Mental Health
Are there mental heath clinics for people with low income? Google doesn't seem to give me any answers. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I have also called the health dept. and they have nothing as well.

What kind of services were you looking for? Therapy? A place where someone could check in and get treatment? I work for the st Francis house so we have a list of places that we rec for the people that come in. The majority of them are low income or unemployed and have no insurance. If you give me a little more detail, I can check on some places for you that might be what you're lookin for

There is some help, but they are county and/or state funded, and those funds are tighter than ever due to recession. Meridian Healthcare and Shands Vista are the two places you should contact. Good luck.

Meridian is the place to go for doctors and meds, although dealing with them can be a bitch. (I know from experience. I've been going there on and off for seven years.) Their number is 352-374-5600. Ask for Medical Services (their outpatient department).

If you want therapy, the Crisis Center at the health department is free. Their number is 352-264-6789.

Like the others have said, Meridian would be a good place to start. They should be able to give you referrals to more suitable places if they're not what you're looking for.

Meridian is not currently offering free/reduced services due to loss of funding. An initial out-patient medication-needed type visit is between $250-$275, with follow ups being $90-$125.

Try calling the United Way referral line, they may know of any private practice docs taking in low-income/no insurance patients in the community.

Best of luck to you.

Worse case scenario you can make an attempt to apply for medicaid. All they can do is turn you down - it won't have any other negative effect.

www.myflorida.com is the gateway to the dept. of children and families page where you can submit the application online.

Good luck. :/

the united way has a non-emergency health and human services help line, and they have access to a lot of information about mental health clinics. I would give them a call, the number is 211.
