I don't remember the fellow's name, but the Cubana Coffee I had on Suday, February 17th, was great. Enought to make my eye's cross and THAT is a feat. If you know who was on duty Sunday, would you let him know it was great, please?

Okay, folks, it's been a long time since we've had one, so I'm calling a Livejournal Meetup for this Friday, June 16th, 7 PM at the Gypsy Coffeehouse, 303 N. Cincinnati (just north of the Spaghetti Warehouse).
Come on down and introduce youself to the other folks on LiveJournal. The Gypsy has places to sit inside and outside so we can just sit and talk and maybe make some new friends. See you there! (Cross-posted to tulsatime)

Does anyone know a place in town where I can pick up different tips? Or know of anyone I can hook up w to show me the ropes? If so please drop me a line.
Thanks. Laters...

Oh here are my results from the depression test that was posted. I've been diagnosed as dysthymic previously, though this test seems pretty amplified to me. I'll be curious to see what others have to say about it....

Hello, everybody...
I wanted to let you know about a huge event coming up at the Gypsy Coffee House on April 1st.
(By the way, even though it's on April Fool's Day, I promise this is not a joke.)
---------- Saturday, April 1st, 2006 at the Gypsy Coffee House DJ Badger and DJ TMJ present BIKINI POP FIASCO Another kickass BIKINI DANCE PARTY from the same sick freaks who brought you RETRO WITHOUT SHAME and MARY-KATE AND ASHLEY TURN 18 ---------- |
This is going to be the biggest and most "charmingly seductive" party (ha!) that the Gypsy has had since last July's "Retro Without Shame" event... and both TMJ and I are really looking forward to it. The music will range from 1980s tracks up through modern-age pop fluff. A little bit of it will be obscure, but the majority will be "recognizable" tunes. Of course, there will be plenty of extremely rare remixes played. The music could range from that of Siouxsie and the Banshees to Gwen Stefani. From Deee-Lite to the White Stripes. From New Order to the Killers, from Technotronic to the Bloodhound Gang, from the Beastie Boys to the Black Eyed Peas. And, of course, there will be some Depeche Mode. :) Some pop, some techno, some trance... but all of it will be dance music. TMJ and I have been talking a lot about the potential track listing, and it looks like this party's going to be a doozy. The main event on April 1st will begin at 9:00 PM. That's when the house lights will go down and my set will begin - running until about 2:00 AM. However, for those of you who would like to experience something special beforehand, TMJ will be doing a "seductive [mainly] downtempo warm-up set" from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM, to kind of "set the mood." Plus, I have even more good news... I have added numerous new light effects to our already colossal light effects system, so this event will be even more visually stunning than the last Gypsy events that we've DJed. Now, I know what a lot of you may be thinking... "BUT BADGER, APRIL 1st is when teh DEATH CAB show is!" Unfortunately, I didn't know about the Death Cab for Cutie show until after I'd already scheduled Bikini Pop Fiasco. However, it is my understanding that the Death Cab show sold out in under 24 hours, so hopefully we'll still get a lot of people. Plus, considering how late our party is scheduled to last, hopefully word of Bikini Pop Fiasco will spread enough that there will be some "after-party" crowds wandering in from after the Death Cab show. The last Gypsy/Badger party, "Retro Without Shame," was an absolute blast, but this time around I want it to be even bigger. I want to have such a massive crowd that we blow that one completely out of the water. I would be absolutely thrilled to be playing to a thoroughly packed house of waving, gyrating bodies - just a sea of partygoers having a great time. So, I cordially invite you all to attend, and bring as many friends as you want! Although the Gypsy is usually an "all-ages" place, for a number of reasons, this party is only meant for individuals ages 18 AND OVER. There is NO COVER CHARGE... though the Gypsy does request a minimum $2.00 food/drink purchase, which is still dirt cheap. And remember... You don't need to wear a bikini! You just need to show up and enjoy yourselves. Please check out the Website, and if you have any questions, let me know. Thanks! DJ Badger ---------- Bikinis are optional, but encouraged. For more explicit info, please visit the Bikini Pop Fiasco subsite at djbadger.com. Thanks! ---------- | <table>

I lost my bear claw necklace with a turcoise stone somewhere in December. The last place I saw it I was wearing it at the coffie house. If anyone has seen it please email me at malkavsnyx @ gmail.com. It was one of the last gifts from my Grandfather and I'd like to get it back. Thanks

Hey...YOU!!! Queen's Gambit's fans in the vicinity...we've set up a very last minute performance tomorrow night at the Gypsy!
Chris J., Erin's sweetie and mad geni, er, head of Commedia Sans Arte, whom whose of you from OKRF know, had the brilliant idea to get in a public performance with Erin before KC so she can get the first-time jitters out of the way.
So QUEEN'S GAMBIT will be playing at the Gypsy, starting at 8:30ish, and it's at the corner of Cincinati and Cameron...so, y'all please come, ya hear?
....I can't believe I just said that...
OH, yes and would somebody please post this to the Gypsy Coffee LJ group and I'll post it to the QG yahoo group, ok?
It's sounding good in rehearsal!

Well, I am not entirely sure how I came upon this group, but here I am =) I haven't been to the Gypsy in FAR too long (two years I think?), but it used to be a second home to me and my friends. I miss it, but my friends nowadays are the type that won't go hang out at a coffee house all night...how sad! Once I get settled somewhere in life, I will be back =)
So for those of you that still hang out around there, I am looking for someone...an old friend that I have lost contact with, and who knows where he is or what he is doing now! Does anyone know Curt Cox? An artistic little piano player, amazing guy? He moves through life so quickly and I just couldn't keep up with him.
Anyone out there that used to come around back in like 2000 remember me? Questions questions =) I am sorry, I'm new to this whole livejournal business, so I hope I haven't done anything to offend.

This is frustrating. And there are options.
Gypsy could play local artists, unsigned artists, open source audio over the speakers. There are plenty of options to get away from playing oldies radio. Would management consider this possibility?
http://www.archive.org/audio/netlabels.php http://magnatune.com/ http://www.dmusic.com/ http://www.opsound.org/opsound.html
My own site: http://www.novachild.com
And there are dozens of local artists probably willing to get involved. And dozens of web sites on this very topic (I'll post them as I find them).
As a musician, I loathe ASCAP/BMI, but there are better ways of dealing with their bully tactics than just caving in. Support unsigned artists, get written letters of approval from specific labels (warp, discord etc). Use this as an opportunity to support open source ideology and unsigned artists.
If I can be of any help in this, let me know.
Greetings,
I'm the new Organizer for "Arise and Evoke," a Poetry Meetup for the Tulsa area. This is an official invitation for you to help build a creative community of poets and artists around the meetup concept.
Our March Meetup will be at Gypsy, coinciding with the 3rd Tuesday Open Mic night (March 15). Looking for a volunteer to host the meetup, as well as poets and other creative persons to meet with us. This meetup is noncommittal, meaning we will possibly meet in other venues in the future and eventually deciding on a place that best suits the group as a whole.
I look forward to seeing you there, and I welcome any feedback.
