I'm from Houston and my friend and I are going to be in the Austin area this weekend and we're thinking about checking out a gay bar/club there...Does anyone have a recommendation as far as which one we should go to? It'll probably be Saturday night, but we could maybe do Friday if there's something good going on...
Thanks in advance for your input!

hi there.
just thought i'd throw this out there...
my gf and i have gotten a great group of women together for L Word viewings every Sunday but have now started to do other activies, like bowling.
everyone gets along really well... i had initially posted the ad on craigslist so it was just a bunch of strangers meeting and now we've all become friends.
we plan on doing a lot of activities in the future. its nice to be around a group with no drama. this is not only extended to women either...the boys are welcome as well!
so, tonight we are meeting at Westgate Lanes around 7 to bowl and then will probably head downtown. Every Sunday is L Word and we are now starting Texas Hold 'Em beforehand at 6.
Other activies in the making are... british comedy night with a curry dinner, more bowling, possibly a shooting range and when the weather warms up, we will be renting a boat at least twice a month to have some fun on the lake.
if you have any questions feel free to ask... i also have a myspace so you can verify my credentials... and a phone as well. :) so, if you're looking for something to do with a fun group, drama free!, come bowl or meet up later!

There have been three transgender killings in the United States in this month alone -- and November isn't even over. While there is a lot of talk about Prop 8 in the GLBT communities, there is significally less about the murders of our transgender siblings.
There will be a Transgender Day of Remembrance on Thursday, November 20th at 6:30 PM Transgender Education Network of Texas will host the event at the Austin City Hall Plaza (fronting Cesar Chavez), between Lavaca and Guadalupe; the event will feature both speakers and artistic expression. For more information please email info@tentex.org or call 877-532-6789
We live in times more sensitive than ever to hatred based violence, especially since the events of September 11th. Yet even now, the deaths of those based on anti-transgender hatred or prejudice are largely ignored. Over the last decade, more than one person per month has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudice, regardless of any other factors in their lives. This trend shows no sign of abating.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance serves several purposes. It raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, an action that current media doesn’t perform. Day of Remembrance publicly mourns and honors the lives of our brothers and sisters who might otherwise be forgotten. Through the vigil, we express love and respect for our people in the face of national indifference and hatred. Day of Remembrance reminds non-transgender people that we are their sons, daughters, parents, friends and lovers. Day of Remembrance gives our allies a chance to step forward with us and stand in vigil, memorializing those of us who’ve died by anti-transgender violence.

I currently have blue cross medical insurance and am looking for a queer friendly doctor (primary care) in Austin. I tried google and the GLMA website without any luck and other search engines.
Any suggestions?

not sure if anyone caught this. i'm no longer living in austin...now in arizona where prop 102 just passed. gay marriage was already illegal in arizona but the proposition was to change the arizona constitution to make it say marriage will only be recognized between a man and a woman. it was extreme discrimination and i'm embarassed to live here. Wish i could be in Austin on Saturday! Thanks to those who are going to protest!

Protest at Austin City Hall, Nov 15th, 12:30 local time, against Prop 8 and more importantly for civil rights.
Pass the word and tell your friends they can find the site of their local protest here
From their site:
On the steps of your City Hall on November 15th at 10:30am PST / 1:30pm EST, our community WILL take to the streets and speak out against Proposition 8 and all of the other pro-equality losses that we have faced in our lifetimes, in our parents’ lifetimes, and for many generations before us. WE CAN’T DO THIS ALONE! WE NEED YOUR HELP! We need organizers in every major city to work with us and get out the protest! I know you’re all tired from all of the work you’ve done for this great election year, but I’m asking for one more push! Let the country hear our voices together. Let them see that we are a strong, adamant, and powerful community that deserves equal rights, and CAN’T BE DEFEATED!
Just passin' on the word.

anyone know if the Guerrilla Queer Bar thing is still going on for this month? they haven't posted any details.
If not any suggestion for a mixed group of wayward queers on a Friday night? Dancing would be great.

So where's everyone's favorite place in Austin to just hang out? I know of all the gay clubs and everything, but does anyone have a particular daytime haunt or bar they go to just to relax but that you know is also a good place to meet guys?
