Hiya! [27 Sep 2008|12:55am]

valentinareview

Meep! Something or someone ate my rich text editor! Thank the gods Xanga's is still working...I just wrote what I wanted on there and plopped the HTML over here.

Anywho, my real name is Dayanara and I've been in love with the Old Kingdom series since I was in 7th grade...which I think makes it about 1998. I recently left Facebook because I was mad about the forced layout/formatting change, which rots, because I miss being on Garth's friend list. At least I have Firefox's live bookmarks to keep me up to date on his Amazon blog! He doesn't always post the same things there as he does on Facebook, but it'll have to do.

I'd like to give a special shoutout to the members of this group who have charter mark tattoos...I'm sure there are probably one or two! (There were at least three in the group I was in on Facebook!) I feel like I'm somewhat a part of that little subset because I'm the only person I know who has legally changed her name in favor of Old Kingdom characters. No joke. I took Dayanara from the former Miss Universe 'cause I thought it was pretty and made Sanar and Ryelle my middle and last names because I lurv the Clayr...and the names are pretty, too. I enjoy going back and reading the parts of Lirael where she was still in the Glacier just because it involves the Clayr and I think it would be fab to hear the story of a successful Clayr someday...even if it's only a story I write for myself and pass down to my children.

Oh and did I mention that I'm dressing up as a Clayr for a costume ball next month? I emailed Garth for some costume tips back in 2004, as that was going to be my last time trick-or-treating (at least until I have children ^_^), but I ended up having to march, so it got put on the back burner until just a few months ago. I'll have pix to share later on...promise!

Hello, I guess I'm new here.

I've been a fan of Garth Nix books, and have a love or roleplaying. My favorite series is Keys to the Kingdom which I'm at Grim Tuesday. Hey I've just started and LOVE the series. I've also enjoyed the Abhorsen Trilogy. Yeah, that's about it.

Hello!

The Charter has fallen: the Old Wall and Great stones are broken
and useless, and the Bloodlines had been ended. The Old
Kingdom has been thrust once again into chaos and decay,
and it seems as though Free Magic has claimed the
kingdom once and for all.

But there's about to be a second chance: new Bloodlines are
emerging, mimicking the old, though weaker. If they can
discover the truth- what really happened to usher in an age of
despair- a new kingdom could rise from the ashes of the old.
But will they ever survive North of the Wall?

Set in the world of Garth Nix's Abhorsen/Old Kingdom series;
all original characters. One of several games at
Dreaming Out Loud, a multi-game role-playing site.

I'm Sonja(or Sonny) and I've been a fan of the Old Kingdom trilogy for about 6 years now, after I saw my friend reading it and got interested. It's my now favorite series. I started reading Lirael again last week and figured I'd see what other Nix fans are like.

soooo, hello!

Hi everyone!

I've just joined the community - I'm glad I found a place for Garth Nix fans :D - so I thought I'd introduce myself if that's okay~  :)
My name is Danielle~ I have to admit the only Garth Nix books I've read are Sabriel, Lirael and Abhorsen, but I'm working on getting around to the others :P I only just read those 3 books earlier this year. I've been keeping an eye on them for a few years but for some reason never actually got them. Then finally this year I borrowed them from the library, and read them all and loved them. I recently bought them because I kept getting cravings to read them and really wanted to own them myself. I'll be re-reading them again soon once my semester has finished at uni :D

Nothing we didn't know.

I'm so worried.
Sabriel has all of my all-time favorite Nix characters in it.

Touchstone seems like a character that'll be safe, but Mogget will be easy to screw up.
I do not want a Garfield cat tagging along with the Abhorsen.

The Lord of the Rings movies are giving me hope that fantasy books can be portrayed decently.

Some extracts on Superior Saturday [29 May 2008|11:59pm]

gethee

I just wanted to say that there is an extract for the first two chapters of Superior Saturday. It is excellent and I'm really excited about the book coming out. There are also more information about the book on that site. Yeah, there a quite a few spoilers, but not too much to give away the whole book. Proceed with caution.

I'm very excited about this book. I still have a little over a month before it comes out (while those in Australia get it in a couple of days -- lucky!).

From garthnix.com

"Several steps closer to a SABRIEL film . . .

One of the frequent questions that I usually don't adequately answer is about what is happening with a possible SABRIEL film. Well, today I can say a bit more than usual as PUBLISHING NEWS has reported on the "package" that we have put together and will be taking to studios in Hollywood in a few weeks.

That package is:

DIRECTOR: Anand Tucker (HILARY & JACKIE, SHOPGIRL and the original director of THE GOLDEN COMPASS before he left over creative differences)

WRITTEN BY: Dan Futterman (Academy Award nominee for his script of CAPOTE and also well-known actor, most recently in A MIGHTY HEART) and Garth Nix

PRODUCED BY: Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of Plan B (Brad Pitt's production company).

I have always said that I wanted to co-write the script and work with people who had made great films and whose work I respected, this team represents the achievement of that goal.

I'll keep you all posted on what happens from here. Obviously we hope it will proceed, but it may not, given the vagaries of the film world.

