100% Undeniable Proof that the 11 minute Mario 3 video is FAKE

edit: ok, so maybe it's old news, but it's news to me so the fewer "u r lame thsi r old newz" comments i get in my inbox, the better.

Did anyone actually believe it was legit to begin with? If so, they're pretty fuckin' naiive... o_0'

Why do you say that? Did you immediately debunk it the first time you saw the video? Can you point out a bunch of the giveaways?

The video looks perfectly legit, if a bit way-too-perfect. You're just being pretty fuckin' mean.

It had nothing to do with being mean, it's just having common sense. Nobody is that perfect! I saw the video for the first time and laughed that someone took the time to edit the video somehow or use some sort of cheat to accomplish it. I admit I though it was amazing... but fake nonetheless.

Eh, maybe I have more faith in crazy Japanese gamers than you do. I've seen them do stuff that shouldn't be possible, so the words 'too perfect' don't come to mind so easily.

Not that I'm denying the truth in this instance, but in general, if one thinks they're hot shit in a game, there's probably someone in Japan who could blow them away. The far-easterners are crazy determined and focused in a way that sometimes seems unhealthy.

I'm the same way. I've been competing in gaming competitions since I was like 10 years old. I know what it's like to have that zen-like focus when playing a game, aiming for perfection.

All I have to say is that I didn't believe the SMB3 video for one moment. There were several times in the game in which the person "playing" did things that just can't be done without some sort of divine intervention. The timing of some of the jumps and combo-jumps is just too perfect.

I never believed it was real. *shrug* I'm sure I'm not the only one.

And as far as the common stereotype of asians being the best at video games, that's a crock of shit. Ethenicity has nothing to do with gaming skill.

Gaming skill, no. Single-minded drive and suicidal determination, yes. The Japanese culture has developed religions and martial arts that revolve around these principles. That's not so easy to deny.

Gaming, like comics, is not yet accepted in the western hemisphere as a serious pursuit and legitimate art medium. When it is, maybe we'll see more national-level tournaments and media coverage thereof, but for now games just aren't respected enough to give birth to the kinds of players who spend every spare moment in an arcade.

I think that "single-minded drive and suicidal determination" are traits that all gamers have. At least the ones I associate with.

Comics have been accepted as legitimate art medium in the U.S. for decades. I don't know what you're talking about. lol. The reason why players don't spend every spare moment in an arcade if because of the sad, but true fact that arcades are going the way of the dodo. Home systems can pump out games of equal quality, so why would most people want to bother spending money at an arcade when they can stay at home and play games as many times as they want for free?

(Of course, these are gamers that don't relish the idea of competing head-to-head with strangers and getting that orgasmic rush when you annihilate someone in front of a crowd.)

Yeah, I'm not much of an arcade gamer myself, but the creature does exist. Arcades are still the best place to look for competition for fighting games, and often games will be released in an arcade cabinet before they reach the console.

And I don't think I really have any other points to make. Cartoons are undeniably seen as kiddie fare more in the west than the east, but I hope that changes soon enough so I can get anime without drastic and damaging censorship.

Well, there's an inherent difference between cartoons and anime. They're both created by means of animation, but that's really where the similarities stop.

I love arcades. I've always been an arcade rat, and always will be. I compete in VF4/SFA3/SC2 competitions all the time.

It's not that hard to acquire anime that is uncensored. If you're talking about anime on television that's uncensored... good luck. I think "Adult Swim" is the closest you'll ever get.

Yeah, anime on television is what I mean... outside of the Sci-Fi channel, no one will run something animated that doesn't have goofy characters doing pointless things with no coherent story to speak of. When the socially conservative denounce violence and the 'corrupting of our media', at least a few of them are still coping with the effects of growing up with Bugs Bunny and then seeing the relative bloodbath of Akira.

You're right in that they're not comparable, but unfortunately not everyone's bright enough to make the distinction.

I'd like to try and find SC2 in any arcades around here and see what it's like... playing against humans is always more fun than beating up AI.

for some reason, I find what he actually did to achieve that no less amazing, if not maybe a bit misguided. 20,000 frames is a lot of frames.

I cant believe this kid dedicated two years of his life towards this project.

But he did succeed in making it a very funny watch. I couldnt stop laughing the first time I saw it.
