Saturday. Hate in the Box. Tool. A big boat?!?! [Jun. 18th, 2009|05:23 pm]

cyanidebonbon
OH YEAH!

Ok so we're talking about Gilligan's Island and whether it'd be better to be marooned with Ginger or Mary Anne when the Batphone rings.

It's Adam from Schism (amazing Tool tribute band!) telling us one of the bands for his Saturday show fell overboard and they want to know if HITB fans would cancel their Saturday night plans to come out with us to rock the boat!

Schism is the best and certainly the most insane Tool Tribute band out there, combining video projections and crazy painted people and MAD SKILLS!

So we have to know by midnight tonight: Are we crazy for thinking this is an amazing idea or do you want to roam the seas with Hate in the Box this Saturday? On a boat!

Details: Saturday June 20th @ Midnight in Manhattan (23rd Street at FDR Drive)

What's your favorite hangover remedy? [Jun. 8th, 2009|07:22 pm]

cyanidebonbon

Sometimes after a successful evening of havoc wreaking and debauchery, you end up paying for it the next day. After cataloging the bruises, welts, new piercings and new friends in bed with you, actions must be taken to preserve what little health/sanity you have left.

Some of our favorite remedies include:

1-More BOOZE. Apply liberally until the pain stops.

2-PIZZA! Soak up the booze with doughy, cheesy goodness!! The grease forms a protective barrier to keep whatever combination of high-octane liquid courage you drank the evening prior from eating away at your insides.

3-Good ol' fashioned alka seltzer- a classic antidote for over indulgence. I also like gingerale in the summer or ginger tea in the winter.

Now it's your turn to share and help a fellow party monster recover on the morning after. What's your tried and true hangover remedy?

Saturday Morning Cartoons! [May. 24th, 2009|10:45 pm]

cyanidebonbon

As a wee Blight, fresh in the packaging, I always looked forward to saturday morning cartoons. It seemed like a magical time that was made just for kids. Adults would glance at the screen disapprovingly and go about their own business while me and my little bro would lie on our tummies, staring at the colorful characters splashed on the screen, engaging in battles to save the world, going on adventures, defying gravity and generally causing a ruckus. I imagined myself in technicolor worlds alongside my favorite villains and heroes.

It's kind of obvious which was my favorite, haha, but I also loved shows like Thunder Cats, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles, Batman the animated series, X-men and even sillier stuff like Darkwing duck and Chip n' Dale rescue rangers!

Do you still watch cartoons or have old favorites? Let us know which ones and why!

What's your favorite Terminator film? [May. 21st, 2009|11:31 pm]

cyanidebonbon

With the latest installment in the series coming out and the sick T3 giveaways at our show tomorrow, I've been thinking alot about the Terminator movies and was curious as to which was your favorite? Of course I've enjoyed all the films but everyone has the one that really catches them.

When T2 came out I was excited but a bit skeptical. How could they top the high tension and badassness of the first film, I wondered? The answer of course was to make the evil robot villain of the Terminator 1 into a good guy and pit him against insane super-improved next gen robot villain! AWESOME! So many cool scenes and fights, it's hard to pick just one.

What I liked most was that Linda Hamilton's character had developed from scared waitress into a tough survivor with this edge of desperation from her knowledge of what the future would eventually hold and no one, not even her own son believing her until SUPER ROBOT BATTLE time. Who would expect an action movie to have a character with that much depth?

So now it's your turn, tell us which Terminator film you like the best and why!

Frame shop foolishness [May. 6th, 2009|07:20 pm]

hitb_scientist
[Current Location |NYC]
[Emotional status | annoyed]

So you've probably already seen pictures of the awesome painting Blight is showing this weekend at Manifesto over on her LiveJournal page.

By the way, for those of you living far from NYC you may want to check out Rainbow Blight's DeviantArt page to see more of her work. Plug!

Anyway, even though the painting is done we thought it would be nice to have it remounted in the cool frame she picked and have glass put in to protect it. We like doing going to the little places in our neighborhood for everything whenever possible, and there's a little place not too far from us we've passed before that does frame work so we decided to stop in and see what kind of place it is.

