About

Because I know some people need the explanation...

* * *

Yaoi, strictly speaking, m/m stories, usually in cartoon format, drawn by fans using other people's characters. This fan-drawn yaoi is found in fan publications called doujinshi. Yaoi is an acronym for 'yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi': no mountain (ie peak; climax), no point, no meaning. As the acronym suggests, fannish yaoi tends to emphasize the sex over the emotions and can do without plot entirely.

Yaoi takes any kind of relationship and sexualizes it: 'These guys are brothers, let's put them in bed together.' 'These guys are on the same soccer team, let's put them in bed together.' 'These guys are sworn enemies, let's put them in bed together- or even better, have one guy tie the other guy up and rape him.'
Yaoi is equivalent to 'slash' in English but with certain cultural differences.

Most slash uses characters from live-action tv shows. Most yaoi uses characters from cartoon series (anime), video games, and comics (manga), in that order. (Note also that the cartoons and comics are almost invariably shounen, ie those aimed at a young male audience. These have more male characters and less canonical romance than the female stuff.) Slash looks for evidence in the original series that two characters are devoted to each other before sticking them in bed together. Yaoi will pair characters together regardless of how they feel about each other. Slash is overwhelmingly text-based: 98% of it is short stories. Yaoi is largely visual: about 90% of it is in comic format.

In its broad sense yaoi has come to be used (incorrectly, of course) by us westerners to mean m/m comics in general, whether series-based and amateur, or original and professional.

As such, this is a yaoi community, directed at the shounen manga and anime GetBackers.

Rules

* * *

Yes, each community requires a set of rules/guidelines to be followed and of course we are no different, otherwise there really would be total boy-sex chaos. And yes, total boy-sex chaos sounds great, when it's under control. As the moderators, it'll basically make our jobs easier and our member's lives (or rather, friends pages) more under control as far as GB:Yaoi is concerned... so, let's get right to it.

1. Please respect the members here. I can't stress this enough. We're after a nice friendly community here people, so please bear that in mind. I don't want flaming starting up here. If there is a problem we'd like it if you'd direct them to us, the moderators, rather than taking matters into your own hands and bitching someone out in the community. Any posts trailing into a flame war will be deleted without warning, and that includes whatever the context of the original post was. You have been warned.

2. Want to post up your art, fics, character rambles, sneaky photos of Ban and Ginji doing it? Great! But PLEASE LJ-cut your images and large amounts of text. If you are unaware of how to do this, it is simply < lj-cut > your stuff here< /lj-cut > without the spaces between < and >
If you didn't know how to LJ-cut before please learn because images in particular must be LJ-cut. It's not to be an annoyance - it's because it becomes an annoyance when your friends page takes a half hour to load. So yes, if you have any fanart, doujinshi scans, screen captures, whatever image-wise, please take a moment to place it behind a cut ^.^;

3. Spoiler rule! Spoilers must, must, must, must MUST be clearly marked where they start and end, or behind a LJ-cut, which is actually preferred. Remember, just because you've seen all the show or have the manga does not mean that everyone will have also. This is not a community only for those who know everything about GetBackers.

4. It goes without saying really that posts should be yaoi related. There is a general GetBackers community, [info]getbackers, (which we shall plug whichever chance we get, because it is a wonderfully maintained community ^_^) for non-yaoi talk, but it is slash friendly.

5. Good spelling and grammar is a must here. We're not asking for perfection, but it isn't hard to bear a bit of standard English for a while, right? And yes, that means unless you're briefly mocking, posts with a nature of "Omg, I tink y401 is so k00l, U R soooo r0xx0rs!!1111" will be kicked off, torn apart and then ingested, and that's just me - I'm not even going to mention what my partner in crime here would do to posts of that nature.
On that same note, don't get scared too much... the typo-demon will hit each and every one of us at some point, so damn, we're not that harsh. Might be an idea to briefly check over your post before it goes out though, for a couple of reasons. One, the general spelling and grammar as mentioned, and two, it's good to make sure your post does actually make sense. You'd be surprised how often that is actually overlooked ^.^;

6. Brief posting guidelines! You can post whatever you want, generally... BUT there's a couple of little things here, people. Fanart, we love it! Fanfiction, bring it our way! Doujinshi scans/saves HELL YEAH! Japanese fan art, w00t, but that needs a link back to where you found it. What would make us happy little bunnies would be if you let us know what you're posting. We're going to allow everything from G rated stuff right up to NC-17, but if it's a little on the hot and steamy side it would be a very good idea to inform us ^_^ I mean, I love the idea of finding some happy Ban x Ginji smut loving, but it's not great when you're in a class or at work perhaps, so please respect that.
It's not a rule, but we'll give you a cookie every time you follow this layout of classification:

Type: Art? Doujinshi? Fanfic? Screencap?
Pairing: Assuming it contains a pairing of course
Rating/Warning: G? PG? PG-13? R? NC-17? Is it full on sex? (We can only hope.) You know, just make us aware.
Author/Artist/Location: If it's your own fic or art of course you write your own name, and site if you want to. If it's Japanese fanart it must have a link back to where it was obtained; yes, it's been mentioned before I know, but it needs to be mentioned again. Same goes for any other art found on a site, screencaps that are not your own or manga scans. Credit where credit is due.

Also, quiz posts... we have to make a note of these. If you HAVE to post a quiz result put it behind a LJ-cut and only make ONE post for each quiz. If you want to show your own result post it in a comment to the original post of that quiz. I have seen way too many posts of the same quiz in a community and it will not be looked upon too kindly here >.>;
Cross posting is also allowed, just so you know ^.^;

7. We like links o.o/ If you have a GetBackers site or community you want to give a little attention let us know. We don't want five posts of "Hey! Come look at my site! [link] Kthxbai!" every day, but we are planning on having a list of recommended GB sites, yaoi and non yaoi, so no over-plugging please X_x

8. You don't have to introduce yourself. In fact, we'd prefer you didn't ^^;; It sounds harsh, but there is a reason. Honestly, make yourself known, comment, have fun, but introduce yourself with a post of actual interest, your art or fic or whatever: no-one really wants to just know your name, your favorite character and that you like GetBackers (I'd have thought that was obvious anyways). If you want to lurk, go ahead and lurk, if you want to be a comment-whore, knock yourself out (as long as it's not overkill), it's all good ^^

9. Have fun! Meet new people, share ideas, rant if you need to, ask questions, poke the mods and present your boy-sex to us >D

Any problems? Bring it up with [info]gby_mod, we'll try and sort out any problems you may have!
