The [info]geekfiction Summer Sizzler Ficathon

It's the moment you've all been waiting for (well, perhaps just a few of you). It's another fic-a-thon!

In the spirit of summer, this is just about the simplest ficathon you'll run across - relaxed, fun, and totally open to the possibilities.

Notice the gorgeous table we have (behind the cut, clearly, because we're considerate like that) of 50 potential summer-themed prompts. You simply comment telling us which prompt you want... and write a CSI fanfiction about it. Seriously, that's it.

Stories are due on the 4th of July, a month from now. All pairings, characters, ratings, and all three series, are welcome like always.

SUMMER SIZZLER PROMPTS
01. sunscreen 02 watermelon 03. beach 04. picnic 05. fireworks
06. surfing 07. road trip 08. camping 09. bonfire 10. swim suit
11. sunburn 12. ice cream 13. vacation 14. seashell 15. beachball
16. sailing 17. baseball 18. flip flops 19. sunshine 20. popsicle
21. frisbee 22. sandcastle 23. tank top 24. volleyball 25. lake
26. mosquito 27. margarita 28. fruit salad 29. gardening 30. playground
31. waterski 32. hot dogs 33. tanning 34. lawnmower 35. double dutch
36. sprinkler 37. heat wave 38. hammock 39. iced tea 40. equinox
41. air conditioner 42. dandelion 43. sangria 44. firefly 45. sweat
46. dock 47. ocean 48. swimming pool 49. sarong 50. hibachi

Those are your 50 possibilities. Still in?

The Basics:

1. Due Date? July 4, 2006 (early posting will be allowed for people on vacation!)

2. Word Count Requirements? NONE. It's summer, kids. We don't have time for those kind of rules.

3. Can I write such and such pairing? Or a general story? Or Miami or New York? YES.
I know, the majority of us are Las Vegas fans, but we've got some excellent and talented NY and Miami writers on here, so let's make em feel welcome, eh? And as for pairings, here at [info]geekfiction, we think we all should just sit back and enjoy the porn get along. The mods are multi-shippers, many of the members are multi-shippers, and if CSI has taught us anything, it's to keep an open mind. Write that Judy/Archie story if you want! Please?

4. Can I use a prompt that someone has already claimed?
YES. However, we think it would be awesome if you check to see who else has responded, to see what they've chosen. It'd be great if you don't repeat prompts... but if you have your heart set on watermelon and someone has chosen it, that's cool. We just don't want eleventy people writing about beachballs. That's just no fun. No harm or foul if you double-up, it is allowed, but try for a more unique prompt if you can.

5. Do I need to use a beta?
We have amazing Beta Readers here on the site ready and willing to go over your fic with you! Don't be shy, they volunteered because they want to help! It's okay to ask for help; in fact, it's encouraged. Your fic can be amazing and so brilliant, but misusing loose and lose can turn a reader off like *THAT!* If you have trouble finding a beta, e-mail the mods at geekfiction@gmail.com and we'll find one for you!

6. But I've never written a fanfic/a CSI fanfic/anything before!
Don't let that stop you! This is a great way to jump right in. Although no website or LJ comm is perfect, [info]geekfiction has pretty amazing readers and writers who are smart and supportive, beta readers to help you out, and you can participate in a project with the old farts so we can get to know you. So jump right in, the water is fine.

7. I have another question!
E-mail the mods at geekfiction@gmail.com, and we will get back to you ASAP. No question is too silly, really. You may find it embarrassing, but your mods when they were new at LJ? Total helpless newbies who did very silly things. We have all been there, and we probably had the same question at some point.

8. How do I post?
On the 1st of July, we'll make a post that functions as a tutorial on how to post to the site. (Your story should be posted to Geekfiction first.) But we have an old tutorial here. And if you are new to LJ, we suggest you create an account and mess around with it a bit in the meantime.

That's it!

HOW TO SIGN UP:
Reply to this post with a comment. That comment should include...
1. An e-mail address
2. The prompt you would like to claim
... it is that easy!

ETA: You can totally use more than one prompt in a story. The prompt is your inspiration. And if you finish up that story, and want to write another, that is AWESOME AND TOTALLY ALLOWED. Write a story for all 50 if you'd like, come back and claim them as you see fit, but one at a time is probably the best way to go about things.

Thank you, and feel free to spread the word!

Oh yeah. Of course. And you can use more than one in one story (some of them would easily overlap) but the idea is that one prompt will inspire it in some way. But I'm going to say (just going with my gut) that it's probably a good idea to write your story for your prompt, and when that one is done, feel free to come and grab another claim. Sound good?

But no, I pick #34 - Lawnmower. For real. And there will be minimal posing, I promise. missandromache51[at]gmail[dot]com
