geisha_girls, featuring primarily the subject of geisha/maiko/geiko, and secondarily the subject of women in kimono. (Of course, the vast majority of women in kimono (both in art and real life), are not geisha.) We welcome the sharing of all authentic traditional and modern geisha-related and kimono-related art and images, whether images of painted kimono, photos of real geisha, ukiyo-e, manga characters in kimono, etc. Please note that if you post inauthentic images, original art, tattoos, etc., you may expect critquing by members more knowledgeable than you (or I). Representation and discussion of Western appropriation of geisha imagery are allowed. Articles, event listings, and URLs are also very welcome.
We are not here to promote sexism, racism, exoticism, stereotypes, etc.
Please keep in mind the differences between kimono and traditional female clothing from other Asian cultures, such as the qipao/cheongsam/Hong Kong Sheath, the hanbok, the ao dai, etc.
Please post large images, multiple images, or images with nudity or sexual content behind an LJ-cut. Thank you!

Geisha are professional hostesses who entertain guests through various performing arts. Geisha are neither ordinary hostesses nor prostitutes. Geisha are trained in a number of traditional skills; Japanese ancient dance, singing, playing instruments, flower arrangement, wearing kimono, tea ceremony, calligraphy, conversation, alcohol-serving manners, and more. Geisha are talented women who patiently go through extensive training. Even after becoming geisha, they keep improving their skills by taking lessons. The work of geisha is expanding these days, including modeling or international tours, for example.
