| Icon Tutorial #6 |
[10 Sep 2006|03:45am] |
Here's another colouring tutorial. It's REALLY quick and easy. You may have to change some things depending on what photo you use. I'd love to see your results. :]

The brush can be found in this brush pack. I used the brush on the left in the middle row. :]
Enjoy!

| Icon tutorial #5 |
[09 Aug 2006|06:40pm] |
This is a tutorial focusing on coloring which is reallllly popular in iconing nowadays, but it's hard in Gimp because Gimp has different layer modes than Photoshop. Anyways, if it's useful, comment! And if you want me to make more tutorials like this, let me know.

I'd love to see your results!
P.S. I'm thinking of making the community public... Hmmm.

lrita found this: ximba.org/viewarticle/lf/issue044 for those interested in curved text! Don't ask me any questions about it 'cause honestly I haven't read through it, I skimmed across it but I didn't read enough to understand but I assume it should work.
Thankyou lrita! :]

| Questions? |
[10 Mar 2006|06:16pm] |
If you have a question about Gimp/how to do something specific or if you have a problem, please comment with your question here. I'll try to answer as best as I can and if not, then i'll try to point you somewhere that may help.
Also if you've seen a icon around that you like but you aren't sure how to make one similer, show me and I should be able to show you how to make it.

Wow, 125 members, that was unexpected! Welcome to all of you! Sorry if I haven't welcomed you all personally by comments x.x I'd like to point out that if you haven't scrolled back through entries (which you can 'cause they're arn't many) The memories section has pretty much every update in it and it's easy to sort through. :)
I promise to update in a few days with some brushes and maybe a tutorial. What kind of brushes do you want? Obviously, I wont be able to make every brush everyone suggests but I will try! And if any of you have seen a icon that you love (made by someone else and you're not sure how it's made) and want to know how to make it, show me and I MAY be able to help. ^_^
Have a good night kids xx

| Mini Tutorial |
[09 Jan 2006|01:06am] |
ticcyyy was so nice, she wrote this mini tutorial for me and now I have to post it because I love the colouring in this tutorial.
Colour tutorial to achieve this look:
(Those are ticcyyy's personal icons, so DO NOT take them unless she gives you permission.)
First I sharpened the picture at 60%, sized it to 100x100 pixels, sharpened it again at 50%, copied the base two times, set both layers to screen at 100%.
Then I copied the base layer again and moved that copied layer to the top and set that to soft light at 100%.
I then flattened the image and then went to unsharp mask and fiddled with the intensity of the hue and contrast until it looked sharp enough.
I then copied the base and flood filled the layer with pale yellow (#e0d9b1), and set that layer to multiply at 100%.
I then copied the base again and flood filled it with dark blue (#081b3d), and set that layer to screen at 100%.
And then flattened the image.
And there you go!
More examples she has are here and here. xD
This is my result:

| How To Upload the Brushes to GIMP |
[26 Nov 2005|07:17pm] |
For those of you who don't know how:
Download the .Zip Unzip it to your desktop Cut the brushes So go into C drive (or whatever drive you have Gimp under), program files, Gimp and find the 'Brushes' folder Paste the brushes in there Restart Gimp
For example, my brushes are saved in: D:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\share\gimp\2.0\brushes
:) This will be added to memories.

| Resources Post |
[15 Nov 2005|05:16pm] |
So, we all know that GIMP is hard to find brushes and resources for, which sucks. So i'm going to post all the links I use for my graphics needs. This entry will be placed in the memories under 'resources' and if you ever need to find something in this community the memories section has all tutorials and brush packs listed. :)
BRUSHES: Deviant Art GIMP Brushes. The BEST place to find GIMP brushes, but it's not updated a hell of alot which is sad.
Rhysin Graphics. Has a few GIMP brush packs, but I don't think more get added.
Cybia.co.uk. Lots of brushes, but they don't suit icon making that well, never the less, some a good to collect.
realm.chriscostus.com. Brushes and tutorials
German site with brushes.
Some simple brushes. FONTS: Da Font.com. My favourite font site, they have pretty much any font you're looking for. :)
PATTERNS/TEXTURES: Squid Fingers.com Lots of patterns slovenly-artist.net. Lots of nice patterns
IMAGES: Getty Images.com. Good search, you can find a bunch of different images to make icons out of, and most are free Hope this is helpful