Bad.

At first things were cool. Blight had a sketch with her with the shape and dimensions of the painting and frame so she showed the guy that. Knowing the shape and the dimensions and that we wanted it mounted and glass added there wasn't anything to be unsure about so he gave us a quote. Ok so now we have a price, we like it. Cool.

How soon can this be done? The guy says it can be ready in a day. Ok cool. Let's go home and get the painting and do this, awesome!

When we get back with the painting he takes a look and does some measurements, I guess to recheck what we had written earlier. While he's doing that we ask again, are you sure we can have this ready by tomorrow? We really need it to be ready so we can get it to the gallery. A pause, then he says yeah maybe by this time tomorrow. Then gives us a quote 50% higher than the one we got before. Mmhmm.

Ok, I think to myself. You know, we need to have this done by tomorrow so we can go have the painting put up in the gallery so why make a big fuss. It's not going to bankrupt us, and maybe he noticed something technical that makes the job more complicated that I wouldn't understand. Maybe it will get done in time, after all he doesn't get paid unless it's done right and done in time.

Then he asks us to pay up front and tacks on whatever tax brings the price up again.

At this point I just asked. So you raised the price 50% already, we get no assurance that this will be done in time for our event, tax is not included and you want us to pay 100% up front?

He says we take can it elsewhere. Damn right!

This is a business in the art community? Sad.

Anyway, nothing like the internet to tell people that something SUCKS!
So if you agree that this is complete bullshit, go to the following links and give them the 1 finger salute. I mean, the 1 Star rating. And when there's a "was this review helpful" thumbs up, click that too. No artist should have to deal with nonsense like this when it can be avoided by a simple mouse click.

Thank you for helping to save other New York artists needless grief!

Rainbow Blight art show! [May. 5th, 2009|05:08 am]

hitb_scientist
[Current Location |NYC]

Yeah!

So Rainbow Blight has been invited to have her work in the final gallery showing at an awesome art gallery here in Manhattan with some ridiculously talented artists!

For those of you who didn't know she's been making art since before we even met, and did all the artwork for the Hate in the Box albums, fliers, posters, website, MySpace, etc.

She's also done bronze sculptures, mixed media paintings and other assorted artistic oddities of awesome so for whatever reason we just never really thought about galleries. We just kind of live like this =P

So anyway, she made a LiveJournal post for friends showing the process of making the main piece she's showing. It's one of those things you just have to see in person, lots of texture and irridescent layers that don't really come out on camera but if you're in far far away land you can still get a taste of what it's like over here.

Oh yeah, she put a list of the other artists on there and links to their pages and stuff. So much cool stuff it doesn't make sense for me to type it all just go see =P

What's your favorite pair of boots? [May. 1st, 2009|05:34 pm]

cyanidebonbon
Being a military brat I became acquainted with boots pretty early in life. The first time I got my very own pair that I handpicked I was about 17. It was my birthday and I knew exactly what I wanted. I walked down St. Marks place and went from one shop to the next, no longer the window shoppin' teen I usually was, but striding with the confidence that only comes from having a fat wad of birthday money burning a hole in your pocket. Did I want calf high or knee high? What color? Leather or patent or vinyl?

Then I spotted them, the perfect boots were beckoning to me from the corner of my eye. They laced all the way up to the knee, were super sturdy black leather, and had just the right amount of sexy/stompy factor, with a cute bump toe and enough platform to elevate my tiny frame without making me trip all over the place (I was SUPER clumsy).

So what's your favorite pair of boots? Do you like them rugged or colorful? Stompy or high heeled? Write or post a pic so we can see!

Clowns: Love them or Hate them? [Apr. 23rd, 2009|08:40 pm]

cyanidebonbon

I'm quite sure that if I had never become a musician I'd be in the Circus. Ever since my first time at the Circus when I was just a wee baby Blight, I've always been thrilled by it. What cemented my love for clowns specifically was a horror movie called Killer Klowns from Outer Space. I loved the idea of blood drinking invaders from another planet whose spaceship was a big circus tent, killing anyone who gets in their way in wicked and hilarious ways.

