The winner of the game is harajukufuuri with a score of 55%, or 6/11 correct guesses (for the writers, I scored on 10 or 11 depending on how many stories you wrote, since guessing yourself doesn't count). You insist on living by the doctrines of the past, when you do not take to heart the lessons it offers you at present for the future.”

Ban said he didn't believe he and Ginji could've run up a 3,000,000-yen tab at the Honky Tonk, but the fact of it was he had no idea. Paul kept the books and could have been screwing with them for all he knew, but Paul also fed them on credit. It was better not to inquire too closely. During long dark nights of the soul he could admit that when the money went toward food it generally went fast. Legwork burnt calories, they slept like logs huddled in the winter and sprawled during the summer, and dreamt of protein with tiresome persistence.

Sparkles of stars that are demon dust rise from a steady palm, coalescing into a shard of reflective glass in the shroud of nighttime.

The moon has rediscovered the joy of playing hide-and-seek with its cloud companions. In a corner of Shinjuku, a neat row of poorly-maintained lamps is the only source of illumination for a street sandwiched between two clusters of drab apartment buildings.

"What are you doing here?" Juubei said, and Toshiki should have been pleased to see Juubei as surprised as he was. Should have seen this coming, even so. The hallway seemed very large and dusty, and the doors of the young king's sanctuary were closed tight and silent.

It is during afternoons like this, hot and sticky, that Ginji just sits and lets the air from the air conditioning unit pass over him, back against the cool walls of their small bedroom; Ban is rarely in when they’re not working, but when he is back in their apartment he is usually at the window – Ban-chan’s living room window, Ginji thinks, because Ban is there so often, perched on a three-legged stool they salvaged on one of their more recent jobs – taking long drags on Marlboros and looking out. Sometimes Ginji falls asleep and it is night when Ban comes back with dinner, or sometimes Ban comes back earlier and Ginji wakes up to the sound of Ban cooking, and the smell of food, but they have electricity now and Ginji can fall asleep on hot afternoons while waiting for Ban to come back, if he remembers to turn the air-conditioning on properly before he does.

It's already late in the morning, but the gardeners' shears are still loud in his ears as Shido strides out on the drive. They've usually done with the front by now, but everyone is running late today, it seems. The driver of the delivery truck is a new guy, a foreigner. He catches Shido's eye and tugs his cap down. His cheeks go red as he mumbles something about trouble finding the place. He smells nervous.

They had just gotten paid, which was good, and they'd been nowhere near the Honky-Tonk at the time, which was better, because it meant they got to splurge on dinner before Paul could demand his share. It wasn't quite cold enough to snow, and the last of the dead leaves were falling through the air. Dinner was all-you-can-eat pasta, at one of the many restaurants in Yokohama that had not been planning for just how much Ginji could eat, when motivated. Ban had a few breadsticks. His appetite was always bad in winter.

I, of all people, am aware that we live in a universe which is based on the data that we perceive. Change that data, and the world changes. What's more, we change with the world and do not even realize it.

It is possible for a system to be theoretically correct to those inside it, but only disprovable by those outside the system. I exist within the Archive. The Archive is true. The Archive may change, but I will change with the Archive and be unaware of the change. But does this mean that there is an observer outside the Archive?

Time and space are artifacts of perception.

It was easy, with girls. They pretty much expected it, you know. All you really had to do was say something, make a suggestion, be open about it. And then... well, if you were Midou Ban, you usually got a nasty look, or maybe a smack across the face. Sometimes she'd lay you out on the pavement and grind her heel into your gut. But even so, no real harm done. No big deal. No one really cared. (And if she did lay you out on the pavement, at least you got to look up her skirt.)

Ban rolled his eyes and pushed up his shades as he walked into the dance club. It was just as he had expected it would be. Dark with annoying flashy rainbow lights, full of hot chicks who would never give him a second look or the time of day, and bombarded with loudly blaring music. In other words flashy, pretentious, obnoxious, and most importantly the last place Ban wanted to be. Still he was on a mission. Though a stupid mission. A stupid mission that didn’t pay.

Everyone who signed up should have received a confirmation email with their two IDs for the challenge. It was sent several days ago; if you haven't gotten it, let me know.