The PN report is here http://tinyurl.com/423995"

I've been slacking. Sorry. And I'm sorry about the negative tint to this post, but I'm disappointed and you can argue with me if you'd like. That's cool.

Superior Saturday will be out in 3 or 4 months! He has links to podcasts on his site, but I'm so disappointed in the other new stuff I've read I want to hold off on these.

Sir Hereward and Mister Fitz Go To War Again

Honestly, this didn't hold my attention past the first paragraph. Anybody want to summarize and/or encourage me to rethink not reading it?

Bad Luck, Trouble, Death and Vampire Sex
Some kid accidentally kills and old lady and humps a vampire or something.

First Chapter of A Confusion of Princes

As with the first chapter in any Garth Nix book, you can't tell what the hell is going on by the first chapter. And, judging by what I've just read..I think I'll read this one in the store before I buy it.

Imperial Galaxy Facebook Game
I'm pissed off that you can customize the male characters more. And that everybody is called a prince.
I'm a feminist, what can I say. But honestly, is that hard to make the hair fit on the head?

Sabriel Game
I'll be honest, this disappoints me because I suck at it. Completely biased on this one.

If you'd like to discuss any of these in detail, start a new post. This place needs some life.

I bought Sabriel on a whim. After reading it 5 times over, a mate told me that the next one was out. I worked my way through them with great pleasure. I also bought Across the Wall. But seeing as I'm studying for my A levels, ive had all my books taken away. :( Ive read Shades children ad the other series, To be honest Mr Monday was alright I guess, but the others where a real disappointment :( but seriously. Garth Nix- a truly great story teller!!! i look forward to more.

Fanarts II [26 Sep 2007|01:22am]

Since I finally finished Lady Friday the other night I thought it was time to post some of my Keys to the Kingdom arts as well. These are all sketches to get a hold of the characters, though Arthur came to me pretty easily. Though that's probably because he's on the cover of all the books. XD

Monday through Wednesday )

I have more sketches but I'll save those for later. Better to stockpile them and show them bit by bits. Thanks for looking!

Fanarts [17 Sep 2007|10:44pm]

Well, since I got the go-ahead, I figured I would go ahead and post some fanart I've done from various Nix stories, primarily the Abhorsen books and some Keys to the Kingdom. I won't post all my sketches at once, but just a few at a time to spread them out. Not sure when I'll get inspired to draw them again.

For this entry I think I'll stick to Abhorsen things.

I'll say minor spoilage just in case. )

That's it for now! Those are really the only Abhorsen-related ones I like so far, but there will certainly be more since I chose it for Fanart100. XD My other sketches are Keys to the Kingdom related, but there are more of those I'd like to show. But later! >____>

And so... [17 Sep 2007|12:25am]

depleti
On a whim, I have found you all! I am Depleti (dee-plee-tee) and I am also a Nix fan. I have read the Abhorsen trilogy and Across the Wall, The Ragwitch, and now I'm almost done with Sir Thursday. I could probably finish that tonight easily enough. No spoilers please! I hate that. >____>

Anyway, yeah, huge fan of his stuff. I'm not sure if it's even so much his writing I adore as much as the ideas he comes up with. They're very inspiring, and the stories are great. When I picked up Sabriel I didn't think I would like it because I wasn't really into the whole necromancy/dead walking bodies/dark magic stuff, but apparently I was wrong. Now I am very much into it. =D So much so, I signed up to do the whole trilogy for [info]fanart100. So far I've only done one picture, but I have sketched many others. Now there's only 99 more to go!

Actually that's a question I suppose I should ask. I've done lots of sketches and drawings and doodles for Nix stories. Could I post some here? I'd hide them behind a cut, of course, so to keep the front page clean and avoid spoilers if there be any. Also to save bandwidth and all that, etc.

Yeah, hello! =D

Hello! [01 Sep 2007|12:27pm]

ohohellis
Hello there!

I'm Ellis (as you may have guessed from the LJ username), and I'm a Garth Nix fanatic. I've only read the Abhorsen Trilogy thus far (I have to admit that I have yet to pick up or touch any Keys to the Kingdom books), and I fell in love with it. I think I first read Sabriel when I was... young. Yes. Because I can't remember exactly how old I was... anyway, I do remember I couldn't get to sleep when I read the bit where the messenger finds Sabriel in Wyverly's dormitory. XD.

I sat on the stairs and cried, haha, because I thought the Dead were coming to get me. Then I didn't touch the book for ages and finally finished it. I moved onto Lirael (have to admit that I didn't really like her, although I sympathized with her a bit) and Abhorsen. I really, really love Mogget, and I thought Nix's twist to have the Dog as one of the Bright Shiners was quite interesting. Anyway, I feel like I'm rambling now...

I personally think Nix is a genius. His style of writing really drew me in, and I think there's so much potential for him to write a backstory to the Old Kingdom (sort of like Tolkein did, I suppose), because I know I would definitely buy it, and then love it a million times over. Until that day ever happens (or if it ever happens, I hasten to add), I'm stuck writing my own fanfiction, which - more notably - isn't actually going anywhere at the moment.

I'm thrilled that I found a fellow Nix-loving community, to be perfectly frank. ^__^

All hail Nix!
