Man on Man Action in Bioware RPG Dragon Age (possibly NSFW) I'm amazed that this made it into a mainstream videogame. I've played countless RPGs that flat-out deny you a gay option or else limit it to female characters, so this is a huge step forward. While the Sims hit this territory first in the second game (if I recall), this is the first time I've seen this in a story-centric game. I wasn't too interested in the game until I saw this, but I think it's a must-buy now since one of my pet interests is gay representation in video games. | | Wednesday, November 4th, 2009 | 11:39 pm [pizzazzface]

Clothing/Gear Whore is me!

I am all about hot looking-gear. I was like that when I played WoW. Above is my Aion toon in plate gear at lvl 30ish. Ok. So this is why Aion is the best and I love it with my face. Ok, so in WoW, you know how you can get special clothing/gear...like a Tux Shirt, Lederhousen and Red Santa Outfit. Ok. People kill for that stuff on WoW sometimes. Ok. *deepbreath*. Ok. So Aion has similar things. They got Korean outfits, Chinese traditional outfits, X-Mas clothes, etc. You buy them and then you are happy. So one of the greatest features on Aion is that you are able to take gear and modify them to make them look like different gear. For example. You got Tier 5 Shoulders....You just got some Tier 6 shoulder. Well, you like the look of T-5, but you want the T-6 stats. Aion allows you to do that. You can take both items to a vendor and tell him to change the skin of the Tier 6, to look like Tier 5 but keep the T-6 Stats. zomg you know where I am gong with this. Xbox Live... Humbug!
So, I finally got my Xbox 360 online. I had the 1 month free trial i hadn't used yet and was planning on purchising Gold right after it expires. Gotta say though, not loving it so far. In fact, I fucking hate it! lol First of all, it was a nightmare just getting it online. Passwords this, gotta have a @live.com email that... NIGHTMARE. It took me about a minute to set up both the wii and ps3. Everything seemed a lot more user friendly w/ those consoles. Several calls later, i finally get the 360 online. Now it's downloading the new dashboard. Okay, I just want to try out the online gaming, damn it! Finally, it's done. Lets try out Resident Evil 5 online! WTF? Where's all my special features and weapons?!?! ARRGH!!! Apparantly, when I made the Xbox Live account, I did it under a different gamertag so I can't use all my save files if i want to play online. Don't know how I did that since once again, hooking it up online was a total nightmare and the instructions were as clear as mud. I looked around and apparently I'm SOL since my old gamertag wasn't ever on Live. I would need to purchase another Live Account for that one. Uhh, no. So I don't want to hear anything else about how Live is so much better than PS3 network, cause no, no it's not. Been downloading demos w/ my PS3 w/ so much ease. Been adding friends i don't even know just by playing Lost Planet 2 demo online and my favorite little system right now remembers the last players i played w/ so its REALLY EASY to add them. Just everything seems so easy to figure out w/ the PS3 while it's been the complete oppisite w/ Live in my personal experience. Has anyone else had this much trouble w/ live? | | Monday, November 2nd, 2009 | 7:06 pm [sarx_phagos]

Memory for my PS3
I was hoping I could get some advice from all you fellow gamers out there. I know that the hard disk drive of the PS3 can be swapped out, if desired, but I don't know which type of drive I need. Basically my question is: Can I go to Amazon or Buy.com and buy any laptop hard disk drive for my PS3, or do I need a specific type of laptop hard drive? I know I need a 2.5" SATA hard dive, but my question deals with brands, I guess. Are there any specifics I should be looking for? Right now there is a 1TB hard drive for $106 on buy.com, which I think would be stellar to have inside a new PS3. Please help a clueless fellow gamer! ~~Nick | | Sunday, November 1st, 2009 | 11:53 am [ndrtoon]

Tabletop Gaming in the Twin Cities
... or anywhere new, really. So, the boyfriend and I just moved to Minneapolis after 4 years of my being in college in Florida (he's from MN), which meant leaving behind all of our tabletop roleplaying groups and friends. Towards the end, we were actively participating in a World of Darkness (mortals) game that I ran, a Shadowrun game that the bf ran, and a 4th ed. D&D game that some former dorm-mates ran. Going from three games a week to absolutely no gaming at all has been more than a little jarring. But now that we're starting to settle in and have jobs, I kind of want to start looking for gaming groups here. The problem is that I'm not really sure where to find them. We've been to a few local gaming shops, but they all seemed to be really focused on other games (M:tG, mostly). And then I worry that even if we do find a group that's seeking new players, the "so can my boyfriend play too?" element will be an issue. Going to a tiny liberal arts school meant I could almost always assume anyone I spoke to wasn't going to, well, kill me with sticks for being gay. The real world is scarier. :( So, to those who've relocated but not stopped gaming, any tips? | 10:32 am [mrguillo]

Aion Recruiting! :D
If you play or are thinking of playing Aion, read on. I want to let you guys know of our Legion for any Asmodians in Triniel (NA)! http://delirium-legion.com/We are a fun mature guild (18+ only). We are not hard core, but we are not soft either. We want to get to end game and progress in both PvP and PvE areas. Right now everyone is focusing on leveling and crafting. We got a few upper 30 and low 40 toons. We also have crafters that craft items for Legion members, and they are over 300 in crafting skill. (I'm a slacker at 135 Armorsmith Q.Q ) Check out the website and read about us ^_^! | | Friday, October 2nd, 2009 | 9:34 pm [sarx_phagos]

