This is truly horrible...
As a mother and a gamer I don't know how anyone could react this way.....

That poor child. It was an accident that she pulled down the Xbox. There was no reason for the father to get that angry about it.

I know. I am going to give my daughter a hug when she wakes up from her nap. I would never react that way.....Oh it makes me sick....

What a terrible and tortured short life she lived. I hope she has peace now and he suffers for the rest of his days.

Just awful. That poor little girl.

How does anybody play 7 hours of video games a day?

When their life is awful enough that they need that much of an escape, or if they're particularly addicted or if they just have nothing better to do. I can frequently log 7 hours in a particularly slow day, myself.

i've often done this most of my life, i must say. i mean, school or work or hanging with friends take priority, of course. but if i have nothing to do i could easily play for the majority ofthe day.

and now, heck. i play 8 hours a day as my job, then go home and play a couple more a few nights a week.

Not that hard, actually. I've gotten so sucked into games that I haven't noticed eight to ten hours being played... my boyfriend and I played this one Xbox game, which name escapes me, straight one Thanksgiving.

It's no big deal. :)

I've done it when I 'm sick or find myself caught up with things for the day. Sometimes I don't realize I've played that long untill someone says something to me.

I don't think its hard every once in a while to get sucked into a game like that. I think its the 7 hours a day every day kinda thing that you really have to worry about.

Wow I'm surprised no one's tried to put a spin on this yet. Xbox crazed father? I think dude was pretty nuts before he even got an Xbox.

Either that or John Madden is no joke.

The fact that they felt the need to mention multiple time how much he played the XBOX is like them using bait to lure someone like Jack Thompson.

This disgusts me. There are two small children who have done similar things while I was playing (pushed the reset button to be specific), but it never once crossed my mind to beat them even once, let alone to death. God, I wish we could sterilize people at birth and then un-sterilize them once they've shown an ability not to be morons.

I always thought it was a good idea. You need to be a certain age to vote or drink, have to have a license to drive, but anyone can just pop out a baby and do whatever they want with it.

Well, I think people who are against birth control and abortion wonder how we would police t hat. I have no problem with either so I say "mandatory birth control until you can prove yourself". But then, some people don't believe that's ok so- :: shrug :: We end up at a stand still.

Actually the people who are against birth control and abortion would be more likely to support parenting licenses than people who are in favor of birth control and abortion, since the people who are against birth control and abortion also tend to be against premarital sex. Those who favor birth control and abortion usually consider themselves "pro-reproductive rights" and would see you revoking their "right" to have children whenever they want as an affront to their civil liberties.

kids don't realize what they do. hell, on thursday i had played final fantasy 3 on ds for 2 hours in an attempt to level up. my son came home from school, grabbed the ds, and popped the game out so he could play something else. i hadn't saved it, so i about died. but obviously, i didn't beat him. its just a game.

Had you left it sitting out and on, or did he grab it from your hands? If he grabbed it from your hands, I'd punish the crap out of him if I were you. xP

Seriously. An xbox is worth less than $100. Not worth anyone's life, let alone a little girl.

Where were those social workers? Apparently the parents were already under suspicion. How do you MISS a broken arm?

There are plenty of ways to kid proof electronics. You either put the system high enough that they can't reach it and then use wireless controllers, or you put something in front of the system so that grabby fingers can't get to it.

What was done was horrible...and the only justice I see is that when he does go to jail and the others find out why he's there, he'll be beaten to a bloody pulp by the inmates.

From a politic point of view, the XBox involvement part sounds like yet another attempt to pin the blame for violence on video games.

From a sympathetic point of view... Jesus, of course that asshole deserves 20-40 years in jail. He deserves more than that.

Dear Lord! I have gotten annoyed at a small kid for pressing the off button on my gameboy, when I was in the middle of playing, but that went no further than a glare and a "You are not meant to do that. This is my toy, you have your own". I don't get how anyone could possibly react any stronger than that. I mean beating a child, who doesn't know what it is doing, for something stupid like a fallen console?! What sort of mind do you have to have, to do that? I am surprised it wasn't first degree murder.
