I deleted the weed post because I consider it trolling. It was deliberately inflammatory as the poster did not seem at all interested in the advice she was getting for the health of her pig. It also was somewhat inappropriate for community, given that the community is open to members of all ages. No, I'm not the DEA or Nancy Reagan, but there is absolutely no need for that in this community. In case anyone has a GENUINE question about this, let me just state for the record that it is most likely a bad idea to smoke up (or smoke anything) around your pig. I really don't care if you all agree or disagree with that, but that's is all that is going to be said on the subject in this community because I don't want people discussing drugs in this community. As far as this community is concerned, do whatever you want with your body, but don't impose it on your pet, child, or anyone else who has no power to protect themselves.
I really hope this conversation is finished because frankly it's absolutely ridiculous. While the original poster bears the brunt of the responsibility for this, the 173 comments, many of which were no more coherent than name-caling were ridiculous as well. Let's not dignify trolling by stooping to the level of trolls.

I offered clear, rational advice, and was attacked because of it. I defended my position vigorously, but there were simpletons, like her, who decided that it was ok to smoke marijuana around guinea pigs.
Please try to show a little courtesy in the future, as I believe deliberatley insulting another member violates the rules of this community.

In fact you hyperbolized and said that occasionally smoking pot in the same room as her animal was abusive, and potentially fatal.

Nobody, that I saw, advocated or agreed with the practice of smoking (anything) around small animals. Perhaps you saw differently?

A personal attack is when you: 1. comment on a persons appearence, religion, mental state, or piggies in a deragatory manner 2. Use foul language not in context at the person 3. I didn't get involved in the discussion at all.

That said, I don't think it was trolling and I don't think the topic was inappropriate. My personal opinion. However, I think some people need to be more careful with their words, exercise some restraint instead of getting into flame wars.

However, you are the mod, and mods have their job to do, as they see fit, so it's your call.

I appreciate your concern and understand that the appropriateness of the subject MAY be somewhat ambiguous, but I had to make a decision and I think I made the right one. The OP made it pretty clear that this wasn't a genuine question...she was not at all interested in what other communities members had to say. I did want to address the genuine question, so I briefly spoke to it in my post, but I see no need to discuss it further in this community. Beyond what has been said about piggies' lungs being weak, there is no need to debate weed in this community.

Again, I do appreciate the input, and looking at your user info you are clearly an adult capable of rationally discussing the issue. But I really don't want this to be a community in which 13 year old guinea pig owners are bombarded with 173 comments on the pros and cons of smoking weed around their pigs.

I hope you understand my decision because I do not want to seem like a tyrannical or overbearing mod. But the discussion was unproductive and in my opinion disingenuous in its intent, and I felt obligated to jump in.

As I tried to say, I do understand the role of mods :) And yes, the issue of protecting younglings I also understand. So until there's a PG-13 guinea pig community... you do your thing.

I did not say I doubted the validity of the OP's pig ownership. I said that I considered the post trolling in that it was deliberately inflammatory and clearly not receptive to discussion or advice.

I think it is a good idea to ban her too, I only ever replied saying it was a bad idea and whilst she can do what she wants to herself as I'm not opposed to smoking or anything whilst I don;t do it myself, I think she should not do it around her pig at all and that it was very irresponsible and cruel. She replied to my question of why have a pig if you want to hurt it like so:

"because I can"

So trolling? Yes! I really fear for the lives of her poor pigs.

I believe for a while she was actually trying to answer everyone's comments seriously, but then she got overwhelmed by the amount of negative comments and just started replying sarcastically.

i specifically recall her saying 'i don't value my pigs life as much as you do' and that she got one because 'she can'. that made me blow my top off.

anyhoo enough of that. deletion is great & resume normal schedule ;)
