Google and Livejournal
Hi, I just sold my soul to Google at around 12 midnight today (I registered for Gmail, actually). I just wanted to ask about what Yahoo's going to do as far as Google/Gmail/Talk is concerned. Knowing that you can add your sn from Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ, and Jabber to your userinfo (and only the 1st, 3rd, and 4th allow for you to add contacts immediately to your messenger), I'm wondering if LJ is going to add Google to this particular mix. However, I'm certain that LJ will be reluctant to do so since Google owns Blogspot, its main competitor. Eh, just mentioning a few things. I'll x-post this for as wide a response as possible. Thanks. | | Saturday, September 3rd, 2005 | 9:00 am [webwormx]

Google Talk does not yet have a chat room feature, but a clever developer created a bot that simulates a chat room. Just add "conferencebot@gmail.com" to your buddy list. Type ")help" to see the possible commands. More info on the bot, including source code, and a list of all chat bots that people are running at http://coders.meta.net.nz/~perry/jabber/confbot.php | | Tuesday, August 30th, 2005 | 6:50 pm [infinitevoid]

FYI: I just sent the following bug report to Google. (through their Suggest a Feature page.) I couldn't find out where to submit a bug for Google Talk, so I'll type it here and let you file it. ;) I had my mother download Google Talk so we could use the voice chat feature. I unknowingly was logged in via both my OSX laptop (with Adium) and my Windows PC. When she requsted to add me, the notification popped up in Adium, and I accepted it. But she didn't appear in the gtalk list. So, I shut down both applications, and started up only gtalk. She still wasn't showing up, so I requested to add her. She accepted, and appeared on my list as online for a couple seconds, then appeared to go offline again. Finally, I fixed the problem by logging on with only Adium, removing her, logging on with only gtalk, then re-adding her. | | Saturday, August 27th, 2005 | 7:40 am [webwormx]

Spread the word about Google Talk. Join this community and tell your friends! It's time to send a message to other companies that make instant messaging programs that we won't stand for annoying advertising, bundled spyware, and poor design. There's no better way to do this than to switch to something far better and make your friends do so as well, that something is Google Talk! | | Wednesday, August 24th, 2005 | 9:49 am [webwormx]
