Hoy se cumplen dos años del debut blanco de Gago

Un 7 de enero del 2007 Fernando Gago debutó con la camiseta del Real Madrid. El mediocentro argentino fichado de Boca Juniors por 18 millones de euros (fichaje más caro del Madrid en el mercado de invierno de esa temporada: Higuaín costó 12 millones y Marcelo seis) se puso por primera vez la elástica madridista en Riazor en un partido en el que el Madrid perdió ante el Deportivo por 2-0. Gago tuvo ese día una mediocre actuación, manteniendo la misma tónica de todo el equipo entrenado aquel año por Capello.
En aquella primera temporada Pintita tuvo que ganarse el puesto ante Emerson y Diarra y jugó sólo 13 de las 21 jornadas que restaban en Liga. Nadie dudaba de su calidad, pero tenía el handicap de su físico limitado, que no daba el empaque y la fuerza que Capello quería para su medular.
Ya es un fijo.
En la pasada temporada y con Schuster en el banquillo Gago comenzó perdiendo la batalla ante Diarra en el mediocentro del Madrid, pero desde que el malí se marchara a la Copa África Gago se hizo con la titularidad. Y la mantuvo hasta el mes de junio jugando 31 partidos de los que 21 fueron como titular. Creció como jugador, adquirió corpulencia y su juego se convirtió fundamental para el técnico alemán por lo que robaba y por lo que creaba.
En esta temporada, con Schuster al inicio y con Juande desde hace casi un mes, Gago sigue siendo indiscutible. Ha jugado de titular los 11 partidos de Liga e incluso ha marcado un gol, su primero desde que es jugador del Madrid: ante el Sevilla y de cabeza.

The Argentine midfielder signed from Boca Juniors for 18 million Euros (most expensive signing by Madrid in the winter transfer window of this season: Higuaín cost 12 millions and Marcelo six) wore the jersey the first time at Riazor in a match which Madrid lost against Deportivo 2-0. This day Gago played mediacore, presenting the same attitude as the whole team during this year with Capello.
In this first season Pintita had to win the position on the team against Emerson and Diarra and just played 13 from the 21 matches, which remained in the league. Nobody doubted his quality, but he had the handicap of his limited physic and the missing strength, which Capello wanted for his midfield.
Yet he's a signing.
In the last season and with Schuster on the bench Gago started with a defeat against Diarra in the midfield of Mdrid, but since the Mali went to the African Cup Gago got into the starting eleven. And he kept it until June, playing 31 matches and started 21 of them. He grew as a player, acquired corpulence and his play changed fundamentally for the German manager.
This season, with Schuster at the beginning and Juande since almost a months, Gago continues starting. He played the 11 league matches as a started and scored one goal, his first since he plays for Real Madrid: a header against Sevilla.
