking tea. A nice, a gothic fairy 27 years ensures that the successor of the album "The Open Door," released in 2006, is already being prepared.
The artist also says he remembers well from his debut in Brazil in April 2007, when the group formed in Little Rock, Arkansas, made his first Latin American tour. "The fans were very excited. They went to our hotel, sang and spent the whole night there. They were really cute and made us feel welcome and loved. The shows were fantastic and they were totally out of control. There is something very special in the Brazilian fans. They are very passionate, "he says.
This passion is so uncontrollable that many of them to get tattoos with the symbol of Evanescence. It's really quite crazy, "says Amy Lee, adding that high expectations for their return to the country.
"I think it will be great fun. I do not want to be equal to the last time we were there, why do not we play new songs, but the idea is to try to play tracks that do not show the last time and make the presentation and feel. The basis of the repertoire will be the big hits, things that everybody knows. I'll try to pick something interesting to wear, "she laughs, apologizing for the lack of new material." We'll have more next time, I promise. "
You like fashion, Amy Lee usually do some of her clothes and is already planning to use the costume at the festival in Brazil. "I love to think I'm wearing a work of art and I always worry about what to wear. I found a designer for two months to create a new costume for the presentation. The stage allows us to go crazy over these things. "
She has accompanied the guitarist Terry Balsamo, bassist Tim McCord and drummer Will Hunt, and a guitar support. If the truculent departure of guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray two years ago seems to have been in the past, the artist does not hide some insecurities with the new configuration.
"Whenever there are changes in the band I'm a little nervous," he admits. "Anything that changes, until a team member, makes me nervous, because I do not want to upset anyone. But we will have a week to rehearse together [before the show in Brazil] and everything will be OK. "
The much-awaited album of new material should come in the second half of 2010. "My life has been the new album," he says. "I did not write anything last year, I do not know what happened, would not come out. But then something happened this year, I started getting crazy. I'm writing a lot of music lately, I'm going to a totally new direction and incredible. I really wish I could show these things in the show, but I'll wait for the album came out. I'm working on things related to the new album almost every day."
The plan, according to the artist, is going into the studio in January and February of next year and launch the new job until the end of summer in the northern hemisphere. "But still I do not know the right day," she despista, confident that will not go out on a solo career soon.
"I've been thinking a lot about how the new album should be called, this kind of thing, and when I started writing, I realized that I am the same person ever and I see no reason to change the name. The Evanescece is a project of mine is a big part of me, and his heart is still there. I spent much time thinking about it and came to the conclusion that I can do whatever you want with this band. "
Now married to the therapist Josh Hartzler, Amy Lee says he changed his point of view of the importance it gives to things. "Marriage is a very important step. After that, you put everything in perspective. Now, if everything goes wrong, and everyone hates the music, which I hope does not happen, I know I have someone who loves me waiting for me. "

AMY ON EVTHREADS
Hey guys, I know you figured it out already but I just wanted to say we are indeed headlining one of the three nights at the festival in Sao Paulo in November! We've had a few cool opportunities to play one-offs over the past year or so, and I usually end up saying no because I've been so focused on the new material and I don't want to get sidetracked (organizing an Ev show takes some pretty serious time and preparation). BUT the writing has been going so well lately, and you Brazil fans are some of our best and craziest, we decided to just go for it! We wont be playing new material, its going to be a collection of songs you already know (new stuff will come in due time ). I also wanted you to know that this is not the surprise I was referring to- that is still coming, and it WILL be a little something new to hear. ..... I really love these little smily guys. And what the hell is this one ? It looks like a ghost that swallowed a hanger. ANYWAY, I'm really excited and a little nervous about the show- I've been my anonymous alter-ego for a long time! Mostly I can't wait to feel that feeling again- completely swallowed by the music. I love you guys and I can't wait to see you Brazil! We're gonna have a good time. love, Amy |

I have a little surprise for you that I can't spill just yet, but its coming soon and I can't wait. I will let you know as soon as I'm allowed to! Talk to you soon!

What a strange and sad day. Michael Jackson was possibly the greatest (and definitely the most influential) artist of our time. He's one of my biggest and first musical influences, and I know that to be true for many many people. I hope he's in a better place and can finally be at peace. I feel like he was very misunderstood. I'm taking comfort in the fact that his music will live forever...

| Evanescence's "Going Under" and "My Immortal" to be in the Twilight Saga's New Moon |

March 18, 2009 / music 0 Comments
I’m sure we can all agree that a movie just doesn’t feel complete without a little music. Like soul mates, the two were made for each other. Luckily for the modern director, today’s music industry has plenty of talented musicians with hit songs that add to any movie’s appeal. These songs are just too good to be confined to one album, and this is where the original motion picture soundtrack comes in.
Carrie Underwood’s, “That’s Where It Is” is featured in the New in Town soundtrack while The Wrestler’s original soundtrack includes “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” by Lil Wayne, featuring Birdman. Alkaline Trio’s song, “Over and Out” is featured on the Underworld: Rise of the Lycans soundtrack, along with Perry Farrell’s, “Nasty Little Perv,” which also appears on the official TV soundtrack released last month for the hit show, NCIS. Farrell’s track, “Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)” is also on the original motion picture soundtrack for the infamous vampire film, Twilight.
I Love You, Man, a romantic comedy due out next week, features “Dancing with Myself” by The Donnas. Also lined up for an upcoming film are Linkin Park’s “Papercut” and Evanescence’s “Going Under” and “My Immortal” in The Twilight Saga: New Moon due out in November 2009.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the music.

