The “Simple Life” babe and her Good Charlotte rocker boyfriend headed out to the George restaurant for a romantic dinner date. Unfortunately, on their way out, an over-enthusiastic waiter tried to snag a picture with the heiress, putting a damper on the mood of the night.

They’ve been lying relatively low these days, but yesterday (September 23) Paris Hilton and Benji Madden were spotted enjoying some Big Apple nightlife following a transcontinental flight.

The “Hottie and the Nottie” babe and her “I Don’t Wanna Be in Love” rocker boyfriend showed up at Touch night club in New York City last night for Benji’s guest DJ gig.

Madden rocked a screenprinted hoodie with a black baseball cap, black jeans, and black sneakers.

Earlier in the day, the lovable pair was spotted preparing to fly out of LAX International Airport, with Paris looking a bit thin as she stripped down to go through the security checkpoint.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are turning text messages into serious money for kids in need.

A week after they launched their Text CHILD to 90999 campaign, the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation has raised close to $10,000 toward their goal of $35,000 to build a playground for the children at Beyond Shelter in Los Angeles.

The funds came in via 1,825 text messages, each donating $5, from donations in 48 states.

Madden, who has pledged to join the kids on the playground once it's built, had something else to celebrate this week: Richie's 27th birthday on Sept. 21. The Good Charlotte rocker surprised his girlfriend with a celebration at the Beverly Hills Hotel Saturday.

Giving is taking a new form, courtesy of the parents to Harlow Richie-Madden.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden announced Monday a text-messaging effort with MySpace to benefit their Richie-Madden Children's Foundation.

"There are so many children here who need a place to play. We're excited to help them," Richie sat at an ice cream social to raise awareness in downtown Los Angeles Monday.

The first goal of the "Text CHILD to 90999" campaign? To build a playground for the children at a downtown Los Angeles housing project, which helps low-income families out of homelessness. The building, which is home to 175 children (many of whom were eating melted Marble Slab Creamery ice cream cups in the courtyard), has no recreational facilities.

"We think there should be a playground on the concrete slab you're sitting on," Madden said to the crowd. "It's bigger than building a playground, but this is an exciting start. And I'll come play on it."

The couple also took to their Web site to urge participation. "We hope our support will shine a spotlight on important issues facing children and will inspire and educate the public, especially young people, to get involved, too. We want to do more than write checks."

The program aims to benefit low-income families, build playgrounds, offer medical services, and give baby products to mothers. Foundation partners include the Los Angeles Free Clinic, UNICEF and Children's Health Fund.

The Richie-Madden Children's Foundation, founded in 2007, has Richie's mother, Brenda, on its board of directors. The San Francisco-based Tides Foundation is listed as the charity's fiscal supporter.

Baby Harlow is only 8-months-old, but parents Nicole Richie and Joel Madden aren't counting out the possibility of a sibling for their daughter. "If it happens, it happens," Nicole told Extra. The first-time mom also revealed how quickly Harlow is growing up. "She is pulling herself up and standing ... we don't have to burp her anymore," said Nicole. Proud papa Joe added, "She says 'mama' and 'dada.' She says 'dada' when she wants to play. Wants to laugh. And 'mama' is everything else. When we walk into a place, she waves to everyone." The couple is continuing with their charity work, now wanting everyone to text "child" to 9-0999 which will donate $5 to a children's charity they sponsor. They started the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation to help needy mothers last November.

Good Charlotte guitarist Billy Martin says everything froze the moment he found out his wife was pregnant with their first child, due in late January.

"We bought a pregnancy test without even stressing or sweating," says Martin, who married hairstylist Linzi on March 1, their eight-year dating anniversary. "She went to take it, I sat down at my desk, and two minutes later she came out and said, 'I'm pregnant!'

"All the sound in the world stopped for a minute. I was shocked – but excited," says Martin, 27, who announced the news on his blog last week. He and Linzi, 25, are planning an Alice's Adventures In Wonderland-themed nursery that they'll customize once they find out the baby's gender.

"If it's a girl, maybe more Alice-based, and if it's a boy, more Mad Hatter and Cheshire Cat," says Martin, who is drawing inspiration from Disney's Alice, vintage Lewis Carroll book illustrations, and the upcoming Tim Burton-helmed Alice film.

"We're not going to do anything dark and spooky that's going to scare the baby," says Martin with a laugh. "We want a lighter, happier version."

The guitarist – an accomplished painter and illustrator with his own T-shirt line, Level 27 – will also create some original artwork for his baby.

He says bandmate Joel Madden, who's dad to 8-month-old daughter Harlow with girlfriend Nicole Richie, has been a great source of advice.

"Joel says it's going to change my whole world, but fatherhood is the best thing that ever happened to him," says Martin. "He tells me not to stress out, and to try to take everything in stride and enjoy it because it's the coolest thing that can happen to you."

Next up for Martin: A remix album for Good Charlotte, and a children's book he wrote and illustrated called Damious McDreary: A Boy and his Bat, which will be released in fall 2009.

Lederhosen are optional but eating and drinking are mandatory Friday at Hartford's Oktoberfest block party, the city's largest street festival of the year.

On Friday, the city's streets will be transformed into a German food court and beer garden with 18 specialty beers.

The event's high note will be a live DJ performance by Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, pictured, on Allyn Street.

Participating bars and restaurants include the Pour House, the Agave Grill, the Wood-n-Tap and the Palace. The party starts on Allyn Street with lunch at noon and goes until 2 a.m. From noon to 10 p.m., the cover is $10. After 10 p.m., the cover is $15. Cover charge buys you all you can eat of the German food plus three five-ounce beer samples.
