Last night I made a journal for myself, using the instructions from this tutorial. For a first-time project, I think it went pretty well.

I was wondering if anyone has any tips for beginners? Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. Also, would it be possible to have the covers and the binding be one continuous piece? I'm assuming it's not a big deal, but my boyfriend thinks I should check to make sure I don't end up with a falling-apart mess.

This was a fun book to make and for some bizarre reason it still makes me chuckle when I look at it. It's perfecting binding, recycled papers. The paper was B5 but I folded it into quarters. I folded about 30 pieces of paper so maybe it has 120 pages. From the pen in the picture, you can see that the book isn't very big. But it is thick.

This is the smallest book I've ever made and the first I used a recycled flyer for La Boheme as a cover. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it - it's too small for me to use as a notebook and it's not the greatest book I've ever slapped together so I'm not going to give it away. Maybe I'll just look at it and laugh.

More information can be seen at Tedorigawa Bookmakers and at Tedorigawa Bookmakers.

I'm on a hunt for lined paper that I can use to make a book that's 5"x7"-ish. Does anyone know of a good site I could order some from, if any? I'd prefer something in the 50-60lbs range.

Hi all love all your stuff,  it has inspired me to make a few  wee note books (with out a cover, not got there yet)  I have an idea to print and bind a very small book and was thinking of using something like bible paper or something similar as there will be a lot of pages . Has any one experience of working with bible paper and where can i buy it in the UK? Or is there any other very thin quality paper for inkjet printing? thanks

Hi. My name is Nica, I'm new to this community. : )

Throughout my life I've always been obsessed with all sorts of books -- notebooks, children's books, novels (Jane Austen... FTW), blank journals, day planners, artist books... I never saw myself with the skills to make one. I'm a Graphic + Interactive Design major in Ringling College, so it was logical that I'd eventually end up binding a book. Before then I had done french folds and perfect binding, which is considered a cheat by many.

This is an old Time-Life book titled Ships. The purpose of the project is to re-design it and update it if deemed necessary. The project ran for two months, after which I was incredibly attached to both copies.

I stitched it and mixed up a bit of the 'English' and 'French' way to bind it, judging from what the teacher who did our demo said.

I hope you like my project!

Can I have links to the best ways to bind loose papers (as in individual sheets, not signatures) into a book? Thanks. :)

Hi, I'm a newbie to handmade books, but after making some single signature books I'd like to try something fancier. The problem comes with finding some supplies.

Does anyone know of some good resources in Australia for supplies?

I tried spotlight/lincraft and they had a wide range of pretty papers and thin card (like for greeting cards) but didn't seem to carry board thick enough for a hard cover, or bone folders. And while they had some nice embellishments, they were mostly scrapbooking ones or greeting card ones that came with predefined text or were event/holiday orientated or were very... girly.

I have an 11 yr old son who is showing interest in making some books (he loved making the single signature ones) and I want to encourage it but have found that a lot of stuff seems to be very feminine/gender neutral. I found some paper yesterday with some skateboarders/bikers on it, and a very small packet of embellishments that had a castle/wizard/spellbook in it, and there is some nice striped paper we found, but otherwise he thinks its all very girly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Does anyone have any sage advice regarding covering books in fabric?  Or is it just a matter of choosing a thick enough fabric and spreading the glue thin enough to prevent oozing?

I posted here a couple of weeks ago about my handmade photography books. I've had some people express interest in the way that they are made, so I put together a couple of videos of myself talking about them. Nothing fancy.

These were originally one video, but it was too long to upload to Youtube. So I divided into two parts.

part 1 - the black book from 2004/2005

part 2 - the white book, currently in progress

More of my photography (and these books) in my journal.