So what about you? Do clowns make you want to laugh or cry? Run away screaming or run to give 'em a hug?

People VS Robots: who will win? [Apr. 5th, 2009|03:18 pm]

cyanidebonbon

We are rather fond of having a 5 piece all live whirligig but as the time to play shows once again gets closer and closer, we're also thinking of going back to our roots and doing a 3 piece with drums and bass on a sampler/drum machine. This will also let us play songs like eLECTRIC dOLLS that is rather sample heavy and do other fun stuff that we can't do with a live drummer. It'll also mean that we can travel a lot farther and see more of you!

While the album is busy being mixed and mastered, Crime's been working on this idea as a backup, but we want to know what you think. We've seen plenty of bands put on awesome shows without a live drummer like Angelspit, The Prodigy, Hanzel und Gretyl, etc. So we know it's possible and hey, we've already done it ourselves and gotten a great response.

So what do you think, do you want us to spend a lot more time before you get to see us onstage finding, auditioning and teaching a new bassist and drummer our songs? Or should we just kick it old school with the sampler and get back to playing shows as soon as possible?

Let us know what you think!

Who's your favorite movie monster? [Apr. 4th, 2009|04:20 pm]

cyanidebonbon
[Tags|, , ]
[Current Location |HITB headquarters]
[Emotional status | enthralled]

Whether they're destroying Tokyo with radioactive fire, lurking underwater or bristling with fur and teeth, I love monsters. They could be classics like werewolves and vampires or shape shifting aliens from beyond the stars, I loved them all. Preferably the kind that involve animatronics. Something about knowing that those monsters physically exist, that somewhere there is a room full of frightful, menacing figures makes me happy inside.

I remember even as a little kid being totally addicted to Horror. Every time we'd go to the video store, I'd run right to the horror section and examine the spooky, blood spattered packaging for the latest films. Was I in the mood for demonic possession? Scales and teeth glistening in the dark? Living dolls bent on the destruction of human life and devouring of souls? These were the pressing questions I'd ask myself as I made promises to eat all my vegetables if I could please, please watch this or that film! Half the time my mom would be too tired to watch the whole thing so I don't think she realized the insane shit my 10 year old brain was absorbing.

Then one day there came a new monster to replace my love for the classics. A creature that travelled through nightmares and slaughtered children in their sleep in new and imaginative ways, cracking jokes all the while. You'd better believe that the image of his burnt, disfigured face and knife-like fingers figured in my dreams for weeks after seeing that first movie, along with the haunting little melody "one, two freddy's coming for you"

So now it's your turn! Share your favorite monster here!

Should we post our silly bulletins here? [Mar. 29th, 2009|06:47 pm]

cyanidebonbon
We've been having a lot of fun having silly little conversations via bulletins on Myspace about everything from favorite supervillains to what household appliances would serve best in a zombie apocalypse O_O They've been a great way to get to know our fans and also find out about cool movies that we somehow missed in our voracious appetites for horror schlock.

While that's all well and good, we know that not all of you here in LJ land want to make the journey to the dreaded MySpace. Not only that but even if you do have a profile there, you might not check it very often, and MySpace bulletins are deleted after 10 days. So, should we post them here too? What do you think?

Fun with comic books! [Mar. 14th, 2008|04:30 pm]

cyanidebonbon
Anybody read any good ones lately? I just picked up a copy of Warren Ellis' new comic Doktor Sleepless and it's shaping up to be a killer sci-fi future world that I can really sink my teeth into. For those of you with empty pockets, he just started up a free webcomic as well called Freak Angels that has some nifty steampunk aspects and beautiful art! Make sure to start at Episode 1

I've also totally fallen in love with the new Garth Ennis comic "The Boys" I was intrigued from the start but decided to wait until the trade paperbacks with the collected issues came out so I could gorge myself on them all at once. Single issues of comics get me so frustrated! If you enjoy superhero-satire and all around ass-kicking, you won't find a better comic than this! *Almost* beats my favorite Garth Ennis comic ever, which would be a one-off called "The Pro" Find it, read it, love it!
