About
Founded in 1789, the same year the U.S. Constitution took effect, Georgetown University is the nation's oldest Catholic and Jesuit university. Today, Georgetown is a major international research university that embodies its founding principles in the diversity of our students, faculty, and staff, our commitment to justice and the common good, our intellectual openness, and our international character.
Basically, a place for Hoyas and friends-of-Hoyas to talk about anything, preferably Georgetown-related, though off-topic stuff every now and then is okay, too. There's already a Georgetown blog list, but we believe that Livejournal is vastly superior to Xanga. Yes.
If you're looking for statistical information (SATs, GPAs, etc.), it's better that you check out places like US News & World Report, because gathering data from just a handful of students won't be too too helpful. We're a better source for questions about student life, etc., that you might not get from a guidebook. However, feel free to ask away about anything Georgetown-related anyway!
Some ground rules:
1) Please introduce yourself when you join. Suggested info: school, year, majors/minors, non-academic interests, etc.
2) To prevent flames and such, anonymous posters will be screened first. Also, all IP addresses are logged. Other than that, everyone's free to post and comment.
3) We strongly encourage and welcome advertising events. Much easier than posting flyers in Red Square, yeah? However, please don't advertise more than once for any given event. If something is going on periodically, let us know in your post, and we'll put it in the memories section.
4) No flames, no BS, no excessive swearing, etc. Constructive criticism is okay, and we're all adults here, so we know what's acceptable and what's not. Just because it's the Internet doesn't mean you can forget your manners. You'll be banned if any posts/comments get out of hand.
*This community is not officially affiliated with Georgetown University. Many of us have given them a lot of money and sat in their classrooms, though.
