Hey, Colorado Voters! [Oct. 15th, 2008|09:46 am]

[mood | pissed off]

Many of my fellow Coloradoans have heard about Mike Coffman's shady dealings surrounding the upcoming election. Well, guess what? I have discovered that some of the new voters I registered this year are not showing up on the rolls.

Goddammit.

Everybody, please make sure you are registered. Tell others to do the same. Here is the link:

Fighting Back [Sep. 10th, 2008|04:55 pm]

lolo_wilderkind
I am disgusted by the GOP's tactics as of late--it's had me depressed. Well, no more; I will not take this shit lying down; I am empowering myself to keep the message of change alive.

And so, I plan to record my efforts and activities election-related until the big day.
Today:

On Defense: I showed a video of McCain saying "lipstick on a pig" while talking about Sen. Clinton's policies to everyone at work.

On Offense: I registered three new (pro-Obama) voters today, coworkers all.

I'm making a difference, goddammit. I'm active and I'm informed. And I'm willing to shout down anyone who's got the wrong information. Suck my dick, Karl Rove.

It's easy to write a letter to the Governor ... [Sep. 8th, 2008|10:41 pm]

[mood | angry]

... and here's why you should.

Dear Gov. Ritter,

It is my understanding that the Secretary of State's office has recently conducted an unprecendented purge of registered voters, removing fully one-fifth of voters registered in Colorado from the rolls. These voters are overwhelmingly low-income and minority voters who are likely to vote Democratic. With Colorado being a "swing state" in an election year, the timing of this move makes it difficult to believe that it is not a partisan move by Republican Secretary of State Coffman to move the state's electoral votes into the Republican column in November. As a Democrat, a veteran, a Coloradoan, and an American, I urge you to ensure that the upcoming election gives a fair voice to all the voters of our great state.

sincerely,
Daniel Dvorkin

It's not just Colorado, of course; Florida, Ohio, and New Mexico are other states notably undergoing such purges. Now, what do all these states have in common? Hmmm, let me think ...

Why we need unions [Sep. 4th, 2008|10:05 am]

This may be the single best argument I've ever read for the place of unions in the modern economy.

"[M]y employer has several floors of lawyers -- how many do I have?" Bingo.

Biden Time [Aug. 23rd, 2008|09:18 am]

etcet
I'm basically agreeing with [info]flemco on his selection as Veep. However, I can see some of the reasoning.

1. He's going to eat Mitt Romney's lunch in the debates
2. He's generally recognized as having a good bit of foreign policy experience, which is one of Obama's weaker areas

Basically, folks who were strongly or moderately pro-Obama won't be put off by his selection; from an electability standpoint, Biden's presence appeals to folks that weren't already on board.

Isn't it about time to dust this community off? Now that half the country has had a crack at the primaries and most of the candidates have dropped out, I guess it's probably time to think about politics again. Of course, here in Pennsylvania, we hold our primaries like two days before the general...

Extras casting - this Sunday! + DJ N3UBOT [Jun. 2nd, 2007|12:39 pm]

sanctuary_ri
This Sunday at Sanctuary in Providence, in addition to DJ N3UBOT (whose triphop, downtempo, and power electronic sonic goodness you are surely eagerly anticipating:), we just found out that we'll be getting a visit from a casting director for a movie that's being filmed this month in Providence.

They need goth extras, mostly for scenes being filmed this week, and now they know where to find them. So if you want to be in a movie... come to Sanctuary this Sunday and ask for the casting director! (MySpace/webpage for the movie should be forthcoming... check myspace.com/sanctuary_ri for more details, as we'll put them there once we get them.)

An idea for this group -- email forward response resource [Feb. 21st, 2007|09:37 am]

marchenland
[mood |thoughtful]

Hi, everyone!

I had a mini-brainstorm this morning, and wondered if this group would be a good place for an experiment.

My sister is as right-wing as I am left, and so I am the unhappy recipient of many an email forward that is designed to rile me up against my peers. Instead, of course, they tend to rile me up against my sister. My current method is to count to 1000 or so, then send her back an evenly written email in which I calmly dismiss her points with actual research, then follow up with a pleasant "how things are in my life" part. My goal is to be mild and loving, without backing down that I believe differently from her.

Since these emails tend to be forwards and lots of people get them, it occurred to me that it would be nice and helpful to collect "talking points" against them, when possible, to help each other address the content (if we choose to).So, we could post an email forward (under a cut, preferably, I think), and then we could comment on the parts of it -- what's true, what's misleading, what's blatantly false, and links to a Snopes page or other resources. We could even post our own responses as comments.

Does this sound useful? Or has it already been done elsewhere, to better effect?

Election Thievery 101 [Nov. 3rd, 2006|07:31 am]

pkbarbiedoll
So did anyone see the HBO documentary on Diebold last night?

Concerns are already mounting in Texas and Arkansas that votes are being flipped in early 2006 voting.

In fact, Diebold machines have had security issues for several years now.  So many municipalities conclude that Diebold machines are not fit for elections.

Here is video of IT professionals hacking the Diebold Accuvote machines (which are used here in Georgia):

And a Fox News expose on Diebold voting machines (and how easily they can be tampered with):

So is anyone else concerned that their vote may not be accurately represented in the final tally next Tuesday?
