Address Search
Are there any websites where you can find old phone books or listings?  I'm looking for an address from around 1934, Bronx.  I could use a census from 1930, but that's a touch too early and of course, the 1940 census hasn't been released yet.  Thanks to anyone who can help.

I don't like to post text only, so for your time and for the sake of cuteness, a photo of a random kid, circa 1934 from the Bronx:

Hey, I don't know of any sites like that, but I'm originally from the Bronx, so I thought I'd say hi. :-)

Hiya back! I'm from Suffolk, but most of my siblings, parents, grandparents and greats are from the Bronx. Nice to meet ya!

If I find anything out, I'll update this post.

Your local library probably has Bronx phone/address directories dating waaaaaaaaaay back...not that I'm volunteering you to do a look up for this person.

Actually Ancestry.com has a lot of directories in their database.

You know what, Ancestry is so big now, that I didn't even realize that. I will check them first. Thanks.

I would try writing to a local historical society. If anyone had old directories or phone books, it would probably be them. Most of them would have a listing somewhere online, if not an actual website.

You might try the NY Public Library. I know our library here in St. Louis has a collection of old phone books. You could also check city directories for the Bronz at the library.
