Finally, one day in June, when she was working part time back at the bank in Samson and she was insanely pregnant, he walked into the bank and straight to her wicket. If she had taken her lunch break before that, she would have thrown up. She felt utterly mad because despite the anger and bitterness she felt bubbling to the surface all she could think was how good he looked in his blazer and dark dress pants.
“I need to open an account.”
Hanna bit back the acidic anger and took out an application form. “What type of account?”
“A savings account, please. I’m expecting a baby and wanted to make sure he or she will be taken care of.” He was smiling as though he expected for her to be happy, to be relieved. Instead, all she could think was he had some nerve.

Excited to finally be home at 25, Hanna feels as though she's ready for her "real life" to begin. She returns to find her father as Chief, her mother is principal of the small reserve school, and her childhood sweetheart, Daniel, wants her back. If only, though, her return had been as ideal as it sounded. Instead, her father is disappointed in her life choices, including her having a child with a married professor; her mother is overworked and depressed; and Daniel has a jealous ex-wife and a 3 year old daughter unsure of where she belongs.
