Jawset size?
So, I really would rather use a taxidermy jawset for my current fursuit mask, as opposed to sculpting every tooth by hand and making latex/rubber gums and setting them in... especially because I fail miserably at sculpting with clay.

Looking through the jawset thingers, I realised that none of them tell you how big they are. They just say the price, weight, and animal. /:

I was thinking about getting a wolf set, but I don't know, the jaw might be too big for that. But I don't want to get a black bear and get them WAY too big for the mask.

The upper jaw is about 4 inches, the lower jaw about 3.75.

Yeah, if someone could, you know, help me find out jaw sizes, that would be wonderful. and just so you know, I'm okay with clipping them with wire cutters if they're too long. I just want a rough estimate.

I'm of no help with your question, I'm sorry, but I think you're hading for trouble there...

Are you saying the mask is already built? Because it's much more difficuult (or even impossible, specially without seeing it and buying it online) to find a jawset that will fit in your existing mouth than to build a suit around a jawset... If it's too long no problem but what if the angle is too wide? What if the teeth are too long and you can't close the mouth anymore?

That's why it's easier to make your teeth yourself : it's because you can custom them to fit your needs.

Otherwise you have to work around the existing jawset, I'm not sure you could mamange to just stick it in there...
You could! By all means you could, because what if by mere coincidence you built your muzzle exactly the right shape and width, but your chances are slim if you ask me...

But I guess it depends on just how ready you are to modify your existing muzzle to have it fit the jawset.

I can modify the muzzle-it's not furred and painted yet or anything, it's still the foam base. :3;

And it's built with similar angles to a real wolf's profile/mouth, so it should work, though if it doesn't, then it doesn't-I could use it as a reference if I absolutely can't use it.

I didn't think about that though, it's a good point.

I probably wouldn't have thought about it either if BeetleCat hadn't mentioned something like that not too long ago. :p

But you seem like you have the right attitude towards the idea, should it not fit and be really too far to just modify the muzzle, then at least it'll be an awesome reference. :) I was just worried you'd spend some good money on it and then be disapointed...

Where were you planning on getting your jawset? Because CarneFx here usually mentions the dimensions and I'm pretty sure if you asked for more measurements she'd give them to you. She used to have a wolf jawset, I suggest you ask her about it, she probably still has the cast, I bet she could make one for you. (I keep saying "her" but in all honesty I don't know, it could be a "he"... I just assumed a "she" because of the hands in the pictures that looked feminin to me)

I was looking on the links at the community's bio, but s/he looks like a good source, too-the German Shepherd one is actually really good looking, and it's the same width as my jaws. :3 Though I'll have to ask about the wolf set.

Uhhh, would you happen to know their e-mail? -doesn't have an eBay account to ask-

Oh well there's a "contact us" button on their website, I'm sure you can find what you need there. :)
