Hugh Laurie is set to star in a movie about an older man who falls for a friend's daughter — and the cradle he's robbing may be Leighton Meester's.
Laurie is in talks to star in Oranges, one of this year's most buzzed-about scripts, according to the LA Times. The female role is likely to fall either to Miss Mees or to Mila Kunis of That '70s Show. Come on, Mila's great and all, but she's mostly done comedy. Playing a relationship that is 100% wrong yet totally hot? We're pretty sure Leighton can handle that.

( Part II )

Good thing Chace Crawford (Nate) didn't go into pro sports — when he played football this weekend, he got beat by a Brit and a girl.
Chace played for the blue team in Saturday's DirecTV Celebrity Bowl, while Ed Westwick (Chuck) and Jessica Szohr (Vanessa) led the opposing white team to victory. (We didn't see the game, so we're assuming that Ed and Jess were the architects of that 21-14 win, and not, say, their teammate, former Dallas Cowboy Daryl Johnston.)
Chace probably wasn't too broken up about the loss — he was pretty stoked for that other game that was happening this weekend. The Super Bowl doesn't mean much to us since there are no primetime soap stars in it that we know of, but sports fan Chace was thrilled to attend the big game, he told Zap2it.
Zap2it: Which is your team?
Chace Crawford: Well, they asked me to play in it, so I figured, why not? (big laugh) The Dallas Cowboys are my team. I'm kind of rooting for the Saints, though; I'm kind of pulling for those Saints.
Zap2it: Is that because Louisiana is next door to Texas?
Chace: Yeah, exactly! It's gotta happen some day. Should be a good game. Very good seats this year, so I'm pumped. I love my football.
Zap2it: Did you ever dream of being a quarterback?
Chace: Oh, absolutely. I started playing when I was nine. I played quarterback, actually, for a bunch of years. Then I got into golf and quit football, and I came back to football.
And then he got beat by his TV ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend who thinks football means soccer. Finally, he returned to his true calling: shaking his bangs out of his eyes on TV.

Apparently THE CW is deep in contracts negotiations and is finalizing the paperwork for renewing :
Gossip Girl ,90210 ,Smallville ,Supernatural , ANTM and The Vampire Diaries for next season.
Expect official renewal annoucements for the above shows later this month.
One Tree Hill: There are some messy contracts and negotations and it could go either way but even if renewed it will likely have budget cuts and maybe lose more cast members and producers. SOAPNET has the option of renewing it if the CW were to cancel it.
Life Unexpected: The CW is very happy with it's performance so far but is afraid to made a "Southland" decision so they're waiting for more data but it
is leaning heavily on renewal. However it is likely to be back midseason.
Melrose Place: decision will be made in May but baring a miracle don't expect it back. Though the CW is pleased with it's recent rerun ratings' slight improvement and there is some international interest in the show.

People readers were asked which young celebs should date the recently split Taylors (Swift and Lautner) next. And look who came out on top — not one, but two GG stars: Chace Crawford for the country chick and Taylor Momsen for the Twilight eye candy.
As for Chace, doesn't he have like, 4 years (and several levels of general sex appeal) on T. Swift? Granted, we've seen bigger age gaps, but we don't see this matchup at all. While more age appropriate, we're pretty sure T-Mom was only chosen for some residual 'Aww, it's so cute that our names match' gimmick. But Lautner's probably had enough of that by now, and TayTay's surly attitude and grungy appearance are all wrong for this clean-cut nice guy. She'd eat that boy up!

Penn Badgley: From The Upper East Side to Wonderland
Penn Badgley heats up the pages in a spread for the February/March issue of Wonderland magazine, on newsstands in the UK tomorrow (February 5).
The 23-year-old actor spoke about fan hysteria and musicians he looks up to. Check it:
On Gossip Girl craziness: “I remember the first time we did a Gossip Girl fan event and about 600 people showed up. And they were all screaming. How do you not let something like that go to your head? The answer is that you just can’t. The first two seasons, I was definitely into it. I admit it. It was an interesting thing to be a part of. Not just seeing yourself on billboards, and getting invited to all these parties, and whatever, but the weirder aspects, too, they were interesting to explore.”
“But now I’m sort of over the whole thing. I don’t resent the attention, but I don’t necessarily invite it, either. I think it’s when people do that – when they become so obsessed with their public image that they don’t feel like themselves when they’re out of the spotlight – that’s when they crack-up.”
