Since I didn't actually see this anywhere on the Gnusto page
From the Unabridged Encyclopedia Frobozzica:
Gnusto was the name of Berzio's pet dog. For a long time, while Berzio slaved over the spells in his laboratory, Gnusto was the only company he had. In 769 GUE, Berzio managed to create the first spell that would automatically write spells into spell books, allowing for their easy access. He named it after his faithful companion, Gnusto.
Of interesting note is this: When Berzio realized that his new GNUSTO spell worked, he still needed to find a way to get it into a spell book. He had the idea of making another GNUSTO spell, and then simply GNUSTOing the first one. This copied the first GNUSTO spell into the book, disintegrated the two spell scrolls, and opened a newer, easier age of magic for enchanters everywhere.
Note: For some reason, Gnusto does not appear in the abridged versions of the Encyclopdedia Frobozzica.