it just mentions "former members of Ev" contributing to Tyrone Wells' album.
i'm guessing David because Tyrone seems to be somewhat of a Christian artist.
*edit* i was right
Tyrone worked with songwriter/producer Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, KT Tunstall, James Morrison) and Iain Archer (UK indie artist and Snow Patrol co-writer) in the UK, and Tim Myers (formerly of OneRepublic), David Hodges (formerly of Evanescence) and Matt Scannell (Vertical Horizon) in the U.S. Creating a work that manages to be more guitar-edged than previous Wells' efforts - but still unabashedly soul-baring - he appreciated huddling with collaborators like Terefe, who - like Wells - is a big believer in trusting one's instincts. “We had great chemistry together.” “Losing Ground,” one of a handful of production/songwriting collaborations between Wells and Terefe, was written and demoed in less than 3 hours during their first writing session together. -from Tyrone's myspace |

Saw this on Evthreads just now ???????????????????
POSSIBLE NEWS: Amy Lee Writing and Recording With Will Hunt I came across this article and it states... Quote: Since he started producing records about five years ago, Will Hunt has worked with some big regional names, including The Polyphonic Spree, Green River Ordinance, and The Burning Hotels, and he's currently writing and recording with Evanescence's Amy Lee. But the 31-year-old Fort Worthian is closing the doors to his studio, Spaceway, in Dallas, because he's going to be doing so much work in New York City starting this summer. "The Fort Worth music scene is diverse and impressive," he said. "It has been a pleasure to contribute in some small way." just a reminder of WHICH Will Hunt..

Hey everybody.
I just wanted to check in and say hi. I saw all the stuff about "evanescence day" and didn't realize it was the anniversary of our first major release! Six years!? It feels all that was a lifetime ago. I remember the day it came out, we were in Seattle on tour and we walked down to a local record store, which is crazy in itself now that those are basically extinct, and bought a copy apiece. Actually I bought 2 copies for extra luck. I don't really remember much from around then- its a blur. But I remember that there was a poster of our album cover in the window of the little place, and that was a big deal. I took a picture. Speaking of record stores, did you guys hear that all the Virgin stores are closing? Its so sad. And weird. We really will see the end of record stores in our lifetime. It wasn't as shocking when just the smaller stores started going out of business, but now no Virgin Megastore in NYC?? Circuit City is closing too. I don't know, just rambling, but I'm going to miss walking into a music store, browsing around at stuff I don't need, asking the guy at the counter what cd was on in the store because I like it and buying it, and just feeling like there's a place where I kinda belong. Maybe its petty and stupid, but there's just something really magical about looking around at the history of music- from the Beatles to Neil Young to Nirvana to Bjork- and having a little place there. Right between the Eurythmics and Everclear. I hope that this new era of seemingly limitless information will still have some magic. I hope great music will still shine through when there's an impossibly bigger sea of noise. I hope that radio stations and record companies will either find a way to restore their confidence in music and originality or just go ahead and die already.
So the Legends and Lyrics thing was pretty crazy. Turns out Dwight Yoakam is a complete badass. I guess I'm the last to know because I don't usually listen to country, but I don't care what you like, he is the real thing. A musician, an entertainer, a storyteller, a pro. Gavin DeGraw was extremely talented too. He's a great songwriter and his voice is insane. I'm only saying all this because I really didn't know anything at all about either of them before going to Nashville. The fact that the three of us sat around in a circle on stage and played songs in the same setting was somewhere between genius and hilarious- we're all vastly different. I think thats why I liked it so much. The banter was akward for sure but the music was really good. I'm nervous and excited to watch it. Thanks to you hungry, sleep deprived people that trekked it long distances to support us that day. It meant alot to me. Thank you to Susana and Kaiden for the cupcake kit and I LOVED THAT CARD! My sister Carrie was there with me and we played the pirate song over and over cracking up later that night. Kaiden, you are awesome and I wish I could get hugs from you every day!
I'm excited about the music I've been working on lately- no nametags yet so relax!- I hope to be always growing and edging toward the outskirts of my comfort zone. Thank you for appreciating the music I've made so far, and thank you for sticking around in the quiet times.
love, Amy |

[Feb. 28th, 2009|10:15 pm] |
In front of a shining black Baldwin piano, Amy Lee of Evanescence made her first real performance in over a year…and it was a good one. On February 23, 2009, the hauntingly beautiful singer/songwriter could be found at a taping of Legends and Lyrics in Nashville, Tennessee, sharing the stage with artists Gavin DeGraw and Dwight Yoakam.
Though out of her element in an "in the round" session, she quickly made herself comfortable at the piano, performing an acoustic set with guitar (cue Terry Balsamo of Evanescence) and cello. The trio can only be described as raw, ethereal, and haunting.
Lee, the first of the artists to perform, began with Bring Me To Life from the album Fallen, setting the bar for the program. Before delving into Lithium, from album The Open Door, Amy felt the need to clarify the meaning of the song. Speculating that there were likely many interpretations, she explained simply that the song was about choosing to feel over choosing numbness. Good Enough, also from album The Open Door, was described by Lee as the “happy song” of the evening. Before Call Me When You’re Sober, again from The Open Door, she went on to explain how the song was created from two very different pieces, one from her, one from Terry.
For Amy’s final song of the evening, it was a surprise and an honor to be privy to her new song, one that had not yet been performed for a public audience. From the first few notes and syllables uttered, Lee held the crowd, including Gavin DeGraw and Dwight Yoakam, in the palm of her hand. The piece, entitled Your Love, was described as being about love that cannot work. It took a few moments for the spell to wear off once the song was over.
There are artists whose live performances fall short, that disappoint. Amy Lee is not one of those artists. Her emotions run deep and when she bares herself to her audience, it’s difficult not to take notice; you cannot just hear her words, you feel them as well. |
