No Walk in Ottawa - Update!
Some fans at hanson.net have decided that they're going to do the walk with or without Hanson. :) They'll be outside the venue at 3pm if anyone wants to join them.

They're also planning to call into a radio station Hanson will be on tomorrow morning to let the guys know that they're still doing the walk.

I don't know if it'll convince the guys to change their minds, but I think it's awesome that they're still doing the walk anyway! :)

I've posted details here: http://www.takethewalk.net/

(P.S. I'm not one of the fans doing the walk, I'm just passing the info on for anyone in the area who wants to join them!)

Ugh. It's not like Hanson's not doing the walk because they're afraid of the cold. They don't want their fans to get sick, either. They know how stupid their fans are and how they don't like to wear proper clothing and they're all going to die of hypothermia if they do the walk. I wish people would, like, once in a while..JUST once in a while is all I ask, respect Hanson's wishes.

I understand that, but these fans live in Canada. They say they're used to the cold weather and while they respect that Hanson isn't used to this kinda of weather, they aren't bothered by it and want to do the walk. *shrug* I'm just taking their word for it that they know what to expect.

Well, I'm not going the walk in Ottawa but as a Canadian, I can say -8C is really nothing. Bundle up warmly, and you should be fine. I've definitely suffered through worse weather (-20C!). However, I do try to avoid going out in the cold as often as I can. It is miserable weather, but it could be A LOT worse.

:) I'm glad to hear from someone who doesn't plan on walking that the weather isn't too bad for people who are used to it. As much as I admire these fans for keeping the walk going by themselves, I would hate to think that they're doing it in temperatures they're not really used to.

They all seem pretty adamant that it's no big deal, but it's good to hear from someone who isn't trying to talk people into walking. lol

I did the walk in Toronto (don't remember the temps), and it was pretty bad .. my boots were soaked from the snow and slush, and it was cold. So, I do hope the fans are adequately prepared. I think that's why Hanson isn't doing the walk, because some fans might underestimate the walk, and not dress appropriately or something, and they don't want to risk it.

I live in Wisconsin. I'm very used to cold weather. But I'm not used to walking a MILE in it.

It was one thing when we still did the walk in Saint Louis because Hanson physically couldn't BE there. This is for HEALTH reasons. They don't want the fans dying from pneumonia.

And I know it's not you, I'm just saying. It frustrates me that people are so interested in making Hanson notice them that they, like, seem to forget what the actual purpose of the walks are for. Use the money these girls will eventually have to spend on cold medicine to give kids in Africa school supplies or food or shoes, instead.

I personally don't want to do it to make Hanson notice me or whatever. I wanna do it coz it's symbolic for me.. and right now in my life i need to do something like this. It's like a step toward a new beggining, a step to feel better, to motivate myself to keep on fighting even though i'm going through some very rough times. I wanna go out there and walk. Show myself that i'm able to go forward, take action and even help other people out there.

I'm sure everyone has it's own reasons for doing it..maybe some want to be noticed by Hanson.. but it's not my case. I just wanna have fun one last time with Hanson fans before I move to Japan.

I'm gonna dress in warm clothes and take ecchinacea and make sure i don't get sick.

I just want you to know that I'm jealous of you for moving to Japan! I just got back about a month ago and I LOVED it. I would live there in a heartbeat.

Personally, i'm from Montreal and I was born and raised in Quebec city where it's even more cold. I'm used to -40C during winter..

This temperature doesn't even seem cold for me. Wear mittens, hoodie/hat, scarf and you're good to go!

I'm pretty disapointed that they're not doing the walk because that's what convinced me to go to the show at first. I haven't been as much into their music as I used to for the past 1 year and half... and I found out 2 weeks ago about what they were doing in Africa and It convinced me to go to the concert even though I not much money to travel, plus I don't really know the new songs. I've been going through some very rough times lately and seeing all the "taking the walk" videos really made me realize how small my problems were compared to people in Africa (and lots of other people all around the world).. it really was a wake-up call for me and it gave me courage to keep on going with my life, the courage to fight.. and it mostly made me want to go out there and help other people and feel proud of myself. So taking the walk was very symbolic for me. Sure Hanson is always great in concert and it's gonna cheer me up..and i still wanna help people out there..

but i dunno i'm just really bummed this walk was cancelled and i think the idea that some fans had to take the walk without hanson is awesome and i think i will participate since i'm going to arrive in Ottawa around 9am (as I previously said i'm from Montreal,Quebec)

So it's not really to go agaisn't hanson wishes. i usually respect their wishes actually.. it's not like i would camp outside in the cold or go out in a mini-skirt... no no. but this walk means something for me..it's symbolic..it's a step i'm taking to get better. It was a motivation for me and I think other fans might be doing it for similar reasons. :)

As someone who has never experienced -7 degrees, I can see why Hanson would worry about their fans being out in those conditions. But, as you say, you're used to it because you live with it. So for those of you who feel it's nothing unusual, I think it's awesome that you're going ahead with the walk.

