Fatsuit
I took a look through memories for something that would answer my question, but I didn't see anything off-hand. So, I've had an idea for a fursuit in the works for a while. Been working on it when I've got a few spare hours, few extra bucks, and the desire to make animal costumes. One of the big problems I've had in the planning phases has been giving the suit the proper bodytype. Now, I'm a guy of a pretty average build. The character in question is a chubby girl. ( Drawings of girl behind cut )What I've seen on other people's suits is that the layered foam on the undersuit tends to work well for denser materials like muscle and structure, and using 'pillows' of polyfil or shredded foam built into the suit itself works great for making characters big and soft looking. The big difference I've noticed is how each material moves with the suit. The 'padded divesuit' method gives the illusion of something moving under the skin, whereas the 'padded fursuit' method looks more like the character is carrying some extra pounds. So, I come to you, oh great and knowledgeable fursuit list. How the heck do I make an under structure that doesn't make her look sculpted or like a blimp? Or am I missing the point entirely and it's all about how it's shaped, not what it's made of and where it goes in the suit? Help me fursuit mailing list, you're my only hope. Current Mood: confused |

Keep up the efforts, or Stick with what I've got? ( backstory. Can't find more fur )I have a few options now. I can call the bodysuit a loss and just have the person working on it send it back to me, see if maybe I can rework to fur to at least be a nice looking partial... Or I can buy a different kind of fur and rip all the fur off my head (it's glued on), paws, and tail and refur them to match Or I can maybe buy a different type of fur that's kind of close-ish and see if I can airbrush-blend them in Are any attempts to salvage the body feasible, or should I avoid risking damaging my head/paws or mismatching badly and just be satisfied with a partial at this point? |

Dragon!
Hello all!
This is my first post and first suit. I hope that this belongs here since it's not really all that "furry". This is the first time that I've worn everything together and I'm really proud of it! I'd love some critique and/or redlining so that I can fix basic shapes and whatnot before I start detailing.

Getting a Ript physique The Ript Fusion T-shirt is a support shirt that shapes a man's body so that it looks like he has a better physique than he does. It also works like UnderArmor, wicking away moisture. This would be a good option for guys who would rather have a better frame for their fursuits than nature provides. http://www.riptfusion.com/rip-t-fusion.html |

silicone rubber
im not sure if this would work, but is it possible to make footsoles out of silicone rubber? ive seen shoe soles made from it before. i would like to make a mold and then add colour pigments to seperate the pads from the rest of the soles.. id also like the rubber to be clear for experimental resons im not going in to right now.. i also dont know how much it would be but money is no object right now. if you have experiance with clear silicone rubber, could you please direct me to a good tutorial or walk me threw what i will need n how i would need to go about it cos ive been serching round a while now but its confusing the hell out of me. or mabe point me in the direction of a more suitable material? thanks for reading. |

Help! Need rust/reddish brown fur.
For my new suit, I need a reddish brown fur that works with DF long pile white and ivoryI ordered tons of samples from DF, PF and Mendels, but was unlucky finding any suitable fur. But I see this color used alot (especially foxes) so maybe someone can help me out there! Here's the ref for my character, the brown color is approximate, important is that the pile height and color works together with white and ivory. (click to enlarge) Thanks in advance for helping me out! |

Non airbrushed stripes
Alright, I'm working on making a skunk tail for my boyfriend for his birthday, and I was wondering. I keep hearing about how people hand sew on markings and stripes and I look and they look absolutely perfect! The think is, how to you make it look so prefect? Do you have down the area where the marking is going to go? Do you just sew it on top of the fur? Do you part the fur where the spot is going to go? Ect... :3 |

Quadsuit wolf V2 with jointed arm stilts by the way this looks a lot better on the duct tape dummy as the guy has a long torso compared to my sister and longer legs so the front legs will not look as long. NFT fur was used over the joint as its stretches, well worth the $10 a square foot on sale. i have figured out an even better way to hinge the legs now as this version means the leg technically got 6 inches longer when the joint bends but the customer was not charged extra for this prototype and it still looks okay, the new version will debute this fall/winter when i finish the horse quadsuit. i wish i had better photos BUT it was almost dark out and we had to wait so long because the weather at this hour was just barely good enough to do this since its fricken hot here in the summer. ( Pictures of the finished suit )i think i should use a longer spring for the jaw as i think it would look better more open...what do you think? i mean in the video half the time you could hardly tell it has a jaw. oh i almost forgot, there is a fan in the forhead that circulates the air in front of ones face and you can turn it on and change the batteries by lifing a flat between the ears, and there is a fan in the false elbow of the arm stilts that again you lift a flap of fur and you can change the batteries and turn it on EDIT: oh and speaking fo quadsuits, i had a customer back out on me for the sabertooth quad and i need a new customer! i need some one close to 5'11" with thin legs and a generally fit build who is willing to pay the remaining $2000 and send me shoes and a helmet so i can make at least that part a custom fit, read more here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2494474/#cid:18300776 |

Glowing eyes
Just some quick questions - I'm on my 15 min break and it's been haunting me: I remember someone showing those light up eyes from VanDyke's taxidermy shop - I've used glass eyes before, in my Anubis/Nebri head, but they were 36mm just a good size (in my opinion). These appear to be max of 20 or 22 (I forgot now). Is this size ok in a fursuit head (not toony... or trying not to be toony)? I also remember people requesting specific sizes/colors/etc from Van Dyke's and such that they don't normally offer, but how much would a custom size be? Anyone know/has asked for a custom size before? Biggest question: Has anyone used these specific eyes before? I'm curious if the battery pack is heavy and how long the wiring is between the eyes and batt pack. I figured I could run the wires up and over the wearer's head from the eyes, and make a sort of "pocket" in the back of the head's neck to hold it (and not just let it hang and move about/whack the wearer if they move quickly). Or would it be too heavy and pull on the front of the head/lift the front off kilter from it's weight? Or would the wires even reach back there? I'm kinda mechanically not-inclined in the sense of wiring and such... so I'm a bit of a dunce on how that would work. FOr $36, I don't know if I would attempt it without having some use for it somewhere else if it doesn't work out... So I'd rather ask a silly question then waste time/money also one last thingy: how hard is it to trim down the taxidermy jawsets? Mainly curiosity than anything else Current Mood: rushed |

Bouncy Ball Eyes Questions
I'm making bouncy ball eyes and I thought instead of painting the backs I'd do the coloring on paper. I'm much better with colored pencils than paint. My theory was nice, that I'd hot glue the paper circles to the backs of the eyes to get the proper 'seal' so that they can be seen from all angles. At first it worked perfect, then sadly, it peeled right up, no more seal, so the iris only shows from straight on. I tried to glue it a second time and that created bubbles. Has anyone else made bouncy-ball eyes on paper instead of painting the balls themselves? If so, how'd you do it? I shudder to think of having to paint, but if I do, what's the best paint to use? And what's the best way to seal this stuff whatever I use, so paint/paper won't get damaged? Current Mood: thoughtful |
