Oookay! To those who want extensive movie spoilers, I've written up absolutely everything I could recall from the movie! It's a lot longer than I intended, but. ^^;
Check it out here!
And, my thoughts on the movie, with spoilers here too:
I loved it. Though I thought the first half was infinitely stronger than the second, which kind of surprised me...
You know how in the drama, the scenes with the OTP together were always rather scarce, and when they were together they were usually miserable anyway?
I really really loved the first half, because they were interacting with everyone, but they were happy. Even when they were fighting, it was so married-couple-ish and awesome! (The scene with them in the motel room with Tsukasa wanting Sexy Times was very possibly my favorite part except the wedding.) But when they got to the desert island, it weirdly didn't click for me.
Mostly? PUNCHING A BEAR IN THE FACE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THEY MIGHT AS WELL HAVE BEEN BEING CHASED AROUND THE ISLAND BY THE MONSTER FROM "LOST."
And the sad parts on the island needed to be much sadder, I think. It's not like I really enjoy seeing them in pain, but I felt like the tension on the island was really untapped: I thought the saddest, most intense scene was their fight on the boat in Hong Kong, with Tsukasa torn between F4 and Tsukushi. Both of them were so conflicted and it was great. But I was really shocked to find how I just didn't enjoy the story as much when it was just the OTP together alone all the time. I love the rest of F4, of course, but I never realized how completely necessary they are.
Also...the twist was lame. Epic lame. THE MAKINO FAMILY DOES NOT LEAVE THEIR DAUGHTER POSSIBLY STARVING AND DYING OF EXPOSURE AND HAVING TO PUNCH FRIGGING BEARS FOR OVER A MONTH FOR NO REAL REASON. I do not approve. The nice thing about Tsukushi's parents is that they WEREN'T crazed evil masterminds like CERTAIN OTHER MOTHERS.
Howeverrrr, the whole first half was serious perfection. Especially every single moment of Vegas. I am going to be dying of sadness when this leaves the theaters, because I don't know how I'll live without seeing Matsujun's face of SEXY TIMES ANTICIPATION WHILE WEARING HIS SPARKLY T-SHIRT THAT TOTES IMPRESSES THE LADIES on a regular basis.
AND OH THAT ENDING.
I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THAT KISS.
I ALMOST FORGIVE TSUKUSHI PUNCHING OUT A BEAR FOR THAT KISS. THAT WAS THE BEST J-DRAMA KISS EVER. I WAS REALLY WORRIED THERE. Because I LOVE the S1 kiss, because they look like they mean it, but of course it's not so much with the visibility. And the S2 kiss, while I appreciate the multiple angles, and while Tsukushi yanking on his scarf is cute, the kiss itself? Fail compared to the S1 one.
BUT THIS WAS AMAZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING.
Um yeah so...I wouldn't say this was overall as good as the drama, because I just felt the whole thing with the Makino family was too much to swallow. The thing about Hanadan, I thought in the drama, was I was willing to follow whatever epic cheese the storyline threw at me, because they never really screwed up the writing of the characters. Beauty pageant? No prob. Amnesia? Bring it! But once you start screwing with the characters, it kind of crumbles, and I was not happy with that. Though at least they weren't messing with Tsukushi/Tsukasa or F4, which is most important.
And I'm still going to see it a million times. I'm not sure if I'll find the twist better or more lame on the rewatch, we'll have to see.
.......DID I MENTION THE KISS WAS AWESOME?!
But even though I had a few misgivings with the story, I honestly can't remember the last time I had this much giddy fun watching something in the movie theater. My friend and I were just grinning at each other the whole day afterwards, saying how totally happy it made us, and how we could go five times for sure. (I might go more. XD) It wasn't 100% in terms of story quality, but the feeling of the Tsukushi/Tsukasa relationship was still 100%, and that's enough to make me happy overall!
Also, I have some photobook scans, and will work on uploading them tomorrow along with some magazine scans I haven't seen up yet.