But I seriously hope everyone takes Hanson's wishes into account with regards to camping out! One mile of walking is a totally different thing to an entire night outside.

Yeah! I understand that Hanson wouldn't want to do it for their own health!

And I hope nobody camps out either. As you said there's a huge difference between walking and staying still (sleeping) in the cold. So unless someone has some kind of "professional" experience in winter camping (people in the army do it) I wouldn't recommend it.

It was from an article called Peter Robinson VS Taylor From Hanson. A kind fan over at h.net typed it up for those of us who only knew about it from the quotes that were made into icons, but never got to read the whole thing. :)

-7 is a laugh. The other night it was -26 with the wind chill in ottawa and I didn't have a hat on or anything. Mind you, that was crazy stupid of me. BUT seriously -7 is nothing to worry about. However, there is this insane amount of snow that bothers me. A 1 mile walk is going to feel hard with the snow, but totally worth the while.

I shall be walking tomorrow!

Have fun on the walk tomorrow! I really freaking wish I could go, but I can't due to stupid medical reasons. I will be at the concert though; told my mom last week that I'd have to be dead to miss it, or lying in a hospital bed in restraints. I spent $92+ on tickets, I'm going. :P

Well, I for one think that's awesome! The point of the walk is to see what it's like to be uncomfortable or worse off than you are now. As long as these guys bundle up, I'm sure a mile walk wouldn't kill them!

Some fans have been showing up to these Walks in Canada/Buffalo in MINI SKIRTS and sweaters. A lot of them just don't dress warmly enough. I agree, a wind chill of -14C isn't even that cold at all. But I bet the guys are worried about getting sick too. I'm sure being on tour is exhausting for them so their immune systems probably aren't the strongest. Taylor's voice sounded REALLY bad during a radio interview the morning of Hamilton when they sang Great Divide. I'm guessing they just sincerely want everyone to stay healthy.

It was one thing that people wanted to do the walks on the shows where hanson couldn't be there because Isaac was sick or whatever, but I think it's stupid for the fans to do the walk anyway knowing the reason that Hanson canceled it was out of concern for the fans' well being. It's ridiculous.

I seriously don't understand how it for the fans well being. I am sure it is for the guys and that is sooo understandable. No one wants them sick. Generally the people at this walk are going to be use to this weather. -7 is a nice day. But obviously if you are not use to it, it would bother you.

I think it's harsh to call what they're doing "stupid" and "ridiculous". They (and several people here) keep pointing out that the temperatures forecast for tomorrow are nothing to them. Hanson aren't used to it, but these fans are and they feel like the walk is worth while. Yes, it's nice for Hanson to be concerned for their fans, but if the fans feel more than capable of taking the walk in the forecasted conditions (and they clearly do) then I think that's great. :)

as I said in my previous comment.. most people who are going to the Ottawa concert are Canadians.. they are USED to -20C to -40C during winter. The weather for tomorrow is supposed to be -7...no snow, no rain.. so I don't see why Hanson are sooo worried about their fans. I understand they might be worried about their own health.. but really those who are going to do the walk anyways are probably smart enough to put on warm clothes! So I don't see how this is ridiculous.

Some people underestimate us Canadians (live in Ottawa myself), cos we're so used to these winters that we know how to dress properly. However, there are the few people that will go out in mini-skirts and a spring like jacket in weather like this. (Was coming back from a Sens game a few weeks ago and some girls got off the bus wearing mini-skirts and boots... must've been -10'C with the windchill, at LEAST) I guess they're erring on the side of caution but I do hope people go out and at least promote what Hanson are trying to raise awareness for. Even if Hanson aren't there, the fans are spreading the word.

It's been a LOT colder here in Ottawa (native Canadian, spent five years out West and walked to school in the winter in snowstorms and -55'C weather... yanno, the life of a Canuck) but at the same time, no one was really expecting the fourteen inches of snow that got dumped on us in less than 24 hours. -7'C might not be that cold but it's still possible to get sick very easily if ill dressed and add on the amount of snow on the ground and it getting slushy and gross, increases the chances of getting sick.

I don't think it's ridiculous to do the walk without Hanson, just providing that they dress warmly and appropriately. All the power to them, to be honest. I get why Hanson wouldn't want to do the walk (I was actually thinking over the weekend if they'd cancel it due to the really crappy weather we've had the past few days here) but if there's fans that want to really raise awareness for the cause that they're supporting, geez, well, more power to them. I'm sure if the weather was better, Hanson would be right out there, marching through the streets of Ottawa promoting this cause, but I can't blame them for cancelling it, I really can't.

I just arrived from the Bronson centre to check up on the walk. There are about 15 fans walking, and Hanson is bundled/locked into their RV and not moving. I just went in to check for a friend who wasn't there...

It's definitely NOT cold outside. It may appear cold to someone who is not used to this weather but this is candy - and miniskirts? People really wear miniskirts to shows in Canada in winter?

Everyone at the walk right now was dressed accordingly.
