| Finally found and a request... |
[23 Aug 2009|09:54am] |
Oh GOD I just found Star Wars Battlefront 2 OST rip.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HRYKMWS7
Now, I am looking for XIII (Thirteen) OST, does anyone have it? I mean the actual game rip OST, not the Thirteen Funk and Groove, but the in game music. I love the one that plays right outside Emerald Base, when we gotta get out with Carrington at Apalachians Mountains :D

| ...This song is Too Awesome not to post about.... |
[27 Jul 2009|10:09am] |
.
..I think the composer was inspired by all those old episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE that featured 'Deranged killer robots, hell-bent on taking over the human race by any means necessary'.
if you're a fan of that type of stuff, or movies like WHITE ZOMBIE, definitely take a second to give this track a listen or three.
p.s.- this Sega Genesis game is available for download on the Wii console, if you like old-school CONTRA Run-n'-Gun types of shoot 'em ups.

| Upcoming Mitsuda vocal album! |
[01 Jul 2009|02:40am] |
|
I don't know how many of you get the Hopeful Weeds e-newsletter, so I'm throwing this out there:
Coming August 26, 2009: Colours of Light -Yasunori Mitsuda Vocal Collection-
Of special note is track 3, which is from Sega's World Destruction (Sands of Destruction is the NA title). Here's the website, which contains BG music, possibly the song in question. Character designs are partially attributed to Kunihiko Tanaka, known for his character designs for the Xenoseries. I had a hunch and yes, Masato Kato is also involved, sharing credits for character creator and scenario design.

| Zombies on your lawn |
[06 May 2009|01:13pm] |
Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well :) I haven't really been around LJ much lately, but I wanted to post about my recent project in the gamemusicfans community since I know a lot of you are fans of old school vgm, and that's been one of my main sources of inspiration as a composer. I'd really love it if you guys had a chance to check it out!
I just finished up the soundtrack for a PopCap game called "Plants vs. Zombies" which I had a lot of fun with. The game itself is really funny and entertaining, it's like tower defense + RTS and a few CCG elements. The music is a mix between orchestral macabre stuff (think Castlevania or Danny Elfman) mixed with Megaman style basslines and random percussion (everything from Big Band Swing to Techno with homeade organic samples). I also volunteered to make them a theme song towards the end of production, which got turned into a wacky music video:
Here are a few other samples from the soundtrack: Uraniwa ni Zombies ga! - This is the Japanese version of the above song, I got my Dad to do the zombie vocals in it. Loonboon - Inspired by our black cat... Brainiac Maniac - This is the final boss theme, which I'm also using in the rpg I'm making as boss battle music. It was inspired by old Capcom games like the Megaman series.
Anyways, thanks for your time!

| 2 fold question |
[10 Apr 2009|11:24am] |
I created a lj game music community a little while ago. I wanted your opinion on the concept of it, which is that I post a song a day from random games. You can check it out here vgmdaily. This community has a good deal of information on music for games, So I wanted to ask what games from the Commodore 64, Apple II, MS-Dos or otherwise now obsolete systems or OS games that rarely get remakes or ported had a song or soundtrack that you still listen to.

| F-sharp minor, the key of nostalgia and looking back at things that won't last? |
[09 Apr 2009|02:06pm] |
So, I've just had a thought.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - "Lost Painting" YouTube video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-h3BG94IoBA YouTube video of my own arrangement for piano here (not that great; I should record another one): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIECblH0z_M
Chrono Trigger - "Corridors of Time" (Zeal world theme) OC Remix "Zeal Love" here: http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR01053/ YouTube video of original song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xsj5xjoLXtE
Both of these are not only such beautiful songs, but also have that feeling of a very tender sadness--a certain nostalgia or longing for something. In both cases, one could say it has to do with things that won't last--those who know Chrono Trigger know what I mean, and those who know Symphony of the Night will recognize this as one of the later themes in such a fun game that, nevertheless, close to its dramatic conclusion. And I know I can definitely feel that in the music.
And they both happen to be in the key of F-sharp minor.
Any thoughts about this? Suggestions of other similar songs? Other songs in F-sharp minor that have (or don't have) this property?

| Interview with Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II soundtrack composer |
[01 Mar 2009|01:01pm] |
Today we have Doyle W. Donehoo at microphone. This composer isn't well known to gamers because of only few released projects (America's Army, Savage 2, Sniper: Path of Vengeance, Black Stone: Magic & Steel), but we are pretty sure this situation will change with release of Relic's blockbuster Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II. Soundtrack for original game was written by Jeremy Soule and that's kinda interesting what music awaits us in its sequel. Well, let's go!
