ADMIN POST! (sorry, I just always wanted to be able to say that. *g*)
So... now that we're here, we can start talking about what we want to do with this silly idea. For my part, here's what I'm able to do, and some thoughts.

As most of you know, I'm very busy with teaching freshman comp and completing coursework for my PhD. I'll be happy to oversee this project (or happy to let someone else oversee it, if it comes to that), but my time and creative energies are limited. Quite a few of you said you'd be interested in doing some writing for this project, and it won't keep going very long if people don't participate. And I'm sounding more like Teacher!Jess the more I go on, so I'll stop. *g*

So, as for me: I offer myself as community mod, research assistant, and fanart-type-person when needed. I'll start the basic research needed to get us going, and hopefully I'll also be available in the future to help with research issues, if you suddenly need to know what kind of shoes were popular in 1592 (I have no idea, by the way). I'm hoping that some of you who are knowledgeable on the topic of Elizabethan England in general or Marlowe in particular will volunteer to be on call to help with those kinds of questions.

Sometime this week, time permitting, I will try to see what I can dig up in the way of Marlowe biographies and write up as concise a bio as possible. Of course, a lot about Marlowe's life is still greatly in dispute, but for our purposes we'll just use whatever sounds the most interesting. *g*

We can try to brainstorm ideas that could make potential plotlines and hopefully, at some point, sketch out a rough outline for a virtual season, with a shocking series finale taking place in a certain tavern in Deptford. ;o) Then we could work our way up to summaries of episodes, with people either writing actual eps, fanfic based on what we come up with, etc. This isn't a terribly organized way of doing it, and it could lead to inconsistencies between episodes, a blurring of the lines between "canon" and fanfic, etc. I don't care if you don't. :o)

So, let me know what you'd be willing to do.

Poll #427829
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All

I'm pretty good on Elizabethan social history and minutiae like costume. *waves at shelf-ful of books* So if anyone wants to know what sort of shoes are being worn in 1592, I can probably help with that.

You might also want to check out http://elizabethangeek.com/ which is a website I run.

Come and pimp in [info]earlymodern, people will probably be hopping up and down with delight. And add "early modern" and "Renaissance" and all that stuff to the user info.

I said i would do all these things. And I want to, I really do. But i have to put on the disclaimer, that if it starts to eat away at my time, I must stop. But I really want to help with the writing and the plannign and the research. Because research is what I do.

I (very briefly) studied Marlowe during the course of my English degree. I don't remember many specifics but I do know where to look. I would be more than happy to help with whatever is needed. My writing skills are dodgy at best but my brain ain't bad.

Yay! :o) More research slaves (insert evil laugh here). Would you happen to have any recommendations for good books or websites for Marlowe info?

I seem to remember the Marlowe Society website being a good starting point.
You can find the complete works of Christopher Marlowe here.
As for the books - most of the ones I read dealt largely with his works rather than his life. I get the impression that there is so much speculation surrounding his life that accounts vary greatly. I did read a couple of books that I enjoyed though. The Cambridge Companion to Christopher Marlowe was pretty good. I also enjoyed The Reckoning: The Murder of Christopher Marlowe by Charles Nicholl.
I've never read it but I have heard that The World of Christopher Marlowe by David Rigg is really good. I loved his book about Ben Jonson.

Sometime this week I'll dig out my lecture notes. I think I know where they are.

Before she gotted bogged down in Marlovianism, A.D. "Dolly" Wraight wrote a lot of good bios, such as "In Search of Christopher Marlowe" (I think that's the title). Unfortunately, my copy is in Atlanta. And falling apart.

I'll play Marlowe if anyone in Chicago wants to film anything! Look at my pictures! www.adamselzer.com/dr04.jpg
Funnily enough, there has actually been talk of me playing Marlowe in Marlowe-related filmed things in the past.

I'm willing to help out in any way I can, but like others before me, I have to add the time disclaimer. (I wonder if I could write my master's thesis on this in a year or so, says she who is always looking for a topic... ;)

And I love the interests, because, yep, our Favourite Gay Atheist Spy (who fights crime) is indeed very much interested in Kyd and Shakespeare. Hee.

Yeah, I felt as if I were writing a personal ad as I was filling them in. "Hi, I'm Kit, and I like long walks on the beach, tobacco, and boys..."

The Marlowe Society page might be helpful--there's a bunch of intriguingly organized biographical stuff there.

I've just realized that writing scripts is probably something I could do pretty well, as long as I didn't have to come up with plot (that apparently being the weakness of most college-age writers).

I know slightly more than the average layman about Elizabethean England, esp. foreign policy, and I've been working on developing my script skillz for the past few years, and this sounds like an awesome project. Count me in!

With the usual disclaimer about time -- A-levels coming up, and my two novels are slowly eating my brain, and I'm expecting some personal crises to hit over next few months, but what I have free is thine, O lady.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable in any useful way for this subject - it's the entertainment value wot's got me here (also [info]roz_mcclure. But people can bounce ideas off me, if they'd like, and once I've got something to work with I could do fic.

You have no idea how happy I was to stumble across this while browsing through interests. This is such a good idea.

Um. Anyway. Hope it's okay that I joined. I'd love to write scripts, or fic, even, and possibly summaries. And I'm not the most knowledgeable person around on the subject, but I know where to find information, so I'd be happy to help with research if needed.

This intrigues and enthuses me to no end, and I would desperately like to be a part of it. I can write blurbs. Or scripts. Or help plot a plot. Or write fanfiction. Or sharpen pencils. Or bring coffee and pasteries to the people who are writing/plotting. Anything, really. Please?

this was such a keen concept - it's wonderful that people are moving ahead with it!

I'm not an expert on the era, but have slightly more than average knowledge (especially on period clothing), and can probably help with research as needed.

Historical Resources for FanFic Writers might be a good source for info - they include lots of great stuff.

Happy to write--

::Particularly if it involves characters called Kit::

Was that jealousy I just heard?

::No::

--(also insane, but never mind about that)

Aso happy to offer services as editor/proofreader/beta reader.

::You didn't say research whore yet::

Look, just because I have research parties by myself doesn't...oh hell, research whore then.

::grins:: My meagre store of knowledge is at your service.
