So, being the amazing masochist that I am, I browsed the Pit again.
And I found out something very amazing. It was also quite confusing.
You mean people actually warn readers that they'll have Mary Sues? I thought it was very sweet of them and all, but, uh. I was of the opinion that many people disliked Mary Sues and would rather not read them or write about them. But then, here are a couple of honest folks who tell outright that their stories will have Mary Sues.
I see that I have still not seen everything the world has to offer.

Saw Avatar today - exceptionally pretty movie with very cliche writing and some unfortunate choices re: race, but... what can I say, I'm weak against the pretty. I liked it.
I have to say, however, that it was paired with a collection of the most consistently horrifying trailers that I've ever had the misfortune to see. Clash of the Titans? Looks awful despite being based on one of the most delightfully campy movies ever, which had special effects by one of the biggest names in the history of SFX, and starring Liam Neeson, whom I adore, and being based on Greek myth, which I love. And yet, it looks awful. However, when you compare it to the next trailer we saw, it looks like material for my favorite movie of next year. This would be unbelievable, if the next trailer hadn't been Prince of Persia. Look, I realize the video games are pretty cool - I've watched The Boy and a friend of mine both play them, and they look like huge fun. But... let's just say that if you want to talk about bad racial politics, forget about Avatar and take a look at this piece of crap. Then there was Salt, another vehicle for Angelina Jolie, and... some horrifying piece of crap with Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise, which managed to make all the others look like something I might want to see, after all. Yeah. Next year is not going to be a good year for movies, it looks like.
Anyway... I don't actually have a whole hell of a lot to say about Avatar apart from it being very very pretty and totally living up to my usual high expectations for special effects by WETA. People who are saying that it's going to revolutionize movies, or that it's unbelievably unique or anything... eh. I think we all know we're living in the last days when sci-fi and fantasy will be performed by actors in makeup as opposed to actors using motion-capture technology. I may not like that - despite my love for CGI, I love makeup and animatronic features too much to approve of CGI taking over the field - but that's the way the industry's been moving, and I can't blame them for that. Particularly not now that CGI has so clearly come into its own. And I admit, motion-capture makes me a lot less afraid of CGI - before motion-capture tech started to be used, a lot of people predicted that CGI would be used to replace actors, particularly in sci-fi. I think that would be a monumentally bad idea. Characters would lose their humanity, their soul. And motion-capture is showing us how we can avoid that - that CGI should enhance an actor's performance, not replace it. As long as they stay on that route, I suppose I'll get used to the idea.

Well, I wish I had something better to post, but hey. LJ is one of the only sites I frequent anymore. If you are into manga, Mangafox is so good. You don't have to download anything, which is my main reason for loving it. You just read it right there on the site.

I just found this video yesterday, and chances are I'm way behind on the times. Still, I think it's utterly amazing and I totally have a crush on the lead guy. Seriously, look at the face and that hair and that shirt.

I'm sitting here watching Doctor Who: End of Time, and so far, it isn't as bad as everyone has been saying. Wilf <3
ALSO. I'm up to season 4 episode 4 of Dexter! I also found my first slash pairing in that show. I'm a total Miguel/Dexter shipper now. Too bad there isn't any fics or anything for them. :/
And, you know, too bad how everything ended with them.
HOW IS EVERYONE? I WANT SOME CHATTING.

Avatar!!!
Saw the 3D version and now I wanna do the IMAX version.
I'm not a big fan of Cameron and can live without seeing his "Titanic" ever again... The theme song makes me wanna
put a pencil in my good ear.
This is so totally different.. and beautiful... and creative... and nearly 3 hours long. Even Bob loved it!
Hey and Michelle Rodriguez was her usual self, but the character was wonderfully redeemable.
Did I say I loved "AVATAR" ?!!?

Wow, wow, and even more wow. Not only did you fill the prompt I was secretly hoping for the most and melted my stony little heart with it, but you floored me with the finale crossover, and made it work spectacularly. I have a long workday tomorrow, but I will hopefully return in the evening to blither properly at length. Thank-you so very very much for making my Yuletide this year, and I hope your own gift was just as fantastic.

Today is xmas, as most of you know, but me and my family celebrated it at midnight. It's always like that you know, christmas eve party then at midnight the presents. I think it's quite neat. This year of course all the little ones took most of the gifts. My grandpa came to visit from Mexico! We were alll so very excited. We had't seen him in almost 9 years.
I was happy but never fully happy. I miss my Alan :( Haven't talked to him in 4 days now, he's out of town. I miss him telling me goodnight and waking me up with an annoying text! I feel like shopping now that i have money :D Clothes, duh. But I always look for the cheapest deals. I mean, at Ross you can find awesome skinny pants for sometimes even $8 or a little more, the same ones that you can find at the mallfor like $20. Of course Im taking the cheap ones :D But i've bought lots of pants lately, i want shirts.
I wanna do all this shopping plus eating chinese with alan. I hope he comes back soon :(
Well there isn't anything else, i cannot wait for new years wow! 2010!
