I'm looking to put together a group to go kill all the undead we need to kill in the Desolace to move the Scarlet Monastery quest along. How about Sunday evening, around 19:00 EST?

I would classify yesterday's expedition as somewhat successful. Icelock, Skullcrushr, Gagelhfron, and Mirabel successfully managed to get to and take out Mekengineer Thurmaplug at the bottom of Gnomeregan, and complete all (or in Skullcrushr's case, most) of the intermediate quests along the way.
However, we did wipe once on the penultimate fight. The culprits, as last time, were the bomb-throwing mechanics. When four of them throw at once, whoever they hit pretty much dies. I think in the future, the opening salvo here may well be to sheep them, pull back to bring everyone else away from them, and then take out the rest of the mob before the mechanics come back, re-sheeping as necessary until we can take them out one at a time.
Anyway, if anyone else wants to run Gnomeregan (or any of the other dungeons the lead group has done), let me know and I'll try to put a party together. Otherwise, I'm going to solo for a while until I gather another quests for whatever the next instance is - which I suspect will be Scarlet Monastery.

There is a small chance I will drop in on the Gnomeregan run this Saturday but family plans are in flux.

OK, it looks like the best time is going to be Saturday at 17:00 EST. Currently, I think we're getting Rick, Libby, Alexx, and me. Perhaps Ailish if we can scare up a computer for her. We whiffed on the second last fight with three mages, so I suspect a fifth would be great, if we can get one.
Be seeing you!

I'd like to have a gnomeregan run sometime during our 21st Century party this Saturday, but wanted to check when people were available. Let me throw out 19:00 EST as a possible start time, as the party will have been going for 5 hours by then, and Alexx and I (and maybe Ailish if she brings a laptop or we find a third computer to run WoW here?) should be ready and able to do some hard-core instance-bashing.
Also remember that if we want to just get to the uber-boss, we can cut out a lot of tromping around by jumping off the big drops and floating down. It's good to be the mage!

Icelock (34?), Mirarose (38), and Skullcrushr (30) ventured into Gnomergan together last night. The party was small, but somewhat over-leveled, so were largely up to the challenges involved. There were several deaths (many of which would have been avoidable with proper use of Ice Block) and a few wipes. We actually got two successful uses out of the Jumper Cables!
We mostly didn't have voice comm working, but nonetheless evolved a new group strategy just by observing each other and gradually adapting our behavior. This one works very well against groups of mobs:
1) Everyone spread out in a line pointing towards the enemy.
2) Player in front puts up Mana Shield, runs forward, and uses Frost Nova to root everyone.
3) Front player retreats to the back of the line. Everyone casts Blizzard on the enemies.
4) After the first round of Blizzard-ing is over, the Frost Nova is breaking. As the enemies run forward, repeat from step 2 with the new front of the line.
Three repetitions of this cycle will kill vast quantities of elite enemies, with no single player taking very much damage. If we had had a full party of five, two repetitions would probably suffice.
This strategy failed us significantly in the penultimate fight. There were a *lot* of mobs, and they hit *very* hard. Most quests in this instance were rated 30-32, but the final boss quest is rated 35. I think that was an accurate indication of the sudden difficulty spike that the final chamber represents. It's possible that the Blizzard strategy might have worked there with 5 mid-30 Mages, but when the three of us tried, we wiped hard and fast. We were going to try a different approach, but it was getting late, so we ended up calling it a night after, on the way back, Icelock died and didn't respond to the Jumper Cables.
I think that final difficulty spike is a poor piece of game design. I feel like I have to level up some to face it, but the first 2/3 of the dungeon are already green to me. Any group that is capable of taking on the final boss is going to have to wade through vast quantities of little-to-no-XP trash to get to him :-( Still, Gnomish patriotism demands that we defeat him! So I think I'll try to solo quest to get up to 32 or so before the next attempt.

The trick to catching torches is to look at the ground and stay a little ahead of the little circular shadow. This might require you to turn up the graphics resolution so you can see it, so folks with slower machines definitely need to do this when the place is relatively empty - a good idea anyway since all those other people playing with fire just confuse the situation.

I'm putting together an expedition for the Stockades this Sunday at 19:30 EST. Level 25 or better should be fine. I'm also going to be around this evening for folks who need to get the stockade quest on the Dark Iron Wars chain.
I do have to warn folks that the Stockades is probably the least useful instance out there. Not very good loot, and a pretty flat layout. It is, after all, a jail. But after this, we get to start the reclamation of our beloved Gnomeregan, which is all good.

With the new patch, Alliance Mages can now get Teleport/Portal to Theramore at level 35, making access to Southern Kalimdor much more reasonable. (And Horde Nages can similarly get ports to Stonard.)

Wow, Rumpelstilt had a great weekend in the Auction House. Among other things, a Purple item I speculated on for ~250 gold sold for over 600. I just put a ton more money in the guild bank, so don't be shy about withdrawing some. And if another tab would be useful for organizational purposes, we can certainly afford it.

The Sunday run was quite successful. Firehazard, Gaghelfron, Mirarose, and Skullcrushr sowed destruction wherever we went, culminating in destroying an Old God's avatar. Even though there were only four of us, we were significantly overpowered for this instance - I don't think anyone even came close to dying this time around. The toughest part of the dungeon was the jumping section, which both Firehazard and Mirarose failed to clear the first time through - odd, since gnomes are natural leapers.
There was some good loot. Everyone got a wand that was rated 29.4 damage/second, I got a nifty pair of pants, and I think there was a useful vest out there as well. Good for the party, as the next instance, the Stockades, doesn't have very much.
Speaking of which, shall we do the Stockades next Sunday evening?
