Global warming - are we too late already?
I just want to post this and ask if anyone wants to comment.
I mean , is it true that all this methane given off is going to be as bad as it was in the Permian Era - because if it is, we are totally screwed!

Ok, so it is bad - but how long have we got to adapt? A couple of generations, a couple of decades, or will it kick in so soon we won't know what hit us? Should I be planning a ski trip to switerland this year, or just stay home and go scuba diving in what is now Salisbury Plain?

*rolls eyes* When I read the comments on those kinds of pages, I can never decide if I want to laugh or cry at the extremists. It's like the concept of "adaptation" has never entered most of these people's minds. The average person just has such a short concept of time...I guess that's one of the benefits of studying geology--truly being able to put things in perspective. It's like all the people down here (I'm in Louisiana) who freaked out after Katrina, saying "we've never been hit like this before! It's horrible! GLOBALWARMINGGLOBALWARMINGITSGOINGTOKILLUSALL!!!"...and yet, the last time New Orleans flooded was only 50 years ago. In fact, it's flooded every few decades for the last couple hundred years....just long enough for a generation to die off and forget the last flood. That's what you call "poor engineering", not "global warming". *shrugs*

Anyway, I'm always up for a new scuba adventure, so sure! Bring on the global warming! Just wake me up when it actually gets here.
