As of March 13th 2008 it is no longer possible to create a basic account.
When joining LJ or in the creation of a new account you are no longer asked to choose between Basic and Plus. Your free account will automatically be a Plus account, and only when you upgrade to a Paid account will you be able to get rid of the adds on your LJ.

What pisses me off is that the people running LJ didn't even think to announce this to their users!

What does this mean for my layouts?
Well, all my S1 layouts that aren't usable on a Plus account will not be available for journals created on and after March 13th 2008. This means that 31 of my layouts. Thirty-bloody-one!

Lately I've been getting a lot of comments from people saying that even after they joined the community they still can't access the layouts.
I think this is a glitch with LJ and not with me. When I check these people in the member list they are always there, marked as member.
My thoughts are that LJ probably is a bit slow in processing the memberships and it therefor might take a couple of minutes before you gain access.
So, the key is to be a bit patient. I can't do anything about it :S...
