| Furry Art Pile is now Closed |
[Aug. 31st, 2008|10:03 pm] |
Hi Everyone,
As of September 1st, 2008, FurryArtPile.com is closed. All files that were uploaded, modified and created have been deleted. All information that has been submitted to the website has been removed.
There were some offers from several groups to take over FAP, but many lacked the financial capacity, technical ability and the direction I felt was correct for the site. Instead, I am working on a generalized and open-source version of FAP for people to create their own communities.
Thank you for making FAP wonderful,
Dylan |

| Goodbye, Furry Art Pile |
[Aug. 27th, 2008|11:51 pm] |
|
FAP started two years ago to satisfy an itch, to be a better art website. For furries. In this time, FAP grew into a very fun project. I developed solutions to very difficult technical problems, created new user interfaces, and learned a lot about maintaining a social website. Two years later, this isn't fun for me anymore. I spend too much time everyday developing new features and optimizing the code to perfection; I never have time for my other projects. (Trust me, they're awesome projects). So, I'm closing FAP. Thank you for using FAP, Dylan PS: FAP will continue to host files until the end of the month (when the donations run out). Artists can download their galleries by using this tool: artists.php Connoisseurs can download their favourites by using this tool: connoisseurs.php |

| New Feature: FAP Development Fund |
[Jul. 9th, 2008|11:49 pm] |
FAP is always trying to be a better site for you--and now you can tell us how.
Submit your best ideas for new features that you think will make FAP easier to use, prettier or more fun.
If you see a feature you like, donate through Amazon.com's Honor System to fund a feature. Features that receive 100% funding will be added to FAP.
All donations will be used to offset the cost of hosting FAP (about $200 each month).

| Comments Down, 13:00 PST - 19:30 PST |
[Jun. 28th, 2008|07:44 pm] |
I had made a few query optimizations this weekend to improve database update speed and accidentally forgot to take out my debugger.
This prevented comments on works from being added between 13:00PST and 19:30PST.
This bug has been resolved. I'm very sorry for the disruption in service. |

| Server Move |
[Mar. 21st, 2008|11:24 pm] |
FurryArtPile.com is moving servers. This move will begin Friday, March 21st, at 9PM PDT, and is expected to last up to 12 hours, until Saturday, March 22nd, 9AM PDT.
When the move is complete FAP will be able to offer much speedier access and service. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience with this move.
Thanks again for using FAP~ |

| Server Outage |
[Feb. 26th, 2008|10:24 am] |
At about 6am this morning our works database server went down.
The culprit? A poorly optimized tag query was overloading the server.
The function has been rewritten and the works server is back online. |

| Site sluggishness resolved |
[Nov. 24th, 2007|10:38 pm] |
FAP has experience a sudden doubling of visitors in the last few days, slowing the site down considerably.
We were able to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem and have implemented a temporary fix.
Sorry about today's sluggishness; things should return to their usual peppy speediness now that the fix is in place. |

| Server Maintenance at 7am, Friday |
[Aug. 2nd, 2007|05:37 pm] |
Tomorrow morning we will be upgrading the controller (head-unit) for one of our filers that has been causing problems lately.
This upgrade will take place tomorrow, at 7am PDT Friday, August 3, 2007. It should only take about 30 minutes to swap in the new head-unit.
We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, but we’re confident this will greatly improve speed and stability for FAP users. |

| New Feature: Quick Share |
[Jul. 4th, 2007|02:42 pm] |
Big thanks to everyone for the positive feedback on the new Embedded FAP tool. With your suggestions, I've added a new feature that will make sharing works that much easier:

Just click the share button on any works' page, and a small window will pop up, letting you cross post to LiveJournal, del.icio.us or anywhere else with the embed code. |

| New Feature: Embedded FAP Updated! |
[Jun. 29th, 2007|08:21 pm] |
FAP members can now show off their latest works and galleries in their personal websites, blogs and even MySpace with the new Embedded FAP.
The thumbnails button to the right of the FAP logo brings up a selection of works from your gallery.
Embedded FAP codes are available on the work's page, under the statistics. Just copy and paste.
Update: There has been a lot of positive feedback on the new embedded FAP player. I've added a new Similarity button that finds similar works and an information button that takes you directly to the works' page. Coming next is pagination and the ability to view larger works inside the player. |

| Policy discussion: what needs the mature tag? |
[Jun. 4th, 2007|07:58 pm] |
The mature tag should be applied to any work containing:- Nudity: Any and all nude works need to be tagged as mature including artistic nudes.
- Drugs: This includes legal drugs like alcohol and cigarettes as well as illegal drugs.
- Extreme violence: Blood sports, genocide, guro and gore.
- Adult themes: These are things you wouldn't want your mother to catch you doing.
A few FAP members have suggested that the current mature tag limits are too strict and should be revised.
So, how would you guys change it? Should FAP allow artistic nudes without the mature tag? |

| Calling all developers |
[May. 25th, 2007|04:45 pm] |
It's incomplete, but I thought I would announce it anyway. fAPI gives developers access to raw XML data feeds direct from FAP for use in their own application development. Eventually, I'd like to open it up even more and allow for developers to create their own FAP clients for uploading works and such.
fAPI
On a side note, you can now search by favourites with the new favby* powertag. Complete documentation on all the new powertags and search operators is available in the help section. |
