MusicDish Network started the year with a new push focused on generating airplay for its artists through podcasters. Americana-rock artist Amy Speace led the charge with plays on four different podcast shows last month. Her upcoming album "The Killer In Me" has been described by John Platt, host of WFUV's "The Sunday Breakfast", as "a collection of alt-country gems, a little dark around the edges."

I had forgotten about the Painted Saints and recently listened to the first cd...then checked the myspace page...then ordered the latest cd "the bricks might breathe again"...
good god i can't get the thing out of my cd player...whichever one that happens to be. it reminds me of early Denver Gentlemen and early 16 Horsepower and maybe the Black Heart Procession. this is an amazing cd that i think anyone here would certainly appreciate.

Not sure if she's been posted about here before, but if you get a chance, you should really check out Izzy Cox from Austin. I just saw her twice on her recent two-month tour of the Southeast/East Coast/Midwest and was absolutely floored by her voice, songs, and character.
The title pretty much says it all: "Americana Outlaw Murder Ballad Queen". I am sure that sounds at least vaguely interesting to you since you're in this community, so I recommend highly that you check out her MySpace, get her music, and see her perform next time she's in your town!

Hello folks,
Sorry I haven't been around much, but I'm here to deliver unto you some of the new music I ran into.

There's a good blurb about him there. Apparently, the man is 79 year old (in 2005) and just made his debut album called 'Saw Mill Man', which is pretty amazing. It reminds me a lot of the newer Johnny Cash 'American Recordings' stuff. Dark, simplistic, and country.

Also, Steve Earle's last album was sort of iffy, in my opinion (as tends to happen when someone falls in love and then feels the need to write about it). But there were still some pretty amazing tracks from that album. So I uploaded one of them just so you know Steve Earle can still be awesome.

In 'Searching for the Wrong Eyed Jesus', Jim White demonstrates this great analogy regarding both growing up in a small town and being an outsider. Whole eating an ice cream cone, he pushes down the ice cream with his palm, causing much of it to be pushed outside the cone. His hand represented the pressure of being squeezed into a small town (cone), and all the ice cream being pushed to the outside (only to be eaten up) represented the artists,the crimnals, the religious fantatics, all the outsider groups.
This is by no means an overly complicated analogy, but for some reason it always really resonated with me. Have anyone ever heard this before from any other source. Did Jim White get this from somewhere? I'd really love to hear more.
