I've been remiss about posting the tracklisting for the great mix I got from [info]negihama several weeks ago, which is a testament to my extreme laziness and not the quality of the music!  I've been on a near-constant road trip for 11 months, so the timing was perfect for her theme-honoring creation:

The Road Trip:
  1. Wally Pleasant, "Out on the Road": How wonderfully unexpected!  Wally was a local semi-hero in East Lansing, MI during my college days at MSU.  I would occasionally see him playing at parties and gigging on street corners during art festivals, but it wasn't until years later that I really appreciated his geniusI've never heard this one, but it easily stands with his classics "I Was a Teenage Republican" and "The Day Ted Nugent Killed All the Animals".
  2. Band of Horses, "The Great Salt Lake": I honestly wish the rest of their debut was as awesome as "The Funeral" and this song, but it leaves me kind of cold.
  3. Cry Cry Cry, "Shades of Gray"
  4. The Be Good Tanyas, "Light Enough to Travel"
  5. The Magnetic Fields, "Famous"
  6. Primus, "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver" Primus get such a bad rap, but the great moments like this justify their entire bizarre existence
  7. Greg Brown, "Two Little Feet"
  8. Patty Griffin, "Long Ride Home"
  9. Mason Daring, "Return to Roan Inish"
  10. John Lurie, "Arriving at Kenny's"
  11. Levi Fuller, "Long Vermont Roads"
  12. Marvin Pontiac, "Small Car"
  13. Josh Ritter, "Lawrence, KS": Lawrence is a very special place for me, so I'm glad Mr. Ritter does right by my old home away from home.
  14. Kid Loco, "Traveler"
  15. United States of Electronica, "Vamos a la Playa": I found a $2.99 copy of their debut at Amoeba Music in Hollywood this week and was inspired to buy it because of this track.  Fun!
Thanks so much, E!  You've inspired much "for further review" with this mix.
