Mallomars for the WIN!

I finally caught the new Good Eats, Salty and Tasty episode. Basically about how salt and sweet elements compliment each other.

In the opening bit he takes "simple marshmallow cookies" also known as the world's most perfect cookie, Mallomars! He takes a torch, melts the chocolate and sprinkles Kosher salt all over them.

I needed to try it. After begging and being cute, Husband Mine actually went out to the store to get me a box of Mallomars and here, our adventures are described in detailed food porn pictures:

6 perfectly innocent Mallomars on a sheet pan.

One purple-girl with a propane torch in hand!

Melting! I'm melting... My world, by beautiful world!

Assaulting the situation.

I cannot tell you how delicious they are. On a good day I could eat half a box of these cookies straight. Add the salt and I could eat a couple boxes in one sitting. Yes, this contributes to transforming into a Mallomar, I know, but I stopped myself!

I am so going to serve these for St. Patrick's Day. Ok, they are in now way Irish, but they are TOTALLY DELICIOUS.

Hrm. Is there some way to tint the salt green? Then you can serve them for St. Patrick's Day! :)

Maybe some kind of sea salt that's naturally green?
I'm unsure how viable food coloring would be due to salt's natural affinity to totally get jiggy with any liquid in its immediate vicinity.

Powder food coloring. Voila, no problem.

I suspect that liquid food coloring + salt would be fine if dried out in the oven.

And this is why I could never make it as a chef. The simple, obvious things elude me.
