Games Played - Gameforce: London Sunday 15th February 2009 [Feb. 22nd, 2009|10:54 am]

angusabranson
Hi,

I've been meaning to post a list of the games we play at Gameforce each month to give people an idea of what's taken place.

This month we didn't actually have any RPGs there. Mouse Guard got delayed due to the length of the Battlestar Galactica Boardgame the GM was playing in and the regular D&D group didn't make it.

So, here is what was played. An asterix means that the game was played atleast twice. Dominion should have a whole row of asterix's as there seemed to be at least one table of that from when we opened at noon to when we closed at 9.30!

Battlestar Galactica Board Game
Before the Wind
Cthulhu 500
Dominion*
El Grande
Guillotine
Hollywood Blockbuster
Incan Gold*
Kuhhandel
Lost Cities Board Game
Oregon
Pandemic
Pick Picknic
Puerto Rico
Quo Vaid
Race For The Galaxy*
Stock Broker
Ticket to Ride
Titan
Vinci
Wasabi*
Winners Circle

There are probably a few I managed to miss as well. If anyone can think of them please let me know and I'll ammend the list.

It's that time of month again! :)

Last month we hit 50 people and had a whole variety of games. This month the pub should have some new - larger - tables in for us upstairs so hopefully we won;t need to overspill into the downstairs bar :)

Amongst the multitude of board games last month (with Battlestar Galactica proving very popular with two tables running that at the same time) we also had two D&D RPG games going on and we should also have a Mouse Guard RPG joining the fun this week.

Anyway... the details...

New Players [Aug. 18th, 2008|10:47 am]

So, the Mrs and I are coming down to Walthamstow, north-east London to study.

We're both into RPGs, LARPing, board games and CCGs and plan to drop in on Gameforce at the end of Sept but are also interested in meeting gamer folks generally.

I personally would like to be able to get together a LARP group, preferably running Fading Suns or Call of Cthulhu live, although I do have my beady eye on Legend of the Five Rings...

Gamesforce Fun! [Jul. 20th, 2008|10:29 pm]

angusabranson
(cross-posted in </a></b></a>[info]leisuregames and </a></b></a>[info]gaming_addicts)

Sean, David and I all attended </a></b></a>[info]gameforce this afternoon - a monthly games club I organise in Central London (just off Oxford Street  - for more info check out our Live Journal Community and feel free to pop along if you ever have the day free and are in/near London!).

The pub is really nice and also does great food (which is a reason to go to it with the added bonus of loads of gaming! :p).

Anyway, David ran a game of Arkham Horror for a bunch of the guys and gals - and they managed to win!

Sean played several games of Sumo, playtested the very interesting 'Marpa's Tower' - a new game by Mark Hypolite which has elements of Carcassone and Backgammon in, and joined in on a bit of Arkham Horror action.

I played a game of Guillotine before joining the Marpa's Tower playtest (this is the second time I played the game - the first was the 2-player version with Mark, this afternoon we tried it with four-players and everyone enjoyed it plus Mark got some good feedback including a very good suggestion from Keith over one of the mechanics about Villager movement and attack which I think will probably be adopted. After Marpa's Tower I played Ticket to Ride (I *rule* Ticket to Ride - rarely have I been beaten, and yes that is an open challenge :p) and then, after very briefly making a cameo appearence in the closing stages of the Arkham Horror game, I joined in the No Thanks game.

It was a great afternoon and it's a shame that I'm going to be missing the August event (I'll be over in Indianapolis for US GenCon doubling up as a Cubicle 7 and Leisure Games not-so-undercover agent :p) but I know David will certainyl be there! I'll be returning in September though for that thrashing at Ticket to Ride I'm sure will be waiting for me now :p

Best wishes,

Angus

Games Played: Gameforce 20th July 2008 [Jul. 20th, 2008|09:56 pm]

angusabranson
Hi folks,

Thanks to everyone who came along to the club this afternoon. It was great seeing everyone and I hope everyone had fun playing their respective games?

I’ve decided to try and post a list each month of the games that were played so people who view the Live Journal Community/Facebook Group/Mailing List get a better idea of what goes down each month.

I hope we can start getting a few more RPGs going on a regular basis too as I know we had atleast 2 or 3 people down today looking for games – two of whom joined in other games and the third who went away with email addresses and will come back in the next month or two.

If there is a RPG you’d like to run please let the list know and hopefully we can organise atleast a minimum amount of people in advance so the game goes ahead and others can join in on the day if there’s space. I also believe the D&D Living Greyhawk games will be rejoining us very shortly which will also open up an avenue for RPGers to join.

Anyway, on with todays list of games.

The following were played this afternoon at Gameforce: London

Race for the Galaxy (x3)

Mare Nostrum

Sumo (x4)

Powergrid

Mwahahahahaha

Guillotine

No Thanks

Ticket to Ride

Marpa’s Tower

Arkham Horror

Der Ausreisser

Pickomino

This months prizes were: Traders of Carthage by Z-Man Games (Board Game) and the Basic Roleplaying Core Rulebook by Chaosium (RPG).

Next meeting is on Sunday 17th August. I won’t be there (I’m off to GenCon in Indianapolis checking things out for Leisure Games and selling games for Cubicle 7 Entertainment!) but David King will be looking after the prize draw and money collections.

Hope everyone has fun and hope to see you soon!

Next time I'm bringing Rage, and Citadels. Also, I'm bringing along Arkham Horror so that David can teach me and Fabio how to play. He's going to give us a half hour-ish demo; so... if like me you don't know the game, here is a good chance to learn it from someone who does.

Thanks to eveyone who turned up. It was my first of many visits.... I hope. Thanks to the guy who invited me over to play Pandemic, I would have loved a go but my brain was fried by then, sorry I had to turn the offer down. Thanks also to the nice people I met, who put up with me, and kept me gaming for most of the afternoon. I had my first go at Colleretto, Take 6 and Uno. I liked all of them. I also witnessed a long inuendo strewn but informative game of Bang. Perhaps we will get round to pandemic next time? I'll also bring Hick Hack again in case anyone liked it today, and one of the 'no one liked it' games from my cupboard.

Angus, I haven't forgotten that I owe you a pound for Gameforce, and some money for drinks. I'll sort that out on Tuesday.

See you all next time.

Sean (one of the 'other ones' from Leisure Games).

Hi guys and gals,

I've been thinking about Special Guests for DM08 and was wondering if you had anyone you'd like to see come over for the show?

I have my own shortlist but depending on what the desires are elsewhere I might swap one of my list out in favour of another choice.

Take care,
