Filming in Los Angeles?
Since I found out about Hana Yori Dango filming in the US I signed up to recieve updates on filming in Downtown Los Angeles(I live in downtown and they film a lot of scenes of "New York City" down here). I just recieved this notice:

THE PRODUCTION COMPANY: Cosmo Space of America Co, LTD
WILL BE FILMING: Boys Over Flowers
UNDER PERMIT: F-212633
LOCATION: E. 4th St from Clarence St - Santa Fe Ave & E. 6th St from Santa Fe Ave - Clarence St
DATES: 2/23/08 - 2/28/08
HOURS: 6:30 A.M. - 6:00 P.M.
DESCRIPTION OF SCENE: Exterior establishing shots. Camera & tripod on sidewalk. No more than crew of 5. No generator.

Representative: NAME Go Egashira

I can forward the official Filming Notice if anyone wants better proof. Can anyone verify if this is in fact Hana Yori Dango? Was it named Boys Before Flowers in Vegas? Is that the Production company? Are they supposed to be filming somewhere else at this time? I will be going down there anyways.

i hear only Jun and Mao were going to be there out of the main cast. Did i get there names right? (the Tsukasa and Tsukushi actors?)

hmm.. I don't know. LA was never mentioned in the announcement right? Just Las Vegas and New York. They filmed the New York stuff IN NYC for season 2. If this is legit I wanna know 0-0 I don't wanna drive to Las Vegas, but an hour to LA is fine.

Wow that's totally news to me. That would be superb if they did film in downtown. I live around Marina del Rey, so that's about 20 mins away from me. I wish we could get their schedules to see when exactly who will be there. Mao and Jun may not even be present. Too bad none of my friends watch jdramas. It would be lonely to stalk Jun and Mao by myself! *sniff*

Oh wow, this is great news for the folks in LA! Thank you for posting this! :D

In a blurb that appeared in a Las Vegas publication they called the filming Hana Yori Dango. But they also included the name translated as Boys over Flowers in the blurb. Since the dates mentioned are so close to the dates of filming in Las Vegas and since I've never heard of another "Boys over Flowers", I would suspect this is indeed for Hana Yori Dango. *kya!*

Ah, I wish they'd come near where I am. *still hoping to catch the filming somehow* :)

I reread the info and caught the words "no more than a crew of 5" and "exterior establishing shots". Do you think they might be shooting with the cast in LV and having a small crew (minus cast members) shoot exterior shots of LA with with the hopes of pairing the exterior shots with indoor shots they've filmed to make it seem like they also went to LA? *wondering*

It seems a little strange to me that the crew would be no more than 5 but then again, I don't know that much about filming a movie...

Then again when they filmed some shots with Inoue Mao outdoors in NY for HYD 2, in the making of video, sometimes the crew didn't seem that big. *musing*

I hope this can be confirmed soon. *so curious*

Going to LA to take shots to make it seem like they went to LA instead of LV seems ridiculous. You go to Vegas so it looks like you went to Vegas. It's hard to replicate it with all the casinos and bright lights. However, you could be onto something and in the movie, they could be going to LV AND LA?

I hope some more info gets posted about this

Um, I did not mean to say that they are going to pass off all the LV scenes as being in LA. -_-;;; Of course their being in LV will be one of the settings in the movie.

What I meant was that they might have shot a few general scenes (in posh rooms etc) that could be paired with LA shots, kind of like when a movie shoots in a studio which doubles as having been at the actual site.

That was just some general speculation about if they would actually be filming in LA and what they might be doing. Since it was merely speculation and musing, feel free to ignore if you like. :)

I also hope it gets confirmed, it would be great to pass on the info to the LA fans. ^_^

no, i think, since the car they were "driving" in Vegas was covered in dust, i'm taking a guess that tsukasa and tsukushi are to be driving from LA to Vegas? or something like that, i'm just taking a guess.

I think that is a good guess about what the characters might be doing in the movie.

I wanted to clarify again that what I was referring to above was how the scenes might be being filmed and not the actual settings that will appear in the film itself. ^^

anyways, i checked it out today. according to the security guards there, they aren't filming until monday. everything's set up and covered with sheets to stop the rain from getting to it.


i'm gonna try to go next week, but i'm not sure.

Where did you see the people? Were you sure it was for HYD? I wandered all over where they were supposed to be filming, but found no clues to it. I saw three people under the bridge, but it looked like some guys just filming some car scene with a normal haldheld camcorder. Later I saw some staff also under the bridge. I didn't ask them about what they were doing though. It was all Americans. I checked out all of the FilmLA papers around the area, but I didn't see a single one for "Boys Before Flowers". That was around 6th and Santa Fe. Then at 4th and Clarence, there was nothing. They were setting up for a huge shoot around that area, but according to the signs it looked like it was "loxcnter".

it was the huge set on 4th and clarence; it crosses over to anderson and 6th as well.

we talked to the security guard, and asked him if they were filming a japanese movie there. he said not until monday.

I hope we'll get a confirmation on this! I actually just drove to Vegas on Tues and saw Jun, Mao, and Natsuki... I don't mind to see them again. L.A. is only an hour from my house. =)

Hopefully everyone keeps checking the thread. Here's a picture of the notice:

If anyone wants me to forward the actual e-mail to them please send me a message on LJ with your e-mail and I will send it out.

There are phone numbers on the bottom of the notice. Please not everyone try to call. Maybe one or two people should be designated to call. I haven't called yet. The notice is meant to alert people who live in the area that a filming will be taking place. Sometimes this can be disrupting to the people in the area. They may close businesses, block streets, or sidewalks. Any calls you make should probably be more along the lines of what sort of production is going on.

A note about this area of downtown. It's mostly a warehouse type of area. They also appear to be filming at the 6th St. Bridge. It is possible that they plan to film as if this is LV. Like someone pointed out...it says it's only a crew of 5..which it might mean they are only filming scenes without the actors =(

I'll still be out there. If anyone else is planning on going message me and maybe we can meet up in search of the filming. If things aren't what we expected we can go down to Little Tokyo and do something there.

I think it is just some exterior shots. For Los Angeles, but they did the inside filming in Las Vegas. Cuz' Tsubaki lives in LA remember? But it so busy in LA maybe they couldn't get the time to film booked. No cast members for sure. 5 people is enough for a two camera men, two assistants and a translator. Actors need stylists and make-up artists.

I agree. If there are to film with five people, it most likely will be street and buildings that they will incorporate with other scenes (which may or may not be the ones from Vegas). They might even incorporate those shots with interior "western looking" lofts/buildings in Japan due to sheer time/budget/availability purposes.

I drove around little Tokyo today and up and down clarence st and santa fe ave on 4th street and didn't see anyone!!! so it's probably a no-go... boooo