Call of Duty 1 and Call of Duty United Offensive...trouble with Vista
Hey all I'm trying to get both these games to run properly under vista...this is the first time ive tried it with vista...xp ran them perfectly. My system specs are more than recommended... AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-60 2.00 GHz Performance Rated at: 3.2 GHz 1.9 GB RAM Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 32-bit (Build Service Pack 16001) ATI Radeon X1200 Series Now i know the graphics card ain't great, but it exceeds the recommended specs for the game and runs WoW just fine. I've heard Vista Pro is better than home but I will not pay for more Vista shit. I've installed Direct x 9 as this game is not compatible with DX10. I'm encountering graphical errors in multiplayer, the game won't continue past a certain point in Single Player, and suffering from unheard of lag in multiplayer...my net connection is beyond decent enough for this. Anyone know of any ways to get these games to work well under Vista (I've also tried Compatibility and Run as Admin). Current Mood: hopeful | | Saturday, September 26th, 2009 | 6:42 pm [33mhz]

PS3
Dear gaymers: I finally got a PS3. If anyone wants to team up on Little Big Planet, my id is kimpira. I always assumed that I'd be getting a 360 first, but the price drop + Disgaea 3 finally got me. Although if I had been able to play Little Big Planet before getting the system, that's what would have gotten me to buy a PS3. It's a definite must-have for the system. I've been having a good time checking out the online store, too. Loco Roco Cocoreccho is a cute little novelty, as is Noby Noby Boy. Probably the best deal I've found on there so far is Trash Panic for $5. It's like Tetris or Puyo Puyo, except instead of making lines or matching colors, you throw mundane objects into a bin and use their physical properties to break them down and fit in more stuff. | | Thursday, September 24th, 2009 | 10:54 am [timrehix]

HIV Vaccine
Ok this post is more for the Gay than for the Gamer but I thought it was worth passing on. A study testing a vaccine in Thailand has had some success creating an HIV vaccine. Right now its only about 30% success rate but it looks like a real vaccine is possible. Link | | Saturday, September 19th, 2009 | 6:26 am [mm511]

Funny (?) World of Warcraft story
So, just thought I'd share a funny story. Or at least I think is a funny story. That's actually a rather sad story within a rather funny story. So it's a sad-funny story? Or a funny-sad story? Bother. Anyway, here goes. Mom: Come eat dinner!
Me: (trudges downstairs in a huff)
Dad: Why do you look so angry?
Me: I just did heroic VoA with a pug on my healadin and holy tier 8.5 pants dropped, and I was so excited because it's a dress and I'd get my two-set bonus, which is actually really sweet because it puts a passive hot on targets from holy shock crits, but another pally who was master looter ninja'd them from me, and he was lolret dual-specced prot. I was so angry I dropped raid during Arch and bubblehearthed, then bitched in /2.
Mom: (blank stare) Eat your potatoes.
Me: slash-sigh Do you think I can get away with saying 'bilingual' on job applications if I'm fluent in WoW? In other news, anyone planning on giving AION a try? Current Mood: contemplativeCurrent Music: Sad song / September | | Saturday, September 12th, 2009 | 10:50 am [sarx_phagos]

Aion Open Beta *Update*
I felt like I needed to do an update on it after a few days. The only thing that's really changed is the lack of lag. I found out that the lag wasn't from NCsoft, it was from another company some people [like myself] had to route through to reach the PlayNC servers and THEY were actually the ones causing the issue. Since having that taken care of, my average ping is between 200-300 which is quite normal for me. The only real issue I have over the game at this point is the amount of chat channels the game puts you in initially, but you can fix that yourself, so it's a -very- small con. After the lag was fixed, I jacked up all of the graphics and have it playing at it's max potential and it looks and plays amazingly well. Right now I"m working on getting wings to see how I feel about the flight controls, but from what I heard, after a couple of hours of toying with it, you get used to it and it's not as difficult to fight while flying etc. etc. So far this game has a lot of promise, I just hope NCsoft follows through with this title, because it's going to have some stiff competition in 2010 and if it isn't amazing by then, they're going to have issues keeping people. | 10:42 am [timrehix]

Metal Gear Solid: Rising
haven't heard much from this game or seen any gameplay footage. I am wondering though if they're gonna drop the whole stealth stuff of the Metal Gear series. Not done playing MGS 4, haven't even reached the first boss yet actually, but it's getting to be pretty tedious having to run and hide until a timer runs out whenever you've been spotted. I just don't have the patience for that kind of stuff anymore. I like in MGS 3: Snake Eater where you can pretty much clear an erea of enemies and run around w/ out having to sneak. That's what pretty much made the game tolerable to me til the awesome finale. In MGS 4, it seems so far that there are areas where the enemies respawn endlessly. I hate that! I guess I'm just kinda hoping that they do away w/ the stealth stuff and just make an awesome action game now that it seems like Rising is the start to a new franchise (without snake). Or at least have the stealth sections really limited. I dunno. What do you guys think? |
