Game Development Openings - Surreal Software
Surreal Software, the studio which brought you Drakan and the Suffering, has openings in our Seattle studio!  Founded in 1995, Surreal Software employs over 100 leading designers, artists and programmers whose passion and ingenuity takes gaming to new heights.

Over the last 12 years, Surreal has managed to keep an insanely high retention rate – nothing to sneeze at in this highly-mobile industry. Maybe it's the competitive salaries and benefits (medical/dental/vision, health club, profit sharing and company matched 401(k) plan)? Nah, lots of companies can say that. Perhaps it's the massage therapist every Wednesday and, or free dinners for those hard-working souls burning the evening oil? Or the Mariners games, Halloween parties, or go-kart racing? Could be our sweet waterfront offices in Seattle, right on Elliott Bay – heck you could even take a kayak to work!

Our bet goes on the simple fact that people love making great games – really fun games – games that they can take pride in showing off to their friends. That's what we do here at Surreal.

Sound like something you want to be a part of? Then check out our current openings at www.surreal.com. You just might have what it takes to be on the Surreal team.

Current openings include:

Associate Gameplay Programmer
Audio Game Programmer
Concept Artist
FX Artist
Game Testers
Lead Content Designer
Lead Programmer
Project Creative Director
Sr. Environment Artist
Systems Engineer

Sounds like you have a great thing going. Best of luck filling positions with like-minded folks. :)

I'm happy at my team at MS, but I know someone who would definitely be interested in applying for one of the test positions (he worked with us on our last project). I notice that there's no page on the Surreal site for the position. Should I tell him to just email his resume regardless with 'Game Test Engineer' in the subject line?

Y'know, things like this are making me think harder about moving to Seattle...

Seattle has an absurdly high density of talented devs. I have no idea wtf is going on with that . . .

Certainly sounds like it has a lot more professional opportunities than where I am currently (Christchurch, New Zealand) - not that that's difficult to achieve. I know a couple of people from here who've gone on to better things elsewhere, but there's not enough critical mass to make an industry out of locally.

Heh. Oddly, two of the best devs I've ever worked with were at Sidhe in Wellington. One's still there.
Not much outside of Sidhe though I gather . . .

Quite a lot of work in Australia by comparison (I'm in Sydney).
