I posted this on my own journal, and then realized that THIS crowd would surely not only 'get' the reference, but understand why I am most amused.

Enjoy!!

Hi there- I hardly ever post here anymore, but I still read all of your posts, and I was thinking some of you guys might be able to help me with this. I found this blue taffeta and velvet Victorian bustle dress at an antique store (which amazingly fits!) and I need some help dating it. From what I have seen online and the bustle I am guessing it is from about 1870?

Thanks!

Renovated church home in Kyloe, Northumberland - complete with graveyard. It's amusing reading the comments about how "creepy" it is - I'll bet it will be more appreciated here!

I hope people won't mind me promoting my own work, but I thought this might be of interest to kindred souls here.  My novel, The Desperate Ones, is now available in paperback and download.  It is quite dark and spooky and there are lots of elaborate clothes in book!

The Desperate Ones is a genre-crossing, renegade novel: part cyberpunk, part fairy tale, part poetic apocalypse.

Thought I'd just let you guys know that at Monster Mania (which in Cherry Hill, NJ There will be an ADDAMS FAMILY REUNION! (Gomez. Wednesday. Cousin Itt.) I'll also be vending my hats there as well. I thought it'd be relevant to any gothroyalty members who were local and wanted to meet them. I know Addams Family was one of my favorite shows when I was young, and it still is!
Hope all is well with everyone out there in this community! I've not been on a lot as I've been busy with work, freelancing and getting this hat business off the ground. I'd love to hear what everyone else has been up to!

Do such things even exist, anymore? I'm looking for gothy mailing lists/forums for SF, L.A., Portland (OR), and NYC. Yes, this is all about promoting the Gothic Charm School book tour. ::grin::

So! Anyone have any leads or suggestions? Are there better ways to get the word out to the Goths in those cities?

Well, my essay didn't get a First.  It wasn't far off (and only one person scored that high), but it has broken my winning streak, which sucks.  Still, hopefully people here will find it interesting enough to read, and seeing as I had a little help from here, I feel that I should give something back by posting it.  I've taken out the pics and Vox Pops, mostly because it's too early in the day to be screwing around with layout.

New Rocks and leather trenchcoats, faux Victorian dresses mixed with coffin handbags and animated t-shirts with goggles hanging from the neck.  It could only be goth.

But what was once a thriving and highly visible subculture it now barely noticeable.  Camden, once known as a place for the darkly inclined to pick up new clothes, get body modification and browse CDs is now filled with tourists who come to gawk and take pictures of those few people there to shop.  Staff in dark clothes with brightly dyed hair have been replaced by bored Asians putting on the hard sell to whoever walks past.

My first self-published works are now available, starting with three Goth interview books and my Goth gig review collection, primarily featuring work from the 80’s, concerning classic bands. I have also done Author’s Editions of my Gothic Rock Black Book and Gothic Rock books, so both are finally back in print, and expanded. These books contain hundreds of previously unpublished photos. Extensive details behind the cut.
